Title: Bhagavad Gita As It Is Question

User: neilsf††† Date: 2006-08-08 19:29:07

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

All Glories to Swami Gaurangapada and the Guru Parampara!

All Glories to Shrila Prabhupada!

All Glories to all the Vaishnava devotees of the Lord!

When I went to the San Francisco Ratha Yatra on Sunday, I wanted to get a new copy of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is in hardcover, so I could really spend some time studying it.

I've seen on the website that the BBT has a nice "deluxe" edition out that I thought would be very nice to have. At the festival, I couldn't find the deluxe edition, but I did find a nice hardcover edition for a very good price.

I didn't look at it very closely at the time, but when I got it home I noticed that it was a reprint of the "original" 1972 edition.

Now although I am not very knowledgeable about such things, I have heard that there are certain devotees who prefer the 1972 edition and say that the latter edition has changed what Praphupada said.

I've decided to go ahead and purchase the "Deluxe" edition anyway and compare the two.

Now my question, which is for the entire sangha as well as Swami Gaurangapada: What are your thoughts on this matter? Is it something to be taken seriously?

I humbly submit myself to the lotus feet of Swami Gaurangapada and to the Lotus feet of all the Vaishnavas.

Thank you!

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Guru Parampara! :pranams: Pranams! and :bless: Blessings! Thankyou for your desire to read Shrila Prabhupada's Bhagavad Gita As It Is. You can read any edition of As It Is and there is no need to waste time in trying to compare the editions. That time could be better used to study Gita As It Is. The second revised edition is an effort to bring the Gita translation more closer to it's original translation by Shrila Prabhupada from the manuscripts etc. and to remove the typos, spelling mistakes etc. done by the previous editors. You can easily see the changes and the explanation for them here: "" and things should be clear.
