Yesterday I had one discusion with person who is chanting Maha-mrtyunjaya mantra (Shiva mantra) and other mantras dedicated to Shiva. I was explained about glories of Gauranga and Nityananda Mantrarajas (he already know about Maha Mantra). I sugessted him to chant Mantrarajas, he suggested me to chant Maha-mrtyunjaya mantra. We discused defferent points(I will not do in details), but I would like to ask you folowing questions so that we can benefit from your answers (for my personal and benefits of others).

1. What is basic difference between vaisnavisam and saivisam?
2. Is saivisam impersonalisam? What exactly is impersonalism?
3. Are shiva mantras also part of vaisnavisam? (vaisnava yatha sambhu)
4.What is signifitance of Deity Hari-Hara? (in discusion he made this point that actually that this Deity is proff that devotees of Vishnu and devotees of Shiva is worshipimg same Absolute Truth? How to understand that?
5. What is significance (if any, for NG devotees) of mantra that he mentioned - Maha-Mrtyunjaya mantra?

Sorry...many questions from discussion......you probably aswered before  some of this questions...in that case sorry if I am asking twice and all of once.

1. Vaishnavism accepts the reality that Lord Krishna is Bhagavaana, the ultimate source of the creation (64 divine qualities to an unlimited extent) and Lord Shiva as His guna avataara partial expansion and dear devotee (who has 55 divine qualities to a reasonable extent). Whereas Shaivism wrongly thinks that Lord Shiva is ultimate source of everything which is actually not pleasing to Lord Shiva himself.

2. Saivism is of many kinds. It has both monistic, and dualistic traditions. Monistic Shaivites believe that the entire creation is both an expression of conscious divinity and is non-different from that divinity which they call "Shiva". This is impersonalism and word jugglery and if they reject the personal form of the Lord Gauranga Krishna, who is the Master of Lord Shiva, then it turns into Mayavada. Dualistic Shaivites accept the forms of Lingam, Rudra, HariHara, Dakshinamurti, Bhairava etc. but again, falsely consider Lord Shiva as the Supreme and do not understand the intimate relationship between Lord Shiva and Lord Gauranga Krishna. The Vedas and Upanishads have a section for those in the mode of ignorance where they may glorify Lord Shiva as Supreme. But he is the supreme for only those in the mode of ignorance and they may need to take shelter of Shiva to rise to the higher modes of goodness and pure goodness when they will understand that Lord Gauranga Krishna is the Supreme for all souls and for Lord Shiva himself. Shaivites stress more on Agamas which were more recently written than the Puranas directly written by Shrila Vyasadeva much earlier.

3. The Shiva Mantras found in the sections of the Vedas dealing with the mode of ignorance are of no interest to the Vaishnava devotees who want to attain the platform of Vishuddha Sattva or pure goodness. Though, since Shiva is a great devotee of the Lord, his Name and direct Mantras are also considered aupicious for remembrance if Shiva is remembered as a great devotee rather than being God Himself.

4. Lord HariHara manifested because Lord Hari wanted to show how dear Lord Shiva is to Him. So He embranced His own devotee and guna expansion and manifested a combined form of Lord HariHara. Because Shiva thinks of the Lord constantly, the Lord also constantly thinks about him and combines with him as Harihara to accept worship.

5. The Mritunjaya mantra is a prayer to Lord Shiva to relieve us about the fear of death. Devotees of Lord Gauranga Krishna have no interest in asking this because the devotees are fully surrendered to the Lord and are thus fearless about death. So the devotees ask the great devotee Shiva not for freedom from the fear of death but for pure Gauranga Krishna prema (love).
