Question by Damodara
Svarupa dasa: In CB lesson 5 it says: I am entrusting these confidential topics
to you; do not reveal them to anybody. As long as My present incarnation
remains on this earth, if you reveal My identity, I shall destroy you. I have a
hard time understanding the part where is said "I shall destroy
you". Could you please elaborate on this? Why would Sri Caitanya
destroy a pious Brahmin if he would reveal the real identity?
Answer by Swami
Gaurangapada:
Lord Gauranga used the
word "samhaara" in Adi lila Chp 5.150 means kill. This is a
very good question because one may wonder why is the Lord talking of killing His
own pure devotee when He has Himself revealed Himself to him and given him His
full mercy by showing His eight-handed form.
The answer is simple.
When the Lord revealed His eight-handed form to the brahmana, the brahmana
understood the complete truth about Lord Gauranga being the Supreme Absolute
Truth and Lord Krishna Himself. As a devotee is very merciful and always
intensely wants to reveal the Lord to the common people in order to deliver
them. So if the Lord would have just told him only generally that do not reveal
Me till I complete My pastimes, he would have still gone ahead and done it
because the pure devotees are even more compassionate than the Lord.
So in order to make him
understand that this is a very serious instruction and cannot be broken even
for the sake of delivering the people, Lord Gauranga very playfully threatened
to kill him if he disobeys this order. Lord Gauranga did not at all meant to
actually kill him because the same Lord states in the Bhagavad Gita that na me
bhaktah pranayasti: My devotees never perish.
Lord Gauranga wants to
relish the vatsalya rasa of parenthood affection from Shri Shachidevi and Shri
Jagannatha Mishra and also His scholastic pastimes. So He did not on any acount
want the brahmana to reveal to His parents that He is God Himself because that
would disturb His childhood pastimes as His parents would not be able to love
Him as a child if they knew that He was God. There is much more I can say but
this is all for now.
These questions show you
great sincerity amd meticulousness in studying the most merciful scripture Shri
Chaitanya Bhagavata. Please keep it up. Going deep into Shri Chaitanya
Bhagavata is a 100% guarantee of ensuring our place in the spiritual world.
