Title: Recharching the bhakti batteries

User: Damodara Svarupa dasa††††† Date: 2006-07-28 05:38:21

Nityananda, Gauranga, Hare Krishna.

All glories to our beloved parampara. All glories to our Gurudev.

All glories to all Vaishnavas. Please accept my humble obeisances.

My dearest Swamiji Gaurangapada,

Life is demanding so many things (like being a good husband, father,

a good employee, ...) and one is working way too hard to accomplish

all of this, even to the point one is desperately trying to make time

to do at least all the rounds, one gets the feeling of having become

a fallen devotee, almost like it is described by Nitaipada Maharaja.

The faith still is there, that's not the problem. But the bhakti

batteries seem to be as good as empty, though. Even trying to read

some of the CB, HC or BG doesn't recharge the batteries as they should

do. Time for sadhu sangha also has become scarce, due to the heavy

ITS-workload (Need to study hard for a next project).

What is the best way to recharge the batteries? I can't just drop the

project. So there has to be another way to get things back to the way it

should be. I've humbly prayed Their Lordships to get me out of this

choking situation...

Could You or Nitaipada Maharaja give me some sound advice on this?

Yours in the service of the Holy Names of Nityananda, Gauranga and

Hare Krishna,

Damodara Svarupa dasa.

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Guru Parampara! Pranams! :pranams: and Blessings! :bless: Dear Damodara Svarupa dasa, I can understand your problem. Software work is never-ending as softwares keep on getting updated and one has keep on learning more and more to prevent oneself from getting outdated. In this process, the life of thepeople passes like a flash of lightning without giving them much time to even think of saving the soul.

When reading etc. does not work, I would recommend viewing one spiritual video or hearing one audio daily, trying to memorize one nice verse daily and trying to loudly sing some kirtana daily with a pair of karatals if possible. Spiritual videos are the most intense form of hearing as we can vividly remember the scenes which we view in the videos throughout the day and it creates a deep spiritual impression on our minds and hearts. I will try to upload more videos in the next few days.

According to our Seventh Goswami Shrila Saccidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura, kirtana (singing) of the Holy Names and Vaishnavas songs along with our family or alone or with devotees while just clapping or while playing karatals and mridanga is a very powerful method to constantly rejuvenate and nourish our taste in the Holy Names...sarvendriya sphurti haya ananda nartana...

I hope this helps.

Shri Shril Guru Gauranga Jayatah!

Dear Shrila Gaurangapada Maharajji!

Please accept my dandavat pranams!

I would like to reiterate what prabhuji had said. Recharging 'bhakti' batteries is not so easy. Though I am not a software engineer, I am a single mom battling health problems, new job, small baby and finances as well as looking after old parents. I try to fulfil my sankalpa of 'daily japa' of at least 4-8 rounds if 16 is not possible.

I also try to EVERYDAY without fail try to do kirtana for my benefit as well as the benefit of the family. I also have a little altar at work besides my computer. I sometimes chant my gayatri at work! Rest of the time I forget.

However, when I try to 'FIT' these things in a schedule they feel like just lip service and 'shabda'. My heart is not into them.

Samsara feels like a davanala and sometimes only going to dhama and doing some service helps. Other times I think most of us working grihasthas are all in the same boat.

Anyway, I am going through your site and will try to watch some videos .

Thank you for such a wonderful and inspiring site.

It is truly a gift!

Vaishnavadasanudasi

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Guru Parampara! :pranams: Pranams! and :bless: Blessings! Welcome Manjulali to the Naam Yoga Sanga. Thankyou for your first post.

I try to fulfil my sankalpa of 'daily japa' of at least 4-8 rounds if 16 is not possible.

Yes, sankalpa or a fixed vow of chanting is essential for any kind of spiritual advancement. It may be any number of rounds as per our capacity but once we fix it, we should not sleep before completing that many number of rounds daily. That will gradually give us taste in Naam bhajana.

I also try to EVERYDAY without fail try to do kirtana for my benefit as well as the benefit of the family.

Loud Sankirtana (Singing the Names) is the best service to ourselves, our family and infact the whole world.

I also have a little altar at work besides my computer. I sometimes chant my gayatri at work! Rest of the time I forget.

Please try not to miss your daily Gayatri.

However, when I try to 'FIT' these things in a schedule they feel like just lip service and 'shabda'. My heart is not into them.

Discipline and daily schedule may feel bitter in the beginning but it will like nectar in the end as it will ensure our spiritual success.

Samsara feels like a davanala

It will no longer be davanala when the Holy Names of Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna start showering Their nectar in our heart. It will become...vishvam purna sukhayate...

krishna-nama dhare kata bala

visaya-vasananale mora citta sada jale

ravintapta maribhumi sama

karna-randhra patha diya, hrdi majhe pravesiya,

varisaya sudha anupama

"My heart is just like a desert, hot with the rays of the sun. This is my internal mental condition. The desire for mortal things cannot satisfy me because by nature they are death-producing. And not one or two, but thousands of such death-producing desires have taken shelter in my mind. So, my subconscious region is always burning. This is my condition. But somehow, by grace of the sadhu and guru, the Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Krishna with its infinite prospect has entered through the holes of my ears and reached the plane of my heart. And there, with some peculiar hope, with infinite, auspicious possibilities, it touched my heart with a new kind of nectar." (Seventh Goswami Shrila Saccidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura)

Thankyou for your kind words about the website. I am glad that the website is able to serve devotees.

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Yes, that is also problem in my life/ I am also feeling that there is not enough time 48 hours per day will not be enough! This tempo of life is just too demanding! I have similar situation Ė regular job 7-8 hours per day(on Saturdays also). At the same time I am finishing informatics studies that are also very demanding plus several after-hour jobs etc. So actually there is not enough time! This material struggle is too demanding!

†††

Thank you Swani Gaurangapada on wonderful answer. Yes you are right spiritual videos are greatest way for too busy modern person to jump into devotional mood.

†† I also practice several things, so it may help

†† 1. Mental chanting or singing. In bus or in job if it is possible I am singing different songs of our great acharyas.

†† 2. Learning verse and then repeating during other activities while working or walking..

†† 3. Listening devotional bhajans while learning or working on PC or cooking

4. Meditating that actually our everyday job or learning or other so-called material activities can become pure if we offer fruits of our work to spiritual cause, That will give us understanding that work or job is not material.

5. Trying to be practical and find balance in all activities because on that way I can be successful on long distance (I have tendency to burn out myself to totally jump into some project or work and then naturally quite opposite happened Ė body and mind batteries become empty, and then I need recharging. In several last years I am learning that middle way is most secure and recommended way, that I must be honest toward myself and act on my present limited level.

6. Practice devotional activity that inspires us most. If you like to chant Ė chant, if you like philosophy learn and read. If you like to dance have kirtan, if you like to play instruments become expert in that field. Then only short time in that activity will bring energy to devotional batteries.
