"If those who are opposed to the Holy Name, Form, Pastimes and Incarnation of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu simply read or hear Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita with their mind, heart and consciousness, they will become completely pure, cleansed and purified of all envy towards the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and will thus engage in His pure devotional service. Preface by Swami Gaurangapada

What follows is the English translation of the 143 verses of the topmost Sanskrit literature ever written in the glorification of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu known as Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita composed by His Divine Grace Paramhansa Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada who is none other than Shrimati Tungavidya Sakhi, one the eight principal Gopi assistants of the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna in Shri Vrindavana Dhaam.

Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita was the favourite book His Divine Grace Seventh Goswami Shrila Sacchidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura, His Divine Grace Shri Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada and His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. All these three great acharyas repeatedly quoted from this book and wore the jewel-like verses from this book always around their neck. It is said that His Divine Grace Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada would end his lectures many times by reciting a verse from this book. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada also had a great desire to see this book translated and published and following in the footsteps of his spiritual master, he often quoted verses 5 and 90 from this book with great pleasure and emphasis.

In this book, Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvatipada elaborates, in his characteristic madly ecstatic style, on the svarupa or spiritual form of the Lord Gauranga's Name, Form, Qualities, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes, the Lord's mood as He sports therein, and the qualities and mood of a true follower of Lord Gauranga who is desirous of entering this abode of Navadvipa-Vrindavana. He talks about the rejection of unfavorable material obstacles, and an impossibly resolute determination to attain the supreme goal of life which is pure unalloyed service to Shri Gauranga and Shri Shri Radha Krishna and Their Holy Names and Pastimes. This book is a compedium of verses grouped in twelve chapters in the supreme glorification of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu.

In one sentence Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita can be summarized as:

"THE BRAHMA SAMHITA OF GAURANGA TATTVA"

His Divine Grace Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada is the Brahma of Gauranga Tattva and thus the Gauranga Tattva Acharya of the world.

It is our firm conviction that without studying, reading or hearing the 143 verses of this book very scrutinizingly and memorizing the verses or translations from this book no one can properly understand and comprehend the glories of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and actual philosophy (tattva) of Gauranga Bhajana (worship) even if one may try for many many lives.

It is thus our fervent prayer at the lotus feet of all the devotees to repeatedly and regularly read, hear and distribute Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita thus making it their life and soul. Please string the superexcellent chintamani-like (touchstone) verses of Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita into a garland and constantly wear it around your neck. In that way you will be able to fully satisfy the innermost desire of Lord Shri Nityananda Prabhu which is to serve Lord Gauranga by understanding and spreading the glories of His Holy Names and Pastimes.

We would request the worldwide devotees to come forward and support the paper-publishing and mass distribution of this book in English and also the translation and publication in other world languages. As Shrila Prabhupada writes in the Shrimad Bhagavatam Introduction, this will be the most effective means to spread the full glories of the Holy Names and Pastimes of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu in this world.

We also profusely thank the late His Grace Kushakratha dasa prabhu whose first translation of Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita many years back has kept this book alive in the present times in the English language even though it was not widely available.

We have intensely labored to closely translate every Sanskrit syllable of the verses with the choicest words available in the English language so that the English language is purified by vividly describing glories of the Holy Name, Form and the Supreme Mercy of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. We are certainly sure without an iota of doubt that even one verse of this topmost sublime literature is capable of imparting the supremely pure love of Lord Gauranga-Krishna to the most fallen conditioned living entities who may happen to read or hear it.

Biography of Gauranga Tattva Acharya His Divine Grace

Paramhansa Jagadguru Shrila Prabodhananda Thakura Prabhupada

By His Divine Grace Shri Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura

Beginning in the year 1511, the Supreme Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu made a pilgrim's journey of the holy places in South India, where He liberally distributed His mercy to all the people there. Starting from Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama, He first went to the Godavari river, and from there He traveled to many holy places in what is now the state of Madras. On Shukla Ekadashi of the month of Ashadha, Shriman Gauranga Mahaprabhu arrived at Shri Ranga-Kshetra, where He decided to reside during the four months of Chaturmasya. In this way Lord Gauranga spent four months seeing the beautiful form of His own Deity, Lord Ranganatha, and preaching His Holy Names. At this time Lord Gauranga stayed at the home of three brothers: Tirumalaya, Vyenkata (whose son was Gopala Bhatta Goswami) and Gopala Guru (Prabodhananda Sarasvati), who were Shri Vaishnavas, followers of Ramanujacharya, and devoted to the worship of Lakshmi-Narayana. Lord Gauranga explained the superiority of Lord Krishna's Name and Lila to His hosts, and their conversation on this point is recorded in Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita Madhya-lila, Chapter Nine. At this time Gopala Guru (Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura) became very attached to Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Vyenkata's son (Gopala Bhatta Goswami), also became attached to the Lord. Later Shrila Gopala Bhatta Goswami accepted Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura as his illustrious Guru and became expertly trained and well-versed in all the revealed Vedic scriptures under his careful guidance.

Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati became a staunch follower of Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and is considered one of the great acharyas in the Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya and one of the first Tridandi Sannyasis in the line of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. Actually he is one of the great eternal associates of the Lord. When Lord Gauranga appeared in His form of Lord Krishna in Vrindavana, Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati was one of the most important gopis. This is recorded in Shrila Kavi Karnapura's Gaura-gannoddessa dipika (163): "The gopi Tungavidya (one of the eight principal sakhi associates of Shri Shri Radha Krishna), who appeared in Vrajabhumi during the Lord Krishna's pastimes, also appeared during the pastimes of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. At that time she appeared as Tridandi Swami Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura, who became famous as Sarasvati because of his eloquent (sarasvati) glorification of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu in Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita."

Prabodhananda Saraswati is also mentioned in the introduction to Shrila Sanatana Gosvami's Hari-bhakti-vilasa (1.2):  "This book, Hari-bhakti-vilasa, was originally compiled by Shrila Gopala Bhatta Gosvami, the disciple of Shrila Prabodhananda Saraswati, who is very dear to Lord Gauranga-Krishna. Gopala Bhatta brought great happiness to Shrila Rupa Gosvami, Shrila Sanatana Gosvami, and Shrila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami by achieving the mercy of Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura."

He is also described in Shrila Narahari Chakravarti's classic book Bhakti Ratnakara as follows:

"Shrila Prabodhananda Saraswati was full of all the topmost transcendental qualities, and therefore he was known everywhere by the name Sarasvati. He was very devoted to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Shri Krishna Chaitanya (Gauranga) Mahaprabhu, and he always remembered His Holy Name even while asleep. He was full of love for the devotees, and was also very austere and renounced. His handsome form was very pleasing to see, and he was also a learned poet and scholar. No one could compare with him in the arts of singing, dancing and playing musical instruments for the pleasure of Lord Gauranga-Krishna. Everyone who heard his eloquent speech became overwhelmed with spiritual happiness. These are some of the incomparable and unlimited glories of Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada."

After Lord Gauranga left South India and returned to Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama in Orissa, Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati became rapt in always remembering Him and continuously chanting His Holy Name within his heart. Prabodhananda left his home in Ranga Kshetra  and travelled to Shri Vrndavana Dhama, where he stayed in the forest of Kamyavana, and where he was soon met by his nephew and illustrious disciple Shrila Gopala Bhatta Gosvami.

Chapter One: Auspicious Invocation of Lord Gauranga

Verse 1: Gauranga's love has no limits...

stumas tam chaitanyaakritim ativimaryaada-paramaa-

dbhutaudaaryam varyam vraja-pati-kumaaram rasayitum

vishuddha-sva-premonmada-madhura-piyusha-laharim

pradaatum chaanyebhyah para-pada-navadvipa-prakatam (1)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 1: "Let us invoke the glorification of the boundlessly, unlimitedly and supremely magnanimous form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Shri Krishna, the Prince of Vraja, Who appeared in the supreme transcendental abode of Navadvipa as Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu. He specifically advented to taste the most pure intoxicating nectarean waves of unalloyed love for Himself, as well as to distribute that supreme nectar to all the living entities through the chanting of His own Holy Names in the form of the Nityananda Gauranga Naam and the Hare Krishna Mahamantra."

Verse 2: Even the most sinful will roll on the ground...

dharmaasprishtah satata-paramaavishta evaatya-dharme

drishtim praapto na hi khalu sataam shrishtishu kvaapi no san

yad datta-shri-hari-rasa-sudhaa-svaada-mattah pranritya-

ty ucchair gaayaty atha viluthati staumi tam kanchid isham (2)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 2: "There are many people who are completely untouched by any religious piety, who are supremely absorbed in sinful and irreligious activities, who have never ever received the merciful glance of the saintly devotees and have never ever visited any kind of holy place of pilgrimage sanctified by the Lord or His devotees. Even this most unfortunate class of people will ecstatically dance, loudly sing and even roll about on the ground by becoming intoxicated on tasting just a drop of the nectar of the transcendental mellows of pure love of God given by Lord Gauranga in His Holy Name of Gauranga. Let me therefore glorify the supremely magnanimous Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu with all my heart."

