Chaper 2: Bhagavan Alone Is the Supreme Truth
Fame and Wealth of God
Commentary by His Holiness
BRS Swami Gaurangapada

Q4. What are six qualities of Bhagavan and why is Lord Krishna to be worshiped?

A. Bhagavan has six eternal qualities - He possesses all wealth, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge and renunciation. Different forms of the Lord (Bhagavad-svarupa) manifest according to whether certain of these qualities are being expressed to greater or lesser degrees. For example, when His wealth feature is foremost, then He manifests as Narayana, the Lord of Vaikuntha; when His beauty and sweetness predominate, then He manifests as Vrindavana-Candra Sri Krsna. Therefore, only Sri Krsna is the topmost supreme manifestation of Bhagavan.

aisvaryasya samagrasya
viryasya yasasah sriyah
jnana-vairagyayos caiva
shannam bhaga itingana

Bhaga. These are opulences. Aisvarya means opulence and... Aisvaryasya samagrasya viryasya. Viryasya means strength. And yasasah. Yasasah means fame. And aisvaryasya viryasya yasasah sriyah. Sriyah means beauty. And jnana. Jnana means knowledge. And renunciation, vairagya. Renunciation. These six opulences, when you find presented in a personality in full, He is God. He is God.

His Holiness Swami Gaurangapada : So yesterday we saw how the Lord possesses supreme strength, spiritual and material, with the spiritual his strengthe is divine, he came from the pillar top protect his devotee Prahlad and he split the abdomen of the demon Hiranyakasipu, whom even the great demigods were fearful of, the demigods would run and hide even if he raised his eyebrows, he was such a powerful demon, but was like a tiny insect in front of Nrsinghadeva, half man half lion.

Another example of strength from the Bhagavatam, when the churning of the milk ocean was taking place, the Mandara mountain that is full of gold, was brought as a rod to churn the ocean. A snake was the rope and the demigods churned the ocean, the mountain was 1000s of miles high, it was such a huge mountain, so all the demigods tried to lift it, but they couldnt, in fact it fell on them and they were crushed to death. So Lord Vishnu came as Garuda, his carrier and the Lord lifted the mountain in the palm of his hand and he kept it on Garuda and glanced at the dead demons and demigods and brought them back to life.

So the Lord has that power to bring back to life. Like when Srivas Thakurs son had died during the sankirtan of the panchatattva, all dancing in Srivas house, but his son died in the inner chamber , the women folk were all crying and Srivas said it was auspicious as his son had died in the direct presence of the Lord, he has come and is dancing in my courtyard as Gauranga, please stop crying, your sons death is auspicious. He told Malini his wife that if she didnt stop crying he would do be vexed, as the Lord was singing in his courtyard and he didnt want that to stop even though his own son had died.

But Gauranga said , that something inauspicious had happened in Srivas house and made him tell him, he said dont hide anything from me. And Srivas said, no nothing to worry my dear Lord, but others told the Lord that actually Srivas son had died.

And the Lord cried

The others said that they have had so many births, so many wives, so many sons and we have transmigrated in the cycle of birth and death and now you are dancing in our homes, your beautiful lotus feet marked by the auspicious marks. These divine lotus feet, why should we care about the death of our son? We want to die in sankirtan so we are assured we will achieve you in our next lives!

But Gauranga said , dont worry Malini, me and Nityananda are your eternal sons
So Gauranga told them to bring out the body and Gauranga told him to get up from the dead, and by the order of Lord Gauranga the soul returned to the boys body, as all souls are servants of the Lord, it had to return to the body of Srivas son and started speaking.

He said why have you called me back. He said it was because of you that i got sucha fortunate auspicious body as the son of Srivas so that i could directly associate with you, directly get the mercy of your pure devotees. It is very good fortune that one takes the birth in the family of Vaishnavas. It means they have performed Bhakti yoga in previous lives, when one takes birth in the home of a devotee.

But even that birth is nothing as that to the birth of Srivas. As that house was where the Lord danced, like the rasa dance, that Krishna danced. So the son said my dear Lord you have given me birth in this place and given me the association of Srivas, who is none other than Narada Muni,
Everything is by your desire In that way Gauranga Mahaprabhu made the dead son talk and became alive and then he fell down dead again.

That is the power of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. He brought the soul back into the body, that is the power of Gauranga Mahaprabhu. This is the unlimited strength of the Lord, he is all powerful noone can disobey his order, he is all powerful

(1) Strength
(2) Fame
Most people are wanting to become famous in this world. The famous people are considered most fortunate, but we have to strive to be famous, but the Lord becomes famous automatically. One can become become famous in a town, in a country, on a planet, but one cannot become famous beyond that. Noone cares for other planets. Brahma can become famous in a Universe

Like the story when 4 handed Brahma went to have darshan of Krishna in Dwarka, and when he was at the gate of Dwarka he said he wanted to meet Krishna and so Krishna wanted to crush his ego, this is a pastime, Krishna wanted to tell him how insignificant he is, so Krishna sent his doorkeepers and said which Brahma are you, so he said "I am THE brahma of this universe

So they allowed him in and when he was in front of the Lord he saw many brahmas, some with 8 heads, some with 16 , some with 32 heads, some had 100s of head, some had millions of heads even, everything is possible, there are some universes that are gigantic, our universe is one of the smallest universes. As are the number of heads of brahma, so there are directions in the universe. Our brahma has 4 heads and we have 4 directions

Scientists are struggling to understand our small universe, they can never understand with their imperfect senses, the lords creation is infinite and Krishna is famous in all the universes, even the brahma with the millions of heads offers prostrated obeisances to the Lord, even with his million of heads....with difficulty...he went down

So Brahma realised how insignificant he is and how famous the Lord is!

