You have said Shishupala attained Ishvara Sayujya ie. merging in the body of Lord Krishna? How did he return back to Vaikuntha then as the doorkeeper?
†Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:
†Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! It is explained by our Acharyas in the commentary to Shrimad Bhagavatam that first the soul of Shishupala entered into the body of Lord Krishna in front of all the Pandavas etc so he got Ishvara Sayujya (merging in the body of the Lord). From Ishvara Sayujya, he got Sarupya Mukti i.e.his original our-handed form as the doorkeeper of Vaikuntha. Since he is a servant of the Lord, he would never want to remain merged in the body of the Lord as there is no loving reciprocation and service with the Lord there. Of course both Jaya and Vijaya were now not satisfied with returning to their original Sarupya so they returned again in Kali Yuga as Jagai and Madhai to get the most rarely attained Krishna prema (love) from Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, who is described in Shrimad Bhagavatam by Garga Muni as pita avatara (yellow) incarnation of Lord Krishna in Kali Yuga and by Karbhajana Muni as krishna varanam tvisha akrishnam sangopangastra parshadam..
