Title: Shri Navadvipa Mahatmya chapter 6

User: Nitaipada_Maharaja†† Date: 2006-07-16 19:28:57

Nityananda!Gauranga!Hare Krishna!All glories to Shrila Prabhupada and all Vaishnavas.Please accept my humble obeisances and blessings.I pray that this meets you well and in the service/mercy of Shri Guru and Shri Gauranga.

My Dearest Shrila Gaurangapada;

In the Sixth Chapter of Shri Navadvipa Mahatmya entitled "Shri Ganganagara, Prthu-kunda, Simantadvipa, Saradanga, Visrama-sthana it is stated:

"On the Phalguna Purnima, one who fasts, takes bath in the Ganges here, and worships Gauranga will cross over the material ocean along with his ancestors.Along with one thousand ancestors, he attains Goloka after death no matter where he dies."

I am confused over this statement, not that I doubt what Shri Nityananda Prabhuji is stating, but my confusion is this.When one dies, material nature and Yamaraja decide the fate of the individual spirit soul.According to this statement by Shri Nityananda, if the devotee fasts, takes bath in the Ganges and worships Shri Gauranga on Phalguna Purnima that he is liberated along with 1000 of his ancestors.How does this happen is one's ancestors are reincarnated within the 8.4 million species of life in the material manifestation?

Your eternal servant;

Nitaipada

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Such a soul attains Goloka not just liberation along with his 1000 forefathers and the best thing is he or she does not have to die in the Dhaam to get this benediction...yatha tatha mari...such a person can die anywhere and everywhere but will certainly attain Goloka if he chants and worships Gauranga in Ganganagara in Mayapura on the Gaura Purnima tithi. This place has disappeared now but it is quite close to Chaitanya Math.

sahasra purusha purva gana sange kari;

shri goloka prapta haya yatha taha mari.

Oh sorry, forgot to answer your main question. The answer is very simple. In whatever species his or her 1000 ancestors are, when they die they do directly to Goloka from that species itself. No need to take a human birth even. :victory:

There are alot of things stated in scriptures that promise the result of going to Goloka if you do this or that.

What is the difference between chanting and doing these kinds of things? What different result is from chanting that is not attained by doing such other things?

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! One attains the same results by chanting Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna i.e. Goloka. The other 4 limbs of bhakti help to make our chanting more qualitative and meditative.

What confuses me about this, is why if we can attain Goloka in one day by doing those things, do we instead use the method whereby we must chant for many many hours and even then because of all the offenses that are considered, may not even attain Goloka?

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! We chant the Lord's Holy Names daily because it is the order of the Lord to us which is even a higher thing then going to Goloka.

So why does he instruct us to do that? Why does he want us to do it this hard way?

Also if it is possible to go to Goloka the way described in Navadwipa Mahatmya here, then why does it say also about chanting "there is no other way"

I am getting very confused I am afraid

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Because chanting His Holy Names is very pleasing to Him so He wants us to do it daily for His enjoyment. It is not simply our going to Goloka which is important but His pleasure.

Besides in Shri Navadvipa Dhama Mahatmya it is said that one who goes to Ganaganagara and worships Him on His birthday by chanting His Holy Names will go to Goloka so again chanting is a must if one wants to go to Goloka in any case.

I know it is not just us going to Goloka that is important, but what surprises me is that the Lord gets pleasure from his parts and parcels suffering in the material world?

I can understand that very advanced associates of his such as Bhaktivinode etc, might chant for this reason, but is there anywhere the Lord himself has stated that that it is what he wants of all his parts and parcels, or is doing that simply somehing that those advanced souls who are already eternal associates of the Lord do and we cant possibly hope to emulate until we ourselves have also become eternal associates of the Lord?

And how can we become eternal associates of the Lord unless we go to Goloka first?

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! No, the Lord does not get pleasure from the suffering of His part and parcel souls. The Lord feels more sorrow than the souls themselves when He sees that they have voluntarily chosen to suffer in the material word due to their minute independence instead of coming to the spiritual world. He gets pleasure only when the souls chant and sing His Holy Names.

Is there anywhere the Lord himself has stated that that it is what he wants of all his parts and parcels?

Yes, please read this thread: "http://www.gaurangapada.org/08-chp-daily-chanting-64-rounds-100-000-holy-names/1671-01-chaitanya-bhagavata.html".

And how can we become eternal associates of the Lord unless we go to Goloka first?

By chanting the glories of Lord Gauranga Krishna's Holy Names, Qualities, Pastimes and Abodes now, we can become His eternal associate in Goloka. We have to do the preparation here to go there.
