Title: House on the rocks

Please accept my respectful Obeisances! Gurudeva Ki Jaya! Prabhupada Ki Jaya!
There is a wonderful story of two men who both built seperate houses for themselves, one decided to build his house on the rocks by the sea and the other decided he would like to be closer to the beach and built on the sand.
The tide and shifting sands soon destroyed the house on the dunes, but the long term planning of the other man up on the rocks ensured a secure house.
In sanskrit this is a simple metaphor illustrating Sreyas and Preyas,
Preyas are acts aimed at immediate enjoyment without considering the future, and Sreyas is activity aimed at permanant benefit.
A child does not want to go to school. He would, given the choice, rather choose to play. A child will always adopt the pattern of Preyas, immediate enjoyment, like the man who built on the sands.
The parents know that the school work may not be pleasing at first to the child, but in the future then the childs education will provide more permanant happiness,- Sreyas. Like the man who built on the rocks.
Similarly we should also be mature enough to fully take to Chanting Nitai Gouranga and Hare Krishna every day so that in the future we will get permanant benefits from a spiritual body, by performing permant activities of devotional service in Krishna consciousness.
Not to seek the immediate comforts of this body and like the man who only considered being more convieniently located to the beach, and failed to realise he would be washed away, if we forget krishna and become engrossed in sense gratification, we
will also be drowned in the material ocean.
Sreyas is intelligent, Preyas is child like and unwise
