Dear Shri Swami Gaurangapada, Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!
Please accept my respectful obeisances.
I am reading again and again the very important purport of Shrila Prabhupada in CC Adi-lila 8.31 reagarding the chanting and worshiping Shri Shri Gaura-Nityananda. There is one sentence, which i can't properly interprete in the context of the whole purport. It concerns the sentence at the ende: "Therefore one must first take shelter of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu by chanting shri-krishna-chaitanya prabhu-nityananda shri-advaita gadadhara shrivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda." With this sentence and especially with the word 'therefore', for me it seems like Shrila Prabhupada was expressing a concrete practical conclusion and solution to the explanations of the whole purport. As if He was finally projecting the whole 'theory' of the purport in this specific practical instruction and the 'theory' culminated in this single sentence.. Does this sentence and the word 'therefore' stand in relation with just the precedent sentence, or the whole purport, or maybe a certain paragraph? How i should understand this sentence of Shrila Prabhupada in the context of this purport?
Please, help me to understand it with Your enlightening realisations.
Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Shrila Prabhupada states in the above commentary that the chanting of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Holy Name is more essential than chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and that one must chant the two Holy Names of Nityananda and Gauranga very regularly. When he concludes his commentary with the Pancha Tattva Mantra, it is to be understood that he is giving us the Pancha Tattva Mantra for chanting in the beginning of kirtana and japa but not in the form of proper japa. He has prohibited us to chant the Pancha Tattva Mantra on beads as japa. So as japa, we cannot chant the Pancha Tattva Mantra.
In our humble estimation, just chanting the Pancha Tattva Mantra one or three times at the beginning of japa of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra does not constitute full or very regular shelter of the Holy Names of Nityananda and Gauranga. Since shelter of Hari Naam means to chant japa of minimum 25,000 Names of Hare Krishna daily, how can the shelter of Nitai Gaura Naam mean to just chant Them once or thrice daily? So the only way for us to chant japa of Nityananda and Gauranga's Holy Name considering all the instructions of Shrila Prabhupada is his instruction in Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita Antya 2.31: "Anyone who chants the Gauranga mantra and the names of Radha Krishna (Hare Krishna) are on the same level." Thus the Nityananda and Gauranga (Gaura Gopala) Mantrarajas are the only means to implement the instructions of Shrila Prabhupada to the neophyte student to take very regular shelter of the Holy Names of Nitai Gaura and worship Them without false prestige before indulging in the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. The shelter of the Pancha Tattva Mantra can be taken at the beginning of japa and kirtana but the shelter of Gauranga, the Gaura Gopala Mantra can be taken always in japa or kirtana as it is authorized and bonafide Mantra chanted by Lord Nityananda, Shrila Shivananda Sena and all our Acharyas. I hope this helps.
