The Misuse of Free Will
The Vedic scriptures explain that the soul is constitutionally a resident of an eternal realm, the spiritual world. It is explained in the Upanishads, 'nityo nityanam, cetanas cetananam, eko bahunam, yo vidadhati kaman' The Supreme Personality of Godhead is one amongst many, many souls who are all subordinate to Him. Every soui is endowed with a minute independence either to choose to love and serve God or to be independent of God and struggle for so-called illusory enjoyment in this material world. The souls in this world, i.e. all of us, have chosen the second option. The world revolves because every living being thinks that he is the lord and creator of the material world. Material consciousness has two psychic divisions. One is that I am the creator, and the other is that I am the enjoyer. But actually the Supreme Lord is both the creator and the enjoyer, and the living entity, being part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, is neither the creator nor the enjoyer, but a co-operator.
Due to the misuse of his free will, the living entity puts himself in various misconceptions, which keep him in the material world. We have explained these misconceptions with simple illustrations:
