Title: Give it a shot

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

When we forget that we are spiritual part and parcels of the Lord and are his eternal servants, all our suffering begins. When we forget this and don't act accordingly we become influenced by false ego, thinking ourselves to be the mind or the body. Basically when we are influenced by the three gunas in any way, when we think we are the masters of the material energy that would be a bodily conception of live, avidya, ignorance of our actual postion. Remember maya is very clever, when we are infected by the three gunas we attempt to Lord over material nature and we think ourselves the master of the external energy, we think ourselves to be God basically, but really what is happening is the gunas are impelling our senses to act according to the mode or modes we have infected, we have no choice whatsover, we must act accordingly. Actually maya is always lording over the conditioned souls even in our sleep and we are but fools to think of ourselves as controllers in any way, we are so infitesimal, helpless, and controlled.

Even if we know theoretically that we aren't the body, if we don't act on the spiritual platform by performing unalloyed bhakti yoga and offering everything to the lotus feet of the Vaishnavas and the Lord then we are still partially on the bodily concept of life. If our urges to satisfy our temporary material senses can overpower the urge to satisfy the Lord's senses then that is a bodily concept. If we aren't completely detached from anything mundane and not related to the Lord's superior energy and if we aren't anxious to always be engaged in the Lord's service then that is a bodily concept. If we don't see the spiritual spark in all living entities, but instead see the different bodies to be different types of living entities, then that is a bodily conception.

Basically I feel that if we aren't engaged in unalloyed bhakti yoga on a fixed platform and aren't completely detached from all mundane things, then we can still come under the influence of maya and false ego and consequently think ourselves to be the body or the mind. Chanting the pure holy names is the only way in this age, our only hope to break free of our conditioning. We must give it a shot.