Verse 3: No Yoga, Samadhi, Karma or Gyana...

naamnaiva praaduraasid avatarati pare yatra tam naumi gauram (3)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 3: "The most confidential pure devotional service to Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga and Shri Shri Radha Krishna is not attainable even by the staunch faithful performers of pious deeds (karma yogis), nor by those who attain the ultimate stage of trance (samadhi) by the practice of austerities, yoga and meditation, nor by those who are completely absorbed in renunciation, knowledge, worship and detachment from the fruits of work, nor by those who are engaged in philosophical speculation or the recitation of prayers, nor can it be fully understood even by the topmost pure devotees of Lord Govinda who are full of pure love for Him. This supreme secret  is exclusively revealed to only those who take the full shelter of the Holy Name, Pastimes and Abodes of Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Who has advented to purify this most fortunate age of Kali Yuga."

Verse 4: Even if remembered for afar...

drishtah sprishtah kirtitah samsmrito vaa

durasthair apy aanato vaadrito vaa

premnah saaram daatum isho ya ekah

shri-chaitanyam naumi devam dayaalum (4)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 4: "Whether seen, touched, glorified, intensely remembered, worshiped, bowed down too from afar or called upon by the chanting of His most merciful Holy Name of Gauranga, Lord Gauranga causelessly awards to anyone and everyone the essence of pure unalloyed love for Himself as that is the purpose of His advent. Thus I offer my respectful obeisances to this most merciful Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name, Who are the only liberal distributors of pure love of God in the whole creation."

Verse 5: Operation of the Senses and Liberation becomes Hellish...

kaivalyam narakaayate tri-dasha-pura aakaasha-pushpaayate

durdaantendriya-kaala-sarpa-patali protkhaata-damshtraayate

vishvam purna-sukhaayate vidhi-mahendraadish cha kitaayate

yat-kaarunya-kataaksha-vaibhavavataam tam gauram eva stumah (5)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 5: "For those most supremely fortunate souls who have even once attained the opulence of the most merciful and compassionate sidelong glance of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name, impersonal liberation becomes as palatable as going to hell. The happiness of the heavenly planets of the demigods becomes as trivial and inconsequential as flowers imagined to be floating in the sky. The venomous and poisonous fangs of the untamable black snakes of the senses become extracted and uprooted, the whole world which is full of misery and suffering becomes full of supreme joy and the greatly exalted positions of Brahma, Indra and all the demigods become as insignificant as those of tiny insects. Let us therefore certainly and constantly glorify that most merciful Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Supreme Holy Name."

Verse 6: Playfully laugh and mock the demigods...

maadyantah paripiya yasya caranaambhoja-sravat-projjvala

premaananda-mayaamritaadbhuta-rasaan sarve suparveditaah

brahmaadimsh cha hasanti naati bahu manyante mahaa-vaishnavaan

dhik-kurvanti ca brahma-yoga-vidushas tam gauram eva stumah (6)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 6: "When Lord Gaurangachandra's pure devotees (Maha Vaishnavas), who are worshiped by the demigods and all living entities in the universe, greedily drink the effulgent, splendid, ever-flowing and exquisitely joyful mellows of pure unalloyed love for the Holy Name and the Lotus Feet of Lord Gauranga, they become completely intoxicated. In that spiritually intoxicated condition, they laugh, playfully mock and condemn, and do not hold in high esteem even the most elevated demigods and the advanced impersonalistic yogis who do not worship and chant the Holy Names of Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga."

Verse 7: What did other incarnations do for us...

raksho-daitya-kulam hatam kiyad idam yogaadi-vartma-kriyaa-

maargo vaa prakati-kritah kiyad idam shrishty-aadikam vaa kiyat

mediny-uddharanaadikam kiyad idam premojjvalaayaa mahaa-

bhakter vartma-karim param bhagavatashaitanya-murtim stumah (7)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 7: "What actual benefit did the fallen souls of this world attain when Lord Ramachandra, Lord Nrisingha and many other incarnations of Godhead killed so many enemies and demons? How important is it to us in Kali Yuga that Lord Kapila and other incarnations revealed the paths of Sankhya and Astanga yoga? Is it so glorious that Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva respectively create, maintain and destroy the material universes? Is it so auspicious that Lord Varaha lifted and rescued the earth from the Garbhodaka Ocean which is filling half of the universe? We do not consider any of these activities to be very important. The most important, crucial and relevant benediction for all living entities in creation is that Lord Krishna appeared in His most merciful form in Kali Yuga as Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and revealed and freely distributed to all of us the splendor of the topmost and most confidential devotional service to Himself (Maha Bhakti), through the chanting of His own Holy Names: Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna. Thus the Incarnation and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu is the most  essential, beneficial, pertinent and applicable truth for all conditioned living entities in the past, present and future."

Chapter Two: Auspicious Obeisances to Lord Gauranga

Verse 8: Enchanting Smile like millions of moons...

namash chaitanya-chandraaya koti-chandraanana-tvishe

premaanandaabdhi-chandraaya chaaru-chandraamshu-haasine (8)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 8: "Let me offer my most heartfelt obeisances to Lord Gaurangachandra Whose lotus face is more splendid and radiant than millions of moons and whose lotus smile and complexion is more charming and enchanting than millions of rays of moonlight. Lord Gauranga is the transcendental moon that has just risen from the infinite ocean of blissful pure love for Himself. This divine moons of Lord Gauranga's Name and Form are causing great tidal waves in the ocean of pure love, overflowing it, flooding it in all directions and drowning all the souls in pure love for Lord Gauranga-Krishna."

Verse 9: Auspicious of all auspicious things...

yasyaiva paadaambuja-bhakti-labhyah

premaabhidhaanah paramah pumarthah

tasmai jagan-mangala-mangalaaya

chaitanya-chandraaya namo namas te (9)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 9: "O Supreme Lord Gaurangachandra, I offer my most humble and repeated obeisances unto Your Lotus Feet and Holy Name. They are the only means to achieve pure and eternal devotional service unto You. They are the most auspicious of all auspicious things in this world, granting the fifth and highest achievement of pure love to all living entities. Your Lotus Feet and Holy Names are the ultimate goals of all endeavors in life."

Verse 10: Lifting His most delicate lotus hands...

ucchair aasphaalayantam kara-charanam aho hema-danda-prakaandau

baahu proddhritya sat-taandava-tarala-tanum pundarikaayataaksham

vishvasyaamangala-ghnam kim api hari-harity unmadaananda-naadair

vande tam deva-cudaamanim atula-rasaavishta-chaitanya-chandram (10)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 10: "Lifting His most delicate lotus hands high into the air, raising the two gigantic golden rods of His lotus arms, trembling and moving His lotus feet as He ecstatically dances and roars loudly His own holy names, and calling out 'Hari! Hari!' in ecstatic and intoxicating bliss, Lord Gaurangachandra vanquishes the inauspiciousness of the whole universe, by glancing mercifully on everyone in all directions with His two large lotus-like eyes. I offer my most guileless obeisances to this Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Who is constantly absorbed in the mellows of His own pure devotional service and is thus the crest-jewel and the crown of all the incarnations of Godhead."

Verse 11: Personification of Blissful Pastimes...

aananda-lilaa-maya-vigrahaaya

hemaabha-divya-cchavi-sundaraaya

tasmai mahaa-prema-rasa-pradaaya

chaitanya-chandraaya namo namas te (11)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 11: "O Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gaurangachandra, O Lord Your transcendental Form and Name are the personification of Your unlimited blissful pastimes. O Lord Gaurahari, Your divine bodily complexion and radiance is supremely attractive and as splendid as molten gold. Therefore I offer my genuine obeisances unto Your Divine Lotus Feet and Holy Name which are the reservoir of all forms of pure devotional service."

Verse 12: The trickily concealed Lord...

pravaahair ashrunaam nava-jalada-kotir iva drishau

dadhaanam premaardhyaa parama-pada-koti-prahasanam

ramantam maadhuryair amrita-nidhi-kotir iva tanu-

cchataabhis tam vande harim ahaha sannyaasa-kapatam (12)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 12: "The lotus petal-like eyes of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu are like millions of rainclouds shedding torrents of tears of pure love of God. Lord Gauranga constantly experiences the infinite and unique bliss of His own pure love which makes Him laugh uproariously at the bliss of even the Vaikuntha planets created by His Own Self. His most charming handsomeness and His Holy Name are much more relishable than millions of nectar oceans. In this way I worship Lord Gaurahari who has trickily concealed Himself under the garb of a sannyasi in Kali Yuga to liberally and personally distribute His Holy Names of Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna specifically for the deliverance of all conditioned souls."

