Brain Damaging Things


1. No Breakfast                                                      

People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level.

This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.                                   


2. Overeating                                                         

It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.                                                         


3. Smoking                                                           

It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.


4. High Sugar consumption                                              

Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.                                                           


5. Air Pollution                                                      

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.                                


6. Sleep Deprivation                                                  

Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.                                                                                                            

7. Head covered while sleeping                                       

Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.                                                   


8. Working your brain during illness                                  

Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.             


9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts                                     

Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.                     


10. Talking Rarely                                                    

Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain  -----------


The main causes of liver damage are:                                  


1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.


2.        Not urinating in the morning.                             


3.         Too much eating.                                            


4.        Skipping breakfast.                                        


5.        Consuming too much medication.                      


6.        Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.                                           


7.        Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.                                                   


8.   Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.

eggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.                                                                                                    



Evening at 9 - 11pm : is the time for eliminating unnecessary/toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to devotional audios or videos.


Evening at 11pm - 1am : is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.                    


Early morning 1 - 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also   ideally done in a deep sleep state.                                                                                                                                                                     Early morning 3 - 5am : detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.                                                                                                                   

Morning 5 - 7am: detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.                                                                                                                                          Morning 7 - 9am: absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all.                                                                                 


Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of   removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

'Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Thank you Swami for the enlightening info. I'd also like to add a couple other things. Loss of semen is also extremely damaging to the brain as well. It contains vital nutrients like lecithin and phosphorous which are taken from the brain during sex acts. Basically all the nutrition of the brain is leaving the body during sex, so how much more damage can be done to the brain? From the Ayur- veda we learn that the body is built and sustained by the elements of body which are formed from the food we eat. First the usable portion of food, when digested, forms lymph, then blood, then muscle, then fat, then marrow, then bone, then semen or ovum. Semen contains a combination of all other elements. Therefore, when excessive semen is lost through unrestricted sex, all the other bodily elements are also depleted. I could go on and on about the harms to the brain and body caused by illicit sex but there is no end. There are some good articles on this topic in some earlier forums of Swami Gaurangapada's that goes into the details on this subject matter, I can't seem to locate them presently though. All in all I don't think there is anything as debilitating as illicit sex to the brain, because the effects are noticeable immediately, and nothing is worse for one trying to advance in spiritual life than illicit sex, I believe it is that dangerous.


Another thing that Swami touched upon was the use of frying with cooking oil. This is also another very real problem in today's society, especially the United States where people eat fast food regularly. What happens is the essential fatty acids in oil convert to free radicals when the oil reaches a certain temperature and these free radicals cause extreme damage to the cells of the body, including the brain. These free radicals actually cause a chain reaction where they multiply without end damaging cells of the body which will eventually lead to some sort of degeneration. And when you are done eating the food cooked in the oil, the damaging effects continue to occur because of the multiplication of these free radicals. This is why degenerative diseases are on the rise. Basically the oils you buy on the shelf at the supermarket are already extremely toxic because of the processing that they go through to extend their shelf life. For more details here one should read Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill, by Udo Erasmus. These oils are by no means safe to use, unless you want to totally destroy the cells of your body. Basically any oil with any essential fatty acids will become toxic if you use it to fry with. The only safe things to use when frying are ghee, pure butter, or coconut oil because there are no fatty acids, only saturated fat. Of course you shouldn\'t fry food very much at all because all that you are doing is damaging the food anyhow. I have a bad experience with frying potatoes in cooking oil during a period of about a year or so. I thought the oil was safe, but then I later found out just how damaging this oil is to the brain and the cells. I felt more foggy minded and tired, I could almost feel like I was degenerating. If anyone has been exposed to such things as fried foods, drugs, pollution, illicit sex, etc, there are detoxifying and rebuilding supplements you can take like flax oil, chlorella, spirulina, and antioxidant vitamins which can repair your brain and body.


I am just speaking from experience because I have used all these things due to my previous bad habits, so if anyone needs help here feel free to send me a private message. Of course I really don't care too much about the body because it will perish anyway, but I am only concerned because a weak body and mind can severely hamper one's devotional service and lead to offenses. One only becomes offensive in the first place if they can't control their senses, and to do this the brain and nerves have to be in good shape. I have to say though that nothing can help the  body and mind like an abundant amount of LOUD Sankirtana in the association of devotees, the prescribed medicine by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu for this age of Kali. In the Bhagavad Gita the Lord says, eat foods that are wholesome, fatty and pleasing to the heart. Offer him with love a flower leaf fruit etc.


I would say that a good heart, simplicity, kindness and other spiritual qualities to reduce offenses are the goal.

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! The bhoga made in a way which would create a negative health impact should not be offered to the Lord as much as possible as the Lord is also a person and so are the devotees who are going to accept that maha-prasadam.


We should offer whatever is favorite to the Lord and we can also cook whatever is our favorite for the pleasure of the Lord not simply for the pleasure of our tongue since we will get it anyway after the Lord accepts our offering.

The brain needs amino acids in order to function correctly. These are the building blocks of protein. Hence the importance of protein. People who lack protein often feel light headed and may hallucinate somewhat.


Some amino acids are also essential for sleep at night and alertness during the day. As for example the amino acid tryptophan is converted to serotonin and melatonin which are important for those for those functions.


Just a note, tryptophan is converted to serotonin by a reaction with sunlight, when light goes, it is converted to melatonin to make you sleep. Hence you get sleepy when it gets dark, if you have enough protein intake.


Its amazing how the Lord has arranged things!
