Title: Instructions In Chaitanya Charitamrta

User: candrika†††††††† Date: 2006-07-23 06:31:07

Chaitanya Charitamrita CC Madhya 15.107: "Simply by chanting the holy name of Krishna once, a person is relieved from all the reactions of a sinful life. One can complete the nine processes of devotional service simply by chanting the holy name.

CC Madhya 15.108: "One does not have to undergo initiation or execute the activities required before initiation. One simply has to vibrate the holy name with his lips. Thus even a man in the lowest classcan be delivered.

Does this mean that all the nine angas of devotional service that were specified before Lord Gaurangas advent are no longer necessary. That chanting the names actually cover all angas of devotional service?

And here it is also clearly stated that initiation is not necessary, so why do people still keep being initiated? I know that previous to Gaurangas advent there are many scriptural refrences to the multitude of things that have to be done to make spiritual progress, and also that state the importance of accepting an initiating Spiitual Master. But why are such scriptures referred back to even after Gauranga advented with new instruction and Chaitanya Charitamrta was written?

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Yes it does, nava vidha bhakti naam haite haya...(Hari Naam Chintamani)

Does this mean that all the nine angas of devotional service that were specified before Lord Gaurangas advent are no longer necessary.

They were not only specified before Lord Gauranga's advents but emphasized by Lord Gauranga Himself. All angas of Bhakti and Naam Yoga are ultimately there to enable us to chant the Naam with great quality and devotion and thus they can surely be adopted if they help us to chant better.

CC Madhya 15.108: "One does not have to undergo initiation or execute the activities required before initiation. One simply has to vibrate the holy name with his lips. Thus even a man in the lowest classcan be delivered.

Please read this thread: "http://vedabase.net/cc/madhya/15/108/en1"]Shrila Prabhupada's commentary on the above verse which you have quoted to understand the importance on initiation. This verse means that one does not have to wait for initiation to start the chanting of the Holy Names and even if one chants without initiation, one will be delivered from material bondage. But to attain the even higher levels of spiritual advancement including the topmost achievement of prema, one should receive the Naam from a realized Guru. Shrila Prabhupada also explains in his commentary that the progress is faster if one receives the seed of Naam from the Guru and chant the Holy Names under the Guru's guidance and shelter.
