Question by Amiya Gauranga dasi

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shrila Gurudeva. I was reading the biography of Shrila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakura and below is a part of a speach that he gave on Guru/his Gurudeva. It really confused me and I couldnít understand the purport of it at all, He spoke of the guruís vision of seeing his guru everywhere: More Ľ: ""

ďIt is my Gurudeva who is graciously present in all these different forms. If he is not graciously present in all these different forms who would then preserve me? Those whom my Gurudeva has made his own are my saviors. The order of the gurus who have in their nature the protecting power of the Divinity, are always present in different forms and figures to bestow their mercy on me. All of them are specific manifestations of Shri Guru who confers spiritual knowledge Ö The transcendental reflections, which are also of the nature of supporters, are the worship of the Divinity, which appear in the different planes of cognitive existences, are my Gurudeva in His different forms. He who is constantly showing us how to serve Godhead throughout life, is no other than our Shri Gurudeva. Shri Gurudeva is present in every object as the supporting principle. He is graciously present in every object.Ē

Please could you elaborate and explain what the Acarya is saying here. I feel that of all the Acaryas Shrila Bhakti: "http:///" Siddhanta Saraswati Thakuraís words are very erudite and hardest to understand. Jaya Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami!

Answer by Swami: "http:///" Gaurangapada:

Krishna: "http:///"]Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare [URL="http:///"! He is feeling that every single person including his disciples, godbrothers, general people etc. who have genuinely come to him for spiritual shelter, guidance, support and help in his mission, inspired and encouraged him etc. were sent to him by the direct arrangement and the causeless mercy of his Gurudeva so that he could follow the orders of his Gurudeva of preaching the Holy Names. He wants to tells us that when Shri Guru and the Acharyas give us an instruction, it is Shri Guru and the Acharyas only who give us the capability and resources to implement that orderÖtomara karuna sara. He does not literally mean that the Guru is omnipresent like the Lord (as the Guru can never be) but he means that the Guru requests the Lord to help his disciple and the omnipotent Lord seated in everyoneís heart sends people to support the preaching of that disciple. So even though the supporters are sent by the Lord, Shri Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada is seeing them as a manifestation of his Guruís mercy and he is seeing his Guruís mercy in them because the Lord has inspired them to come originally because of the request and petition of his Gurudeva. You are right, we need to have a Guru ourselves to properly understand the words of our great Acharyas like Shri Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada.
