Title: Preparing food to be offered

User: bhaktaron††††† Date: 2006-06-30 01:15:40

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Please accept my humble obeisances.....and, indeed, I am indebted for all you do to advance our spiritual lives.

There are many times that I prepare food to be offered and find that I am preparing sufficient for two or three days. I do this in order to save time with food preparation and, to be honest, I am not all that excited about cooking so I do it for a few days at a time if I can.

So, considering this -- When offering food for Prasada would it be proper to offer only the food that is to be consmed that day? .... or to offer it all and keep it separated from other? If I would offer it all at one, there would not be preparations to offer on the following day or two.

I do not want to be offensive to Their Lordships and perhaps I need to consider changing how I prepare food.

Any advise, instruction, or suggestion is greatly appreciate about this.

Thank you so very much,

bhakta ron

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Cooked food can be offered only once to the Lord after cooking. Whereas uncooked foods like milk, yogurt, fruits, nuts etc. can be divided into parts and offered whenever one cooks them or whenever required. I understand, dear Ron, that at your age cooking is difficult and to clean the pots etc. is added work. But for your health purposes also, I suggest that you cook daily only the daily required quantity so the Lord will also get fresh bhoga daily. Though prasadam remains always transcendental, according to the Bhagavad Gita, non-prasadam foods after 3-6 hours after cooking enter into the modes of passion and ignorance. And if this is really difficult and not possible, then I would suggest you can offer Their Lordships sufficient fresh uncooked foods daily like fruits, milk, yoghurt and dried fruits and nuts instead of offering the cooked food which you had already offered before. Or even better if you can cook for them a special and small meal or kind of breakfast daily. I hope this helps.
