Title: A Baby Does Not Study.....must We

User: Swami Gaurangapada Date: 2006-07-14 12:14:00

I have just registered with the hope that with your divine grace andcompassion the path of my quest will now have more lights. Please accept me asyour student.

One question always disturbed me. That is a baby loves the motherunconditionally without bothering to know about her looks or qualities. Themother also reciprocrates knowing fully well that her baby is totally ignorantand helpless and that her baby is totally surrendered to her.

Now if we, by the dint of prarabdha samskar or by simple faith, can becomelike a helpless baby and surrender to His lotus feet, do we need to go into thestudies of the Vedas, the Gita and all other thick anddifficult-to-understand-books ? They help but without His divine grace one tendsto become proud of becoming a pundit or becomes a totally confused man. Is it amust to study the books?

†† Welcome Dilip Kumar Ghosh .

Nityananda! Gauranga! HareKrishna! You have the right and perfect consciousness and humility to learnabout the Absolute Truth.

Onequestion always disturbed me. That is a baby loves the mother unconditionallywithout bothering to know about her looks or qualities. The mother alsoreciprocrates knowing fully well that her baby is totally ignorant and helplessand that her baby is totally surrendered toher.

†† Yes sure the baby is totally helpless and surrendered to her mother but arethe Kali Yuga souls ever able cry to Lord Gauranga-Krishna with suchhelplessness and urgency and surrender? No, never, such crying with completedependance on the Lord is called sharanagati and is of six kinds which we maydiscuss is some other posts. Thus it is possible only for the greatly advancedrealized souls to cry totally helplessly to the Lord with true full surrenderand thus only they can be compared to the child. A neophyte devotee may claimfull surrender but when we ask him to give up his wife, home or money, he willstart shouting instead of crying.

Now if we, by the dint of prarabdha samskar or by simple faith, can become like ahelpless baby and surrender to His lotus feet, do we need to go into the studiesof the Vedas, the Gita and all other thick and difficult-to-understand-books?

Yes because we have not yet reached the state of spontaneous attachment andsurrender to Lord Gauranga-Krishna like the child you have described above. Weneed to practice devotional service according to scripture, guru and thevaishnavas.

Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita states:

maya mugdha jivera svatah nahi krishna gyana

jivera kripaya krishna kailaveda purana

"The Vedic scriptures and Puranas have been manifested by LordGauranga-Krishna Himself because the Lord knew that the soul bewildered by Hisillusory energy Mahamaya cannot understand Him on his own or by simply by thedint of one's own material intelligence."

The Vedic scriptures are our mother and the Lord is our father. To properlyunderstand the Father one has to take shelter of the Mother. There is no otherway.

Ofcourse one has to study the Vedic Scriptures under the guidance of abonafide Guru who can simplify the study and deeply teach us a few scripturesfrom the Vedas which are the essence of the Vedas in Kali Yuga. Acaryavanpurusho veda....One who has a bonafide and realized Guru knows everything in theVedas at one's fingertips because the Guru presents the distilled essence of allthe Vedas so one does not have to read and to research for thousands oflives.

†† The few main scriptures of Gauranga Dharma are the ones you can study andread so you will get the full essence of all the Vedic scriptures. The distilledessence of the Vedas is Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and all the Vedic scripturesrelated to His Holy Names and Pastimes are the most primely important in KaliYuga.

Theyhelp but without His divine grace one tends to become proud of becoming a punditor becomes a totally confused man. Is it a must to study thebooks?

†† Without reading or hearing or studying the Holy Books glorifying His HolyNames and Pastimes under the guidance of the realized Guru, you will never beable to factually achieve His Divine Grace. One becomes puffed up and pandita bythe study of speculative knowledge under a non-devotee puffed-up Guru. But underthe guidance and shelter of the bonafide Guru who is the worshiper of TheirLordships Nityananda-Gauranga, the saviors of Kali Yuga, you will never becomepuffed-up. Infact the more you become a pundit or learned, the more you willdisplay the humility of a Vaishnava like Shrila Ganganarayana Chakravarti, thegreat scholar disciple of Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura.

Iam your disciple, please helpme.

We accept you as a student and we are always at your service to guide you tothe eternal Kingdom of God.

We thank Nitaipada Maharaja and Divine Madman prabhu to responding in such adetailed way to your query.