3/4th of the creation, 1material world is 1/4 of creation

The Lord is worshipped in each and every material and spiritual universe
The spiritual word is 3/4 .
There is so much variety
So many complex universes in the material world, so one can imagine how transcendental the planets in the spiritual world must be. And everywhere the Lord is known and worshipped

This earth planet that is only one tiny planet in creation. So one can imagine how famous the Lord is, how many times the name of Krishna is being chanted in the whole of creation, every second
times the holy name of the Lord is being chanted.

Each and every soul has an eternal relation with the Lord and must chant the name of the Lord at some time or another to worship the Lord.

Can you count how many grains of sand are on the beach, or how many atoms in the air?? Impossible!!

So that is how he is famous, the more the Lord becomes famous, the more chance there is that the souls will worship him and get out the cycle of birth and death. Bhagavatam says that in the whole of creation all that is there is the Lord, all there is is the Lord at the beginning, middle and end, and the whole is meant to give enjoyment to Lord Gauranga Krishna

(1) Beauty
(2) Fame
(3) Wealth

His Holiness Swami Gaurangapada : So the Lords third quality which is wealth

So he wanted to save the conditioned soul so he gave up his transcendental divine Navadwip to go to Puri and deliver the conditioned souls.
So we come to the third opulence of the Lord,
the last one for today..
(3) Wealth

the third opulence, the Lord is the possessor of all wealth

aham sarvasya prabhavo
mattah sarvam pravartate
iti matva bhajante mam
budha bhava-samanvitah
aham-I; sarvasya-of all; prabhavah-the source of generation; mattah-from Me; sarvam-everything; pravartate-emanates; iti-thus; matva-knowing; bhajante-become devoted; mam-unto Me; budhah-the learned; bhava-samanvitah-with great attention.
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.
Bhagavad Gita 10.8

Lord Krishna says that as the Lord he OWNS the whole creation. If everything is coming from Gauranga, then the Lord owns the whole creation, nothing is separate from him so how much wealthy he must be. In the material world men become so proud of their wealth and looks down on the poor people, but that is like temporary, a person may have billions of dollars in the bank, but still in his next life he may become an animal and an animal cant have a bank account

There are so many wealthy people in this world, but there wealth is temporary it will be finished with their bodies
But the Lords wealth is permanent

He owns the whole of creation as the whole creation is within him
What can he want what can we offer him, nothing material we offer him satisfies him, no amount of material things we give is appreciated by the Lord, he is not satisfied by that

patram pushpam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati

patram-a leaf; pushpam-a flower; phalam-a fruit; toyam-water; yah-whoever; me-unto Me; bhaktya-with devotion; prayacchati-offers; tat-that; aham-I; bhakti-upahritam-offered in devotion; asnami-accept; prayata-atmanah-from one in pure consciousness.
If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.
Bhagavad Gita 9.26

Questions and Answers

Chandrika Gauranga dasi : Is there a difference between Krishna and Gaurnag in as much as Krishna can be seen clearly to be an enjoyer whereas Gauranga less so as he is renounced

His Holiness Swami Gaurangapada : in the spiritual world he does not renounce he is simply enjoying.

Gauranga dasi : at present is He in all 3 Dhams?

His Holiness Swami Gaurangapada : The Lord can be in all places at once. Performing different pastimes in different places. Doing so many activities, so in that way Krishna expands himself exhibiting different pastimes in different places

Gauranga dasi says : But His male associates are gopis in Vrndavana Rasa do they expand too?

His Holiness Swami Gaurangapada : It is like Gauranga at the Rathayatra , he was in each of the seven parties simultaneously, each party imagined that the Lord was dancing with them personally, only someone at the top of a palace saw that the Lord was in all the parties and he concluded that Gauranga is the supreme personality of Godhead. As the Lord expands so do the Lords associates expand just like the Lord. The Lord cannot go alone to perform his pastimes, just like now presently the pastimes of Krishna and Gauranga are finished, in other universes Gauranga and Krishna may be performing their pastimes, and always the pure devotees are with him, he gives them the transcendental divine power to expand

Narrotama dasa is singing that at the time when the Lord was there then that soul would have been an associate of the Lord, if once we become perfect in our bhakti yoga in our chanting, one becomes one hundred percent sure of becoming an associate, and then he is trained and then the soul becomes a permanent soul of the Lord.

Chandrika Gauranga dasi : what if some spirit is so poor that he has no love to offer

His Holiness Swami Gaurangapada : that cannot be possible because the soul is full of love for the Lord.