Chapter Three: Auspicious Benedictions about Lord Gauranga

Verse 13: Shoulders like a great lion...

simha-skandham madhura-madhura smera-ganda-sthalaantam

durvijneyojjvala-rasa-mayaashcarya-naanaa-vikaaram

bibhrat kaantim vikacha-kanakaambhoja-garbhaabhiraamaam

ekibhutam vapur avatu vo raadhayaa maadhavasya (13)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 13: "Lord Gauranga's shoulders are like that of a great lion and when He mildly smiles, the upturned corners of His mouth and cheeks look like the sweetest of all sweet things. His transcendental Form and Holy Name are the abodes of the most inconceivable, exotic and unlimited ecstatic symptoms of the pure mellows of His love. His transcendental bodily features are as splendid as the delicate whorl of a blossoming golden lotus flower. May Shri Gauranga, this combined single form of Shri Shri Radha Madhava and His most powerful Holy Name always protect you all!"

Verse 14: When Lord Gauranga sees...

drishtvaa maadyati nutanaambuda-chayam samvikshya barham bhaved

atyantam vikalo vilokya valitaam gunjaavalim vepate

drishte shyaama-kishorake 'pi chakitam dhatte chamatkaaritaam

ittham gaura-tanuh prachaarita-nija-premaa harih paatu vah (14)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 14: "When Lord Gauranga beholds fresh monsoon rainclouds He instantly becomes intoxicated like a madman with pure love for His own form of Lord Krishna. When Lord Gauranga sees a peacock feather or a gunja bracelet, He begins to tremble and becomes extremely agitated with love due to the remembrance of His own pastimes as Lord Krishna in Shri Vrindavana Dhama. When Lord Gauranga sees a dark-complexioned young boy, He thinks that He has just seen Lord Krishna and becomes filled with transcendental wonder and fear. In this most wonderful manner by assuming the golden form of Lord Gauranga, the expert Lord Krishna constantly preaches the glories of His pure unalloyed love for the chanting of His own Holy Names."

Verse 15: Most merciful moon from Shachi's womb...

kripaa-sindhuh sandhyaaruna-ruchira-chitraambara-dharo-

jjvalah purna-premaamrita-maya-mahaajyotir amalah

shachi-garbha-kshiraambudhi-bhava udaaraadbhuta-kalah

kalaanaathah shrimaan udayatu tava svaanta-nabhasi (15)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 15: "The most graceful moon of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu has risen from the supremely pure milk ocean of the womb of His own pure devotee mother, Shrimati Shachidevi. He is splendidly adorned in the supremely complete, incandescent, lustrous, spotless, brilliant and astonishing saffron garments which are the color of the rising sun. In this way Lord Gauranga is creating huge tidal waves in that ocean of pure love by the beauty of His Form and Holy Names. May that husband of the Goddess of fortune, Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name, Who are both oceans of mercy, permanently enter the sky of your heart and always shine there in full splendor."

Verse 16: Fixed number of Holy Names daily...

badhnan prema-bhara-prakampita-karo granthin kati-dorakaih

sankhyaatum nija-loka-mangala-hare-krishneti-naamnaam japan

ashru-snaata-mukhah svam eva hi jagannaatham didrikshur gataa-

yaatair gaura-tanur vilochana-mudam tanvan harih paatu vah (16)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 16: "Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu chants constantly a fixed number of His own Holy names daily in the form of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra for the supreme welfare of all the living entities who are His own parts and parcels. He chants with intense love and His hand trembles with ecstatic emotion as He touches the string tied to His waist for counting the holy names. While chanting He goes to see His own form of Lord Jagannatha with intense eagerness and His face becomes bathed in His pearl-like tears. May this transcendental form of Lord Gaurahari and the chanting of His Holy Name always maintain you all."

 Verse 17: Three moonlight benedictions...

antardhvaanta-chayam samasta-jagataam unmulayanti hathaat

premaananda-rasaambudhim niravadhi prodvelayanti balaat

vishvam shitalayanty ativa vikalam taapa-trayenaanisham

yusmaakam hridaye chakaastu satatam chaitanya-chandra-cchataa (17)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 17: "The magnificent and resplendent moonlight of the Divine Form and Holy Name of Lord Gaurangachandra eternally awards the souls with the following three supreme benedictions:

(1) The moonlight forcibly and instantly uproots and dissipates the dense darkness in the innermost core of the hearts of all the living entities in this world which has accumulated since time immemorial;

(2) The powerful moonlight expands the pure nectarean ocean of blissful love at every second;

(3) The moonlight permanently cools and soothes the burning hearts of all living entities which have become extremely agitated and disturbed due to the threefold miseries of material existence: miseries caused by one's own body and mind, miseries inflicted by other living entities and miseries imposed on us by the supernatural workings of the demigods."

May everyone constantly worship in their hearts this glorious moonlight of the Divine Form and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu!"

Chapter Four: Auspicious Glorification of Lord Gauranga's Devotees

Verse 18: Even Shukadeva cannot enter...

bhraantam yatra munishvarair api puraa yasmin kshamaa-mandale

kasyaapi pravivesha naiva dhishanaa yad veda no vaa shukah

yan na kvaapi kripaamayena cha nije'py udghaatitam shaurinaa

tasminn ujjvala-bhakti-vartmani sukham khelanti gaura-priyaah (18)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 18: "The splendid and superexcellent path of pure, unalloyed and confidential devotional service which has bewildered the greatest of sages and transcendentalists all over the universe from time immemorial, which even the most advanced intelligence sharpened by Vedic Knowledge has no power to enter, which even the great and exalted devotee Shrila Sukadeva Goswami was not able to fully understand and which was never directly exposed or revealed by even the most merciful Supreme Lord Shri Krishna, is the place where the most intimate swan-like devotees of the Supreme Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu happily perform and enjoy their pastimes while chanting His Holy Names."

Verse 19: Desire for liberation will not become bitter unless...

taavad brahma-kathaa vimukti-padavi taavan na tikti-bhavet

taavac chaapi vishrinkhalatvam ayate no loka-veda-sthitih

taavac chaastra-vidaam mithah kala-kalo naanaa-bahir-vartmasu

shri-chaitanya-padaambuja-priya-jano yaavan na drig-gocharah (19)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 19: "Discussion of and desire for the advanced stage of impersonal liberation will not become bitter and distasteful, the tight shackles of blind adherence to social, religious and Vedic conventional rules will not become slackened and the tumultuous speculative debates of the Vedic scholars on the merits of various useless spiritual paths will continue unabated unless one achieves the supreme good fortune of the direct audience of an intimate devotee who is like a bumblebee constantly drinking the nectar of the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu."

Verse 20: Topmost virtues are only found...

kva taavad vairaagyam kva cha vishaya-vaartaasu narake-

shvivodvegah kvaasau vinaya-bharam-aaphurya-lahari

kva taavat tejo ' laukikam atha mahaa-bhakti-padavi

kva saa vaa sambhaavyaa yad avakalitam gaura-gatishu (20)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 20: "Where is the actual renunciation? Where is the tranquil, serene and effortless indifference to the temptations of sense pleasure or the torments of hell? Where are the supremely graceful and incomparable waves of humility? Where is the exceptional spiritual prowess? Where is the supreme platform of unalloyed devotion? Where are these topmost virtues present in the same way as they are manifest in those most exalted souls who have made Lord Gauranga's Holy Name, Form, Pastimes and Abodes, the only goal of their lives."

Verse 21: Any person who simply sees Gauranga...

sakrin nayana-gochari-krita-tad-ashru-dhaaraakula-

praphulla-kamalekshana-pranaya-kaatara-shri-mukhah

na gaura-charanam jihaasati kadaapi lokottara-

sphuran-madhurimaarnavam nava-navaanuraagonmadah (21)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 21: "Lord Shri Gauranga's lovely and handsome moonlight lotus face is always blossoming, being overcome with intense loving mellows which spill from His beautiful lotus-like eyes in the form of millions of streams of tears. Any person, irrespective of his or her qualification, who even once sees His splendid lotus face which is the ocean of all sweetness becomes instantly overwhelmed, maddened and intoxicated with newer and newer ecstatic feelings of pure devotional love and such a person will never ever think or even dream of abandoning the supreme nectarean ocean of Lord Gauranga's Lotus Face and Holy Name."

Verse 22: One may visit millions of Holy Places...

aacharya dharmam paricharya vishnum

vicharya tirthaani vichaarya vedaan

vinaa na gaura-priya-paada-sevaam

vedaadi-dushpraapya-padam vidanti (22)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 22: "One may immaculately and perfectly follow the rules of varnashrama dharma and occupational duties, one may elaborately  and devotedly worship Lord Vishnu for thousands of lives, one may visit millions of holy pilgrimage places, or one may scrutinizingly study the Vedas for many many years, but if one does not serve the lotus feet of the dear devotees of Lord Gauranga who are constantly absorbed in chanting and preaching His Holy Names and Pastimes, then one will never be able to understand nor attain the transcendental abode of Navadvipa-Vrindavana which is far beyond the reach of the four Vedas."

