Title: Constitutional position and madhurya-rasa

User: Swami Gaurangapada Date: 2006-11-05 11:28:00

Dear Swami Gaurangapada,

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Please accept my respectful obeisances.

I would like to ask You the following question: It is said that constitutionally each of us we have an eternally fixed relation with the Supreme Lord Gauranga Krishna. Chanting and worshiping Gauranga and Radha+Krishna we are aspiring for the topmost relation with the Lord called madhurya-rasa, or conjugal love. Is it possible to get it in spite of having another fixed eternal relation with the Lord? I suppose yes... So, please enlighten us about how does it work. Thank You very very much.

Remaining with the attempt to be Your humble servant,

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

††† Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! The soul has a fixed constitutional relationship with the Lord in one of the five main mellows in which the soul will find oneself to be fully satisfied and happy and will not aspire for anything else.

Like for example Shrila Hanuman is in dasya rasa or the mood of a servant with the Lord. Even though Shrila Hanuman may know that the moods of sakhya (friendship) or vatsalya (parenthood) or madhurya (conjugal) are higher than his own mood of dasya (servitorship), still he does not aspire for them as he is fully satisfied and blissful in his own mood.

This is proved by the fact that when Shrila Murari Gupta, the incarnation of Shrila Hanuman in Lord Gauranga's pastimes, was instructed by Lord Gauranga Himself to worship Lord Krishna in the moods of Shri Vrindavana instead of worshiping Lord Rama in the mood of aishvarya-purna dasya, he could not do it even though he tried for the whole night. Actually Lord Gauranga wanted to show to the world through this pastime that how a perfected soul remains fixed in one's mood and service to the Lord without considering it higher or lower. Devotees in all the five mellows are equally dear to the Lord.

Presently, we are in the conditioned stage, so we may artificially think that since the conjugal mellow is the highest, we should aim for that rather than other "lower" mellows. But this cannot be decided or speculated about by us in our conditioned stage. The only process we can do is chanting the Holy Names of Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna and hearing and reading the scriptures under proper guidance. Gradually the Nama Sadhana or unflincing faith in the process of chanting will reveal to us our eternal constitutional relationship with Lord Gauranga-Krishna and then one will start chanting and serving according to one's constitutional position. Thus the our eternal constitutional position with the Lord is not a matter of choice by us but will be revealed to us at the right time by the causeless mercy of Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna Nama.

And the soul will be perfectly happy and properly situated in that constitutional position which will be revealed by the Name at the proper time. If the soul artificially tries to accept a position through some external means or speculation, then the Holy Name will never reveal the soul's actual relationship with the Lord. Nityananda Gauranga Nama Lila Bhajana is the most fastest way in Kali Yuga to reveal our constitutional relationship with the Lord as it does not consider any offenses.
