Title: Family not understanding User: Swami Gaurangapada Date: 2007-04-06 13:37:02
Dear Swamiji, Hare Krishna. I have seen many families has tremendous love for each other with in the family. We call them a Khandan (noble) family in Gujarat. This are now rare to find. The opposite kind where there are nothing but problems at every steps between husband/wife, kids and surrounding. In the theory of past life and deed scenerio, were these bitter enemies in past? What about the different devotional standards between man/wife? I was watching Shrila Prabhupada's dvd life history. Shrila Prabhupada long before sannyasa in 1959 had ill relationship between them two. His wife, Name Radha was not recognizing his Spiritual practices. She refused Spiritual initiation and kept on consuming tea as it was evident in the life history drama. Does this mean the devotees like Prabhupada had enemity with his wife in past? One can site few more examples like Bhakta Narsih Mehta from Gujarat and Meerabai from Mevad. Honestly, sometimes I also feel that I am also a victim to this. My family refuses to accept Lord Gauranga is Radha-Krishna and their past time entirely. We differ in devotional path and in disharmony especially in late in life when crossed sixty. I will appreciate your answer guruji. Your servant in Gauranga's service.
Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:
Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Guru Parampara! Pranams and Blessings ! In regards to Shrila Prabhupada's life, Lord Gauranga Krishna deliberately puts His pure devotees in difficult situations to glorify to the world their devotion for Him and/or to prepare them for His mission. Shrila Prabhupada's disagreement in marriage life was not due to mundane karmic reactions like enemity in the past etc. it was directly the Lord's arrangement to make him ready for His mission.
It is very unfortunate that your family members do not accept Lord Gauranga as Shri Shri Radha Krishna and support you in your Nityananda Gauranga Bhakti. They do not want to recognize the very Lord who gave up Goloka in Kali Yuga and gave up even His eternal mother and wife in Navadvipa for the sake of delivering them and all of us. They were very fortunate to get a family member in you who has developed faith in the most rare and merciful Lords Nityananda Gauranga. But they are throwing away this rarest good fortune of theirs by not accepting Lord Gauranga as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. I feel great pain and sadness when I hear that the tiny insignificant souls have the courage to reject the infinite Supreme Lord Krishna Himelf who came in Kali Yuga as Lord Gaurahari. Oh, what hope is there for this world if they do not quickly accept the most merciful Lords Nityananda Gauranga and Their Holy Names and Pastimes!
I sympathize with your situation at this age. I will pray for your welfare and attainment of prema. It is a test arranged for you by the Lord. When we have opposition, our faith in Lords Nityananda Gauranga should become even more stronger. You can humbly present to them all the hundreds of verses in the books Lords Nityananda Gauranga in the Vedas in the NITAI Veda. You should read Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata regularly and sometimes tell them the miraculous pastimes about how Lord Gauranga is Lord Krishna Himself like for example the one where King Prataprudra developed a doubt in Lord Gauranga when he saw divine saliva emanating from His mouth and nose while dancing and when he went home, in the dream, Lord Jagannatha showed him the same form with divine saliva from His mouth and nose and refused to be touched by him. Lord Jagannatha then was transformed to Lord Gauranga. What a beautiful pastime!!! There are so many these kind of pastimes in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata. You should somehow try your best to turn their mind about Lord Gauranga. You are their only hope. But first you need to fixed in understand Nityananda Gauranga Tattva by reading Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata regularly. Then you can convincingly share it with others. This is a nice opportunity to talk about Lords Nityananda Gauranga also. I hope this is helpful.