Verse 23: The essence of all nectar will taste bitter...

apaaraavaaram ched amritamaya-paathodhim adhikam

vimathya praaptam syaat kim api paramam saaram atulam

tathaapi shri-gauraakriti-madana-gopaala-charana-

cchataa-sprishtaanaam tad vahati vikataam eva katutaam (23)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 23: "By intensely churning the infinite, limitless and shoreless ocean of the supremely pure nectar, one may attain the supremely sweet essence of all nectar, but even this topmost nectar, which has been achieved by the above incomparable endeavor, will taste bitter and unpalatable and appear trivial to those most fortunate souls who constantly relish the topmost divine nectar of the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Who is none other than the confidential golden Lord Madana Gopala Himself."

Verse 24: Supreme virtues of Lord Gauranga's devotees...

trinaad api nichataa sahaja-saumya-mugdhaakritih

sudhaa-madhura-bhaashitaa vishaya-gandha-thuthutkritih

hari-pranaya-vihvalaa kim api dhiranaalambhitaa

bhavanti kila sad-gunaa jagati gaura-bhaajaam ami (24)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 24: "Humbly thinking oneself more fallen than a blade of straw; natural, spontaneous, charming and gentle bodily features; sweet speech full of relishable nectar; repeatedly spitting at the insignificant desires for sense gratification; total disinterest and obliviousness to the temporary material affairs of this world; and supremely overwhelming love for Lord Gaurahari are the supreme transcendental virtues of the pure devotees of Lord Gauranga who constantly chant and relish His Holy Name."

Verse 25: You may worship millions of Gurus or Scriptures...

upaasataam vaa guru-varya-kotir

adhiyataam vaa shruti-shaastra-kotih

chaitanya-kaarunya-kataaksha-bhaajaam

sadyah param syaad dhi rahasya-laabhah (25)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 25: "You may devotedly worship millions of most exalted spiritual masters if you wish! You may scrutinizingly study millions of Vedic scriptures if you so desire! But certainly know it for sure that only those fortunate souls who have attained the most merciful sidelong glance of Lord Gauranga's pure devotees who are constantly chanting His Holy Names and Pastimes, will be able to quickly and factually understand the supremely confidential secret of all secrets which is pure love for Lord Gauranga-Krishna."

Verse 26: Multiplied millions to times...

aastaam vairaagya-kotir bhavatu shama-dama-kshaanti-maitraadi-kotis

tattvaanudhyaana-kotir bhavatu bhavatu vaa vaishnavi bhakti-kotih

koty-amsho 'py asya na syaat tad api guna-gano yah svatah-siddha aaste

shrimac-chaitanyachandra-priya-charana-nakha-jyotir aamoda-bhaajaam (26)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 26: "Let the quality of pure renunciation be multiplied millions of times! Let millions of exalted virtues beginning with peacefulness, sense control, tolerance and friendliness be multiplied millions upon millions of times! Let there be millions of attempts at meditation on the impersonal brahman! Let there be even devotional service to Lord Vishnu or Lord Krishna multiplied millions of times! All of these taken together do not equal even a millionth part of the unlimited multitude of the natural, constitutional and perfect transcendental qualities and virtues possessed by those great souls who constantly relish transcendental bliss from the divine splendor emanating from the toenails of the most intimate associates of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu who are continuously absorbed in the chanting of His Holy Names."

Verse 27: Leaping over the oceans and hills...

kechit saagara-bhudharaan api paraakraamanti nrityanti vai

kechid deva-purandaraadishu mahaa-kshepam kshipanto muhuh

aanandodbhata-jaala-vihvalatayaa te'dvaita-chandraadayah

ke ke noddhatavanta idrishi punash chaitanya-nrityotsave (27)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 27: "While chanting the most auspicious Holy Names of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, some of His intimate devotees dance so vibrantly and enthusiastically that they seem to leap and bound over the mountains, lands and oceans, and others repeatedly and intensely chide Indra and all the other demigods who are not so fortunate to get this mercy. In this way all the associates of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, headed by Lord Advaitachandra are again and again overwhelmed and agitated with extreme bliss and pure love during this supremely exuberant dancing festival of Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Names."

Verse 28: Never in the past, present or future...

bhuto vaa bhavitaapi vaa bhavati vaa kasyaapi yah ko'pi vaa

sambandho bhagavat-padaambuja-rase naasmin jagan-mandale

tat sarvam nija-bhakti-rupa-paramaishvaryena vikridato

gaurasyaiva kripaa-vijrimbhitatayaa jaananti nirmatsaraah (28)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 28: "In the whole creation there has never been in the past, nor is in the present, nor will there ever be in the future, this kind of magnanimous distribution of the science of the mellows of our relationship with God as awarded by Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name. Only the most simple, guileless and non-envious devotees will be able to penetrate into this most confidentially mysterious and supremely opulent form of pure devotional service related to the Pastimes and Holy Names of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. This becomes possible only and solely by the causeless manifestation of the mercy of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name in one's heart."

Verse 29: How to destroy egotim and vanity...

mahaa-purusha-maaninaam sura-munishvaraanaam nijam

padaambujam ajaanataam kim api garva-nirvaasanam

aho nayana-gocharam nigama-chakra-chudaa-chayam

shachi-sutam achikarat ka iha bhuri-bhaagyodayah (29)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 29: "The most puffed-up demigods and advanced sages thinking themselves to be the controllers and enjoyers fall into gross ignorance about the science of the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of the real Maha Purusha, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. This grievous egotism and vanity can only be destroyed if they achieve the magnified good fortune of personally seeing with their own eyes the supreme crest-jewel and goal of all the Upanishads, Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, the transcendental son of Shrimati Shachidevi, after pleasing Him through the chanting of His Holy Name."

Verse 30: Even the one who never performs any spiritual practice...

sarva-saadhana-hino'pi paramaashcharya-vaibhave

gauraange nyasta-bhaavo yah sarvaartha-purna eva sah (30)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 30: "Even a most degraded person, who is completely devoid of any desires to perform the practices of devotional service in the past, present and future, will attain and realize the supreme perfection and fulfillment of all goals in life if he or she simply becomes absorbed in the exclusive shelter of the supremely opulent Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name."

Chapter 5: Misfortune of Non-Devotees of Lord Gauranga

Verse 31: Even the unalloyed devotees of Lord Krishna are inglorious if...

apy aganya-mahaa-punyam ananya-sharanam hareh

anupaasita-chaitanyam adhanyam manyate matih (31)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 31: "Even those most exalted personalities who have taken pure unalloyed shelter of Lord Krishna due to their limitless and multitudinous spiritual pious credits remain inglorious in my estimation if they do not wholeheartedly and with full certitude worship Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name."

Verse 32: Doomed are those who...

kriyaasaktaan dhig dhig vikata-tapaso dhik cha yaminah

dhig astu brahmaaham vadana-pariphullaan jada-matin

kim etaan shochaamo vishaya-rasa-mattaan nara-pashun

na keshaanchil lesho’py ahaha milito gaura-madhunah (32)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 32: "Deplored and doomed are the so-called followers of Vedic rituals! Pathetic are the yogis who practice severe austerity! Condemned are the dull-witted materialistic and impersonalistic fools whose mouths only blossom with the words ‘I am brahman!' We do not even care to lament for these abominable animals in the guise of men who are intoxicated by the taste of  things other than Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name. Alas! Alas! They are in this most pitiable and unfortunate condition because they have not tasted even a drop of nectar emanating from Lord Gauranga Lotus Feet and Holy Name."

Verse 33: Dog's tail can never be straightened...

paashaanah parishechito’mrita-rasair naivaankurah sambhavet

laangulam saramaapater vivrinatah syaad asya naivaarjavam

hastaav unnayataa budhaah katham aho dhaaryam vidhor mandalam

sarvam saadhanam astu gaura-karunaabhaave na bhaavotsavah (33)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 33: "A huge stone, even if watered and nourished by pure nectar for millions of years will never sprout a single blade of grass. Even if a dog's tail is forcibly and carefully extended and stretched for a long period of time it will never become straight. An expert man may stretch and reach out his long arms as much as he likes, but he will never ever grasp the moon or any other planet. Similarly the most advanced transcendentalists even after performing all the various kinds of spiritual practices for millions of lives will never ever attain the supreme festival of pure, unadulterated and unalloyed love of God without achieving the mercy of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu through the chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes!"

