Title: Question on Self Control

User: Neil LA Date: 2007-04-20 22:55:41

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

All Glories to Swami Gaurangapada!

All Glories to the Guru Parampara!

All Glories to the Vaishnava Devotees!

Please accept my humble obeisences!

Please forgive me for asking so many questions. I am a lost soul swimming in an ocean of ignorance and I depend on the kindness of merciful Sri Guru to save me from drowning.

I've been having a very difficult time around food. I am very compulsive about eating junkfood, I find it difficult to stop myself. Everyday no matter how many resolutions I make to eat better and avoid sweets or salty snacks I find myself eating things I know are not good for me. And instead of just having one small taste I will have several large servings until I find myself feeling ill and feeling bad that once again I have overeaten. I find it difficult to have balance.

I know that the ideal would be to cook food every day and offer it to the Lord and eat his remnants, but I find it difficult to cook, mostly because of laziness, I'm sure. So I'll order a pizza and again instead of offering it and then eating a moderate amount, I will sit down and eat the entire thing.

I guess my question is, How can I conquer my gluttony that makes me overeat and how can I conquer my laziness that prevents me from getting any exercise?

I'm afraid I'm sounding like a spoiled and indulgent American. Please forgive me if I have caused offence, but I appreciate any insight you might be able to give.

Your humble and unworthy servant,

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Guru Parampara! Pranams. The only way would be to shirk away your laziness and start cooking some nice bhoga atleast once a day and offering it to the Lord and accepting the prasadam. Gluttony can be conquered by eating only prasadam. Regarding exercise, you can try to go out on a japa chanting walk either in the morning or evening or do some basic pranayama (anuloma viloma, kaplalbhati and deep breathing) and asanas (like Surya Namaskar, Vajrasana etc.) along with Nityananda Gauranga Mantra Meditation within.

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Thank you for you answer, dearest Swami Gaurangapada.

You're absolutely right. I will try my best to cook some healthy bhoga to offer at least once a day and try to go on a japa walk in the mornings.

Pranams at your lotus feet