Verse 34: Poorest of the poor...

avatirne gaura-chandre vistirne prema-saagare

suprakaashita-ratnaughe yo dino dina eva sah (34)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 34: "The universe has become extremely fortunate and auspicious due to the advent of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu in this degraded age of Kali Yuga (18th February 1486). Due to His divine advent the limitless ocean of His own pure love has expanded infinitely. Due to the splendid moonlight of His transcendental Divine Body and Holy Name, the most hidden and confidential jewel-like secrets of pure love which were residing at the bottom of that ocean are now clearly visible and accessible to one and all. Anyone who does not grab this rarest opportunity to pick up and possess these most precious jewels illuminated by the moonlight of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name certainly remains the poorest of the most poor in this world."

Verse 35: Drowning in an ochean of sin...

avatirne gaurachandre vistirne prema-saagare

ye na majjanti majjanti te mahaanartha-saagare (35)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 35: "The universe has become extremely fortunate and auspicious due to the advent of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu in this age of Kali Yuga. Due to His divine advent the limitless ocean of His own pure love has expanded infinitely. If someone does not dive deep and fully immerse oneself into this flooding ocean of pure love for Lord Gauranga by regularly chanting His Holy Name, they will certainly find themselves deeply sunk or drowned in the most horrible ocean of unlimited sinful desires, misdeeds and reactions."

 Verse 36: Impoverished and destitute...

prasaarita-mahaa-prema-piyusha-rasa-saagare

chaitanya-chandre prakate yo dino dina eva sah (36)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 36: "The supremely radiant golden moon of Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name have appeared and are causing gigantic tidal waves of nectarean mellows and are thus overflowing and expanding the great ocean of pure love, all over the universe. That ill-fated person who remains untouched by these all-pervading waves of the causeless mercy of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name certainly becomes the most destitute and impoverished of all people in this world even though he or she may possess unlimited material opulences."

Verse 37: Bereft of all consciousness...

achaitanyam idam vishvam yadi chaitanyam ishvaram

na viduh sarva-shaastra-jnaa hy api bhraamyanti te janaah (37)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 37: "Even the most learned and erudite scholars of the Vedic scriptures will repeatedly and perpetually continue to wander throughout the 8,400,000 species in the cycle of birth and death and remain devoid of all spiritual consciousness, if they do not accept Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and as the ultimate source of all consciousness in creation and if they do not embrace the regular chanting of His Holy Name."

Verse 38: Those who do know about Lord Gauranga...

svaadam svaadam madhurima-bharam sviya-naamaavalinaam

maadam maadam kim api vivashibhuta-vishrasta-gaatrah

vaaram vaaram vraja-pati-gunaan gaaya gaayeti jalpan

gauro drishtah sakrid api na yair durghataa teshu bhaktih (38)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 38: "Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu again and again deeply relishes the abundant sweetness of His own Holy Names. In doing so He again and again becomes maddened and intoxicated and His transcendental bodily limbs become loosened and overcome with pure love for Himself. In this way He again and again loudly sings and intensely remembers the divine qualities of His own form of Vrajapati Lord Krishna. Those who have never seen or heard about this Divine Form of Lord Gauranga or never chanted the Holy Name of this nectarean Lord Gauranga will find it impossible to attain pure devotional service even if they endeavour for it for millions of lives."

Verse 39: Non-devotees and love of God...

vinaa bijam kim naankura-jananam andho’pi na katham

prapashyen no pangur giri-shikharam aarohati katham

yadi shri-chaitanye hari-rasa-mayaashcharya-vibhave

’py abhaktaanaam bhaavi katham api para-prema-rabhasah (39)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 39: "A plant will never sprout and grow without seeds. A person will never see without eyes nor will he or she ever be able to climb hills and mountains without legs. Similarly the non-devotees will never ever be able to taste the supreme bliss of pure love of God without achieving the astonishingly opulent merciful sidelong glance of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name."

Verse 40: Rare for Lord Krishna's intimate Associates...

alaukikyaa premonmada-rasa-vilaasa-prathanayaa

na yah shri-govindaanuchara-sachiveshveshu kritishu

mahaashcharya premotsavam api hathaad daatari na yan

matir gaure saakshaat para iha sa mudho nara-pashuh (40)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 40: "The Supreme Lord Gauranga is the greatest philanthropist in this world who is constantly performing His transcendental pastime of forcibly distributing to one and all the supremely astonishing festival of His Holy Name, which is ever-expanding, strikingly wonderful and overwhelming, and which is rarely attained by even the principle and intimate associates of Lord Govinda-Krishna. Thus the person who does not establish his or her consciousness in the supremely magnanimous Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu through the chanting of His Holy Name is certainly most foolish and destitute and an animal in the guise of a human being."

Verse 41: Those who refuse to accept Lord Gauranga as God...

asankhyaah shruty-aadau bhagavad-avataaraa nigaditaah

prabhaavam kah sambhaavayatu parameshaad itaratah

kim anyat sva-preshthe kati kati sataam naapy anubhavaas

tathaapi shri-gaure hari hari na mudhaa hari-dhiyah (41)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 41: "The incarnations of the Supreme Lord Gauranga are described and glorified in the Shrutis and all the Vedic scriptures and are as countless as the waves in the ocean. Thus no one has the capacity or power to fully understand and glorify the source of all these incarnations, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga-Krishna. It is only the internal and confidential associates of Lord Gauranga who have repeatedly experienced, realized and established that Lord Gauranga is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His Holy Name in the only truth in creation who can do so. Alas! Alas! In spite of this irrevocable fact, the grossly ignorant materialistic fools of this world refuse to believe and accept Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus senselessly and insanely reject the chanting of His most merciful and magnanimous Holy Names and Pastimes which does not consider any offenses and which is thus the only hope for their deliverance."

Verse 42: Mahamaya is expert to conceal Lord Gauranga...

saakshaan-mokshaadikaarthaan vividha-vikritibhis tucchataam darshayantam

premaanandam prasute sakala-tanu-bhritaam yasya lilaa-kataakshah

naasau vedeshu gudho jagati yadi bhaved ishvaro gaurachandras

tat-praapto’nisha-vaadah shiva shiva gahane vishnu-maaye namaste (42)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 42: "The most playful sidelong glance of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu achieved through the chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes exposes the worthlessness of material benefits and the uselessness of the impersonal stage of liberation along with all its manifestations, by arousing the highest pure loving emotions in the hearts of all the embodied souls. But alas, since Lord Gauranga has been described only in a concealed manner in all the Vedic scriptures, the most unfortunate people of this world do not accept him as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus become rebellious atheists by not taking up the chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes. Oh Mahamaya, the inscrutable illusory potency of Lord Gauranga, alas, alas, I offer my respectful obeisances to you in great shock and wonder because you have so expertly and successfully bewildered all of them into rejecting their very own Lord Gauranga and the chanting of His most maganimous Holy Name and Pastimes which is the only hope for their deliverance."

Verse 43: Not acquainted with Lord Gauranga are doomed...

dhig astu kulam ujjvalam dhig api  vaagmitaam dhig yasho

dhig adhyayanam aakritim nava-vayah shriyam chaastu dhik

dvijatvam api dhik param vimalam aashramaadyam cha dhik

na chet parichitah kalau prakata-gaura-gopi-patih (43)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 43: "Condemned is his noble birth and high lineage! Doomed is his eloquence and artistic abilities! Pathetic is his fame and reputation! Denounced is his learning of the scriptures, his physical beauty and handsome youthfulness and his hard-earned wealth! Condemned is his advanced status as a brahmana and even his dutiful practices of discharging his occupational duties! Hopelessly condemned are all these people who even after taking birth in this rare Kali Yuga do not want to become acquainted with the golden Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gopipati Gauranga Mahaprabhu and the chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes."

Verse 44: Vaikuntha devotees are also amazed...

aho vaikuntha-sthair api cha bhagavat-paarshada-varaih

mahaashcharya-premojjvala-rasa-sadaavesha-vivashi-

kritaangaas tam gauram katham akrita-punyah pranayatu (44)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 44: "When the most exalted topmost associates of Lord Vishnu in the Vaikuntha planets behold the lotus faces of the most intimate devotees of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu headed by Shrila Vakreshvara Pandita, which are constantly overcome and agitated by their supremely astonishing and splendidly pure love for Lord Gauranga, the Vaikuntha associates experience great wonder and bliss and their bodily hairs stand on end being unable to fully comprehend these ever-fresh blissful ecstatic symptoms of Lord Gauranga's associates. This proves that it is the topmost fruit of all accumulated pious deeds to become an associate of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and chant His Holy Name and Pastimes."

Verse 45: Those who refuse to respect and worship Lord Gauranga...

dattvaa yah kam api prasaadam atha sambhaashya smita-shri-mukham

duraat snigdha-drishaa nirikshya cha mahaa-premotsavam yacchati

yeshaam hanta kutarka-karkasha-dhiyaam tatraapi naatyaadarah

saakshaat purna-rasaavataarini harau dushtaa ami kevalam (45)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 45: "When Lord Gauranga advented in this world, He infused a great festival of love in the hearts of all the living entities by distributing His causeless mercy to everyone in the form of His Holy Names by speaking with them, by mildly smiling at them, by showing His lotus face to them and affectionately glancing at them from afar. In this way Lord Gaurahari exclusively brought and distributed the personification of the full nectarean mellows of pure devotional service in the form of His Holy Names. Thus, those who despite having received so many magnificent gifts directly from Him still refuse to respect and gratefully worship Him as the Supreme Lord and do not desire to chant His Holy Name and Pastimes must be considered ill-fated, speculative and hard-hearted persons."

Chapter 6: Self-critcism for Not Accepting Lord Gauranga

Verse 46: I have been greatly deprived...

vanchito’smi vanchito’smi vanchito’smi na samshayah

vishvam gaura-rase magnam sparsho’pi mama naabhavat (46)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 46: "Oh I have been greatly deprived! Ah I have been totally bereaved! Oh I have been completely cheated! Although the infinite waves of the pure loving mellows of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His most auspicious Holy Name and Pastimes have inundated and plunged the entire world, alas, I have not been touched by even a drop of these waves."

Verse 47: What a pathetic calamity?

kair vaa sarva-pumartha-maulir akritaayaasair ihaasaadito

haa haa dhig mama jivanam dhig api me vidyaam dhig apy aashramam

yad daurbhaagya-bharaad aho mama na tat-sambandho-gandho’pyabhut (47)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 47: "Now that the pollen and the holy dust of the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu has touched this great planet, who, without even aspiring or endeavoring for it, has not attained the pure love of God which is the supreme crest-jewel achievement of all human endeavor! Alas! Alas! Due to the extreme negative power of my misfortune I have not attained even a scent of my relationship with Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name and Pastimes. Due to this pathetic calamity I say, 'To hell with my worthless life! To hell with my scriptural erudition! And to hell with my high status in society!'"

Verse 48: Not a drop has touched me...

utsasarpa jagad eva purayan

gaurachandra-karunaa-mahaarnavah

bindu-maatram api naapatan mahaa-

durbhage mayi kim etad adbhutam (48)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 48: "Although the massive ocean of the supreme compassion and mercy of Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name has manifested and swollen, flooding and covering the entire universe, I am so ill-fated that not even a fraction of a single drop of that mercy has fallen upon me. Alas alas, how has this extreme misfortune come upon me!"

Verse 49: Even the bhakti path is beset with thorns...

kaalah kalir balina indriya-vairi-vargaah

shri-bhakti-maarga iha kantaka-koti-ruddhah

haa haa kva yaami vikalah kim aham karomi

chaitanya-chandra yadi naadya kripaam karoshi (49)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 49: "In this most degraded age of Kali, my material senses have become very strong and powerful and thus they have become an army of my staunch enemies. The splendid path of pure devotional service has also become overgrown and blocked by millions of thorns and brambles in the form of pseudo-interpretations and impure association. Thus I have become very weak, agitated and bereft of all hope for my deliverance. Alas! Alas! What can I do? No one can help me in this desperate situation if the Supreme Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name do not bestow Their causeless mercy upon me."

Verse 50: Only hope after not seeing Lord Gauranga...

so’py aashcharya-mayah prabhur nayanayor yan naabhavad gocharo

etaavan mama taavad astu jagatim ye’nye py alankurvate

shri-chaitanya-pade nikhaata-manasas tair yat prasangotsavah (50)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 50: "The supremely astonishing Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu has never appeared before my sinful eyes and because of that I have never been able to taste even a drop of the nectarean mellows emanating from His Lotus Feet and Holy Name. In such a miserable situation I have only one hope. I simply pray that by some stroke of good fortune I can somehow attain the jubilant festival of the direct association of those exalted souls whose holy presence is now adorning this planet and whose hearts and minds have deeply entered into the stem of the Lotus Feet of Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu through the chanting of His Holy Names and Pastimes."

Verse 51: Only savior in our miserable situation...

durvaasanaa-nigada-shrinkhalitasya gaadham

klishyan mateh kumati-koti-kadarthitasya

gauram vinaadya mama ko bhaviteha bandhuh (51)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 51: "I am being forcibly engaged in millions of endless, impassable and horrible sinful activities. And I am tenaciously bound by heavy chains of my wicked desires. Thus I am being misled and afflicted in millions of different ways by my wicked consciousness. In this extremely destitute condition, the only real friends who can help me are Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name. Thus, They are my only real well-wishers and saviors in this world."

Verse 52: Giving up all useless attempts for spiritual practices...

haa hanta hanta paramoshara-chitta-bhumau

vyarthi bhavanti mama saadhana-kotayo’pi

sarvaatmanaa tad aham adbhuta-bhakti-bijam

shri-gaurachandra-charanam sharanam karomi (52)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 52: "Alas! Alas! Alas! I am doomed. Since my heart has become an extremely unfertile and barren desert due to my heinous offenses, millions of seeds of spiritual practices and pious deeds fail to sprout there in spite of my repeatedly sowing them. Thus I have now decided that I will give up all my useless attempts to engage in such spiritual practices and instead with all my full heart and endeavor, I shall plant in my heart the strikingly wonderful seed of pure devotional service of exclusive shelter to the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, which will certainly bear fruit in my despondent heart."

Verse 53: All seeds of devotion fail to sprout...

haa hanta chitta-bhuvi me paramosharaayaam

sad-bhakti-kalpa-latikaankuritaa katham syaat

hridy ekam eva param aashvasaniyamasti

chaitanya-naama kalayan na kadaapi shocyah (53)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 53: "Alas! Alas! I am doomed. Since my heart is like a supremely unfertile and barren desert due to my heinous offenses, the seed of the desire-creeper of pure unalloyed devotional service fails to sprout in my heart in spite of repeated sowing. In this situation, there is one and only one supreme consolation and hope for me. It is the calling out the most auspicious Holy Name of Gauranga, which is the most principle name of God (mukhyatamam) in all the Vedic scriptures. I am most certain that as soon as I chant the merciful Holy Name of Gauranga with feeling, their will be no more lamentation in my heart."

Verse 54: Fallen and drowning in the ocean of birth and death...

samsaara-duhkha-jaladhau patitasya kaama-

krodhaadi-nakra-makaraih kavalikritasya

durvaasanaa-nigaditasya niraashrayasya

chaitanya-chandra mama dehi padaavalambam (54)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 54: "I have fallen into the most painful and miserable ocean of repeated birth and death and am drowning in it. To make my situation worse, the sharks and crocodiles of lust, anger, greed, pride, envy, illusion etc. are devouring me alive. As if this is not enough, the strong chains of my wicked material desires are not allowing me to escape from this fateful situation and pulling me down faster. Thus I have been rendered desperately hopeless and shelterless. O Lord Gaurangachandra, in such an emergency, I am constantly calling out Your Holy Name with the hope that you will rescue me immediately. I know for certain that Your most munificent Lotus Feet and Holy Names are my only saviors and shelters in this world, Who can grant me eternal residence in Your Holy Abode of Shri Navadvipa-Vrindavana."

Verse 55: We will achieve that which is rare for even Shiva, Uddhava, Narada etc...

mrigyaapi saa shiva-shukoddhava-naaradaadyair

aashcharya-bhakti-padavi na daviyasi nah

durbodha-vaibhava-pate mayi paamare’pi

chaitanya-chandra yadi te karunaa-kataakshah (55)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 55: "O Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, the most astonishing and confidential platform of Your pure devotional service is constantly sought after but rarely achieved by even the great personalities like Shiva, Shukadeva, Uddhava, Narada etc. O Lord Gaurangachandra, even though this stage is so difficult to achieve for the above exalted personalities, I know that even a most fallen and unqualified fool like me will certainly achieve this topmost platform of pure love if You simply cast Your causelessly merciful sidelong glance upon me and in this way award me with a drop of taste to chant your Holy Name and Pastimes."

Verse 56: Where are those qualities in other incarnations?

kva saa nirankusha-kripaa kva tad-vaibhavam adbhutam

kva saa vatsalataa shaure yaadrik gaure tavaatmani (56)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 56: "Where is that causeless unrestricted mercy? Where are those superexcellent and astonishing opulences? Where is that quality of supreme affection for devotees? O Lord Krishna, descendent of Shura, where are these divine virtues present in the same way as they are manifest in Your Divine Form, Incarnation and Name of Lord Gauranga, Who is the magnanimous personification of all causeless mercy?"

Chapter 7: The Firm Conviction that Lord Gauranga is God

Verse 57: Please do not delay...

sva-tejasaa krishna-padaaravinde

mahaa-rasaaveshita-vishvam isham

kam apy ashesha-shruti-gudha-vesham

gauraangam angikuru mudha-chetah (57)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 57: "By the dint of the causeless mercy of His supremely Holy Name and Pastimes, Lord Gauranga has plunged the entire universe in the awesome nectar of the two Lotus Feet of His own form of Lord Krishna. This most confidential form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Gauranga, is inaccessible and hidden from the purview of even the unlimited Vedic knowledge. O foolish and ignorant mind, I thus beg you to please embrace the exclusive shelter of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu through the daily chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes without any further delay."

Verse 58: Let them worship only Lord Krishna...

kim api rasa-rahasyam gaura dhaamno namasyam (58)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 58: "If some great devotee wants to attain the supreme goal of life only by hearing about, meditating upon or chanting and glorifying or by performing the nine kinds of devotional service unto the Supreme Lord Krishna Murari, then let him or her do it and it may be good for him or her. However, for myself I will exclusively and one-pointedly worship, offer obeisances to and chant the Holy Name and Pastimes of the Supreme Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Who is the supreme transcendental abode and limitless ocean of the infinite confidential mellows of pure nectarean love for the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha Krishna."

Verse 59: Let them run after the four goals and servitorship to Lord Krishna...

isham bhajantu purushaartha-chatushtayaashaa

daasaa bhavantu cha vihaaya harer upaasyaan

kinchid rahasya-pada-lobhita-dhir aham tu

chaitanya-chandra-charanam sharanam karomi (59)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 59: "Some great souls may worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead with the intense desire to attain the four basic goals of life: material piety and religiosity, economic development, sense gratification and liberation. Other more advanced and exalted souls may reject all such forms of worship and simply become the most fortunate servants of Lord Krishna. However, my mind, heart and soul are only interested in and extremely greedy to attain the most confidential secret of pure love of God which can be only obtained by taking accepting shelter of Lord Gaurangachandra's Lotus Feet through the constant chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes."

Verse 60: All my shame has gone...

nishthaam praaptaa vyavahriti-tatir-laukiki vaidiki yaa

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 60: "My staunch faith in the strict discharge of the Vedic injunctions and devotion to the performance of everyday activities that are required to maintain the body and soul together, my natural and innate tendency to be absorbed in material bodily activities and my embarrassment and shame to loudly laugh and ecstatically sing and dance whilst chanting the Holy Names, have now all been forcibly stolen away by the most powerful golden thief Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and by the nectar of His exuberant Holy Name and Pastimes."

Verse 61: Who is this Divine Personality?

saandraanandojjvala--rasamaya-prema-piyusha-sindhoh

ko’yam devah kanaka-kadali-garbha-gauraanga-yashtish

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 61: "Who is this divine personality Lord Gauranga Who is showering millions of nectar oceans of the profoundly blissful and splendidly beautiful mellows of sweet and pure unalloyed love for Himself from the corners of His most compassionately glistening lotus-like eyes? Lord Gauranga is none other than the Supreme Personality of Godhead Whose fair and golden-complexioned form is as lustrous and splendid as a golden young plantain tree. Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name has suddenly and vehemently caused my heart to become so irrevocably and intensely devoted to His lotus feet and transcendental pastimes."

Verse 62: Every home in Navadvipa-Puri

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 62: "The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu has personally and most mercifully appeared in this Kali Yuga along with His topmost abode of Shri Navadvipa Dhama and His divine four-syllable Gaura Gopala Mantra: 'Gauranga'. His complexion is millions of times more radiant than molten gold and He is the personified form of the supremely magnificent mellows of pure love for Himself and His Holy Name. Shri Navadvipa Dhama is thus the topmost spiritual planet unlimitedly more sweet and nectarean than any other Vaikuntha planet because every home in Navadvipa constantly celebrates the great festivals of pure loving devotional service to Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name and Pastimes. I pray that my mind constantly revels and rejoices in this transcendental abode of Shri Navadvipa Dhama which is constantly resounding with the Divine Holy Name of Lord Gauranga."

Verse 63: Let the scripture say whatever they like...

yat tad vadantu shaastraani yat tad vyaakhyaantu taarkikaah

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 63: "Let all the Vedic scriptures declare whatever they like! Let all the speculative philosophers debate, explain and interpret whatever they like! Let even the learned devotees of Lord Krishna say and comment whatever they want! Whatever they say, the supreme nectar of Lord Gauranga's Lotus Feet and Holy Name will always remain my life and soul. No one can ever shake me from this topmost conviction and truth."

Verse 64: Even if I am offered Vaikuntha...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 64: "Even if the most rarely achieved mystic perfections would directly fall into the palm of my hand, even if the most exalted demigods from the heavenly planets personally approach me to become my direct servants, and even if I inadvertently achieve a four-armed form as an eternal associate of Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntha, my mind would still not swerve, divert or be distracted from Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name for even a moment."

Verse 65: Better to stay in a burning cage...

vaaso me varam astu ghora-dahana-jvaalaavali-panjare

paadaambhoja-rasa-cchataa yadi manaak gaurasya no rasyate (65)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 65: "I would prefer to willingly reside in the most ghastly and dreadful burning cage full of fire than to associate in any way with those ill-fated people who are even slightly neglectful of or even a little averse to the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. My heart has absolutely no desire to even achieve eternal residence in Vaikuntha if for a single moment I cannot relish the delectable flavor and enjoy the soothing shade of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu Lotus Feet and His Holy Name."

Verse 66: I may get siddhis or become universally famous...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 66: "I may receive the benediction of immense fame and thus become renowned all over the universe, I may achieve the power to manifest greatly astonishing mystic perfections, or by worshiping Vishveshvara Lord Vishnu I may even spontaneously attain a handsome four-armed spiritual form like His, still, my heart will consider all of them utterly insignificant if they lead me away even for a moment from devotional service to Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu which is performed by the chanting of His Holy Name and Pastimes."

Verse 67: May I incessantly chant Your Holy Name...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 67: "O Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, O supremely merciful One, O extremely magnanimous One, you are the most astonishing abode of divine love Who overwhelms and floods the hearts of all living entities with unlimited mellows of transcendental happiness. O Lord, Your supreme Holy Name of Gauranga is an infinite ocean of transcendental virtues and Your Form is the personification of all the mellows of devotion. O Lord, You are extremely fond of chanting Your own dear Holy Names. The sole and intense prayer in my heart is that I may achieve the ambrosial taste to incessantly and tirelessly chant and glorify Your Holy Names and Pastimes and in this way blissfully pass my balance life in this material world."

Verse 68: When will I guilessly worship You?

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 68: "O Lord Krishna, descendant of the Shura dynasty, Your transcendental golden Holy Form and Name of Lord Gauranga is the supreme bestower of the most exalted love for You. Thus this golden Form and Name is the most valuable treasure and the exclusive life and soul of all the fortunate and exalted devotees in the universe. When will I wholeheartedly and guilelessly worship and love this golden form of Gauranga through the chanting of your Holy Name and Pastimes? When will the brilliant splendor of the jewel-like toenails of Shrimati Radharani's lotus feet suddenly and spontaneously manifest in the innermost core of my heart by the causeless mercy of the direct realization of this exquisitely beautiful golden Divine Form and Holy Name of the Supreme Absolute Truth Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu?"

Verse 69: The supremely blissful Abode

uddaama-daamanaka-daama-ganaabhiraama-

maaraamaraamam aviraama-grihita-naamaa

kaarunya-dhaama kanakojjvala-gaura-dhaama

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 69: "I deeply meditate on the Holy Name and Form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Who is the ultimate reservoir of the topmost ecstatic symptoms of love of God. He adorns Himself with the garland of exotically blossomed damanaka flowers and thus enchants and pleases the hearts and minds of all living entities in creation. He enjoys His transcendental pastimes in a beautiful secluded garden while being incessantly absorbed in the chanting of His own Holy Names. Thus Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are the supreme abodes of compassion and affection and His fair complexion is as effulgent as molten gold."

 Verse 70: Puri Dhaam Pastimes...

sadaa range nilaachala-shikhara-shringe vilasato

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 70: "I fervently pray that my mind may always remain deeply connected and absorbed in remembrance of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name, Who is millions of times more attractive than the personified form of Cupid. Lord Gauranga is the crest-jewel of all sannyasis, Whose large and delicate lotus-like eyes are like two bumblebees constantly and rejoicingly drawn to the glistening lotus flower of Lord Jagannatha's face in the supremely festive abode of Shri Nilachala Jagannatha Puri Dhaam. In this way Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu performs His transcendental pastimes in the mood of the doe-eyed gopis, always tossing and floating in the intoxicating waves of ecstatic love for Himself and His own Holy Name and Pastimes."

 Verse 71: Saffron-clothed Hari

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 71: "I constantly take shelter and firmly embrace within the core of my heart that golden exquisitely-shaped Form and Holy Name of Lord Hari known as Gauranga, Who is now adorned by the saffron garments of a sannyasi, which are more luminous than the color of the rising sun. His supremely handsome form is adorned by the pearl-like tears flowing from the petals of His lotus-like eyes. His supremely enchanting Cupid-like form is constantly overwhelmed with the ecstasy of chanting His own Names, thus being gracefully decorated by His erect bodily hairs."

Verse 72: Cupid, Ganges, Moon, Nectar, Desire-tree, Mother...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 72: "The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name are unlimitedly more beautiful than personified Cupid, infinitely more purifying than the celestial Ganges, more soothing and cooling than millions of moons, sweeter and more nectarean than the very essence of the supreme madhvika nectar, supremely more generous and charitable than a gigantic celestial desire-tree and millions of times more affectionate and loving than a mother. When will the Divine Form and Holy Name of this supremely magnanimous Lord Gauranga-Hari manifest in my heart during deep meditation and when will He lovingly and permanently place His lotus feet in my heart?"

Verse 73: Only Lord Who makes the whole world rejoice...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 73: "May I become extremely endeared to the supremely pure Form and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Whose luminous garments and golden bodily luster, eclipse the beauty of fresh lightning flashes. His hips are adorned with saffron cloth which is the color of a charming manjistha flower. He is the only Lord Who personally and freely gives Himself to His devotees through the chanting of His most merciful Holy Name of Gauranga. He makes the whole world rejoice by constantly, abundantly and bountifully awarding the pure and the sweetest of the sweet loving nectarean mellows of His own  Love to all His part and parcels in the whole creation without any kind of discrimination through the medium of His merciful Holy Names, Pastimes and sidelong Glances."

 Verse 74: Magnanimous Generosity...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 74: "The luminous splendor of the golden complexion of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu which is revealed in our hearts through the chanting of His most divine Holy Name and Pastimes condemns millions upon millions of Cupids, the opulent and moonlike radiance of His Lotus Face eclipses and overshadows millions upon millions of rising autumn moons and the magnanimous generosity of His Holy Name and Form minimizes and belittles millions upon millions of the most potent desire trees. Oh, when will the soft and delicate Lotus Feet of Lord Gauranga manifest in my heart? Such a good fortune cannot be attained even by the dint of millions of pious deeds accumulated over millions of past lives, but only by the causeless mercy of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name."

 Verse 75: Three moonlight benedictions...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 75: "The splendid and effulgent moonlight of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name violently, forcibly and totally uproots the darkness and ignorance in the hearts of the entire world,  forcibly and constantly agitates the nectar ocean of the bliss of pure love causing gigantic tidal waves of ecstasy, and mollifies, pacifies and cools the extremely virulent threefold miseries of material existence which are burning day and night in the hearts of all the living entities. I pray that this divine moonlight of the Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name brilliantly shine in my heart perpetually."

Verse 76: Changing at every second...

kshanam kshinah pinah kshanam ahaha saashruh kshanam atha

kshanam smerah shitah kshanam anala-taptah kshanam api

kshanam dhaavan stabdhah kshanam adhika-jalpan kshanam aho

kshanam muko gaurah sphuratu mama deho bhagavatah (76)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 76: "Fully plunged in Shrimati Radharani's mood of separation, Lord Gauranga becomes emaciated and devastated. At one moment thinking that Lord Krishna has appeared before him, Lord Gauranga becomes swollen with happiness, next moment He sheds tears of joy. Sometimes He smiles and at other times He becomes very cool. Burning in the fire of separation from His own form of Lord Krishna, at times He becomes very feverish, and assuming that He has seen Lord Krishna from a distance He runs after Him from time to time. Considering that He has just touched Krishna, He sometimes becomes stunned with bliss, at one moment He keeps on talking as if Krishna were present and at the next moment He becomes suddenly silent as if He has lost Krishna's association. I humbly entreat this Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu to always manifest these transcendental pastimes in my mind, heart and body when I chant His Holy Names."

Verse 77: No consideration of qualification or time...

paatraapaatra-vichaaranam na kurute na svam param vikshate

deyaadeya-vimarshako na hi na vaa kaala-pratikshah prabhuh

sadyo yah shravanekshana-pranamana-dhyaanaadinaa durlabham

datte bhakti-rasam sa eva bhagavaan gaurah param me gatih (77)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 77: "Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name do not deliberate or consider whether a person is a qualified recipient or not for Their mercy. Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name do not calculate to whom They should give Their mercy and to whom They should not. Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name never wait for an appropriate time to give Their mercy, instead They distribute Their mercy constantly to one and all. The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name instantly, causelessly and indiscriminately award the purest mellows of loving devotional service which are rare and difficult to attain even by the sincere and prolonged performance of shravana bhakti (hearing and chanting the name and message of Lord Krishna), seeing the Deity of Lord Krishna, offering obeisances, meditating or following a host of other spiritual practices. May that most merciful Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and the chanting of His most auspicious Holy Name become the sole shelter and destination of my life."

Verse 78: The ultimate hope for the greatest sinners...

paapiyaan api hina-jaatir api duhshilo’pi dushkarmanaam

simaapi shvapachaadhamo’pi satatam durvaasanaadhyo’pi cha

durdesha-prabhavo’pi tatra vihitaavaaso’pi duhsangato

nashto’py uddhrita eva yena kripayaa tam gauram eva stumah (78)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 78: "Even the most wretched of sinners, even those who take birth in an abominable family, even the men of the basest character, even those who are in the vanguard of sinful activity, even the most cruel dog-eaters, even the most evil-minded people, even those whose hearts are constantly overwhelmed by wicked and sinful desires, even those born in or residing in sinful countries and even those whose character has been destroyed by evil association, can be rescued, purified and delivered by the causeless mercy of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu attained through the chanting of His most auspicious Holy Name and Pastimes. Let me therefore take full shelter of my most munificent Lord Gauranga and the ceaseless chanting of His causelessly merciful Holy Names!"

Verse 79: Lord Krishna has left Vrindavana and come to Puri

kalinda-tanayaa-tate sphurad-amanda-vrindaavanam

vihaaya lavanaambudheh pulina-pushpa-vaatim gatah

dhritaaruna-patah parihrita-supita-vaasaa haris

tirohita-nija-cchavih prakata-gaurimaa me gatih (79)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 79: "Forsaking the most charming and enchanting Vrindavana forest which sparkles on the shore of the river Kalindi or Yamuna, the Supreme Lord Hari has entered into the beautiful flower grove in the garden in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam by the shore of the salt-water ocean and assumed the form of Lord Gauranga. In Kali Yuga, in this way, Lord Krishna has personally rejected His shiningly illustrious yellow garments and accepted the radiant saffron cloth of a sannyasi. Lord Krishna has unmanifested and concealed His blackish bodily luster and manifested His supreme golden complexion in this supremely divine Form of Lord Gauranga. Thus the Divine Form and Holy Name of Gauranga Mahaprabhu are the only sustenance of our lives."

Chapter 8: Instructions to the People to Worship Lord Gauranga

Verse 80: I fervently beseech you...

are mudhaa gudhaam vichinuta harer bhakti-padavim

daviyasyaa drishtyaapy aparichita-purvaam munivaraih

na vishrambhash chitte yadi yadi cha daurlabhyam iva tat

parityajyaashesham vrajata sharanam gaura-charanam (80)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 80: "Oh most foolish and ignorant people, I fervently beseech you to please seek out and attain the platform of the most pure and confidential Hari Bhakti (pure devotion) bestowed by Lord Gauranga specifically through the chanting of His most merciful Holy Names. This platform has remained inaccessible and unknown to even the most exalted ancient sages even after their long search for millions of lives because of the most confidential nature of the Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name, which is the secret of all secrets. If you think it is too difficult to attain this pure love and you do not have the required patience in your heart to endure the difficulties in the performance of the spiritual practices, then please for God's sake abandon all other misconceptions and simply rush towards the exclusive shelter of the Lotus Feet of Lord Gauranga by chanting His Holy Name."

Verse 81: Lifting His delicate budding lotus hands...

dadhan murdhany urdhvam mukulita-karaambhoja-yugalam

galan-netraambhobhih snapita-mridu-ganda-sthala-yugam

dukulenaavitam nava-kamala-kinjalka-ruchinaa

param jyotir gauram kanaka-ruchira-chauram pranamata (81)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 81: "Sometimes Lord Gauranga lifts His budding and delicate lotus hands and places them on his head in great ecstasy of pure devotion. His lotus eyes constantly shower torrents of pearl-like tears completely bathing His soft and delicate pair of cheeks. He is adorned in lustrous garments which are as enchanting as a newly blossomed whorl of a lotus flower. His illustrious molten golden complexion robs the splendor of pure gold. I offer my prostrated and repeated obeisances to that Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His most generous Holy Name, Which is the only way to approach Him."

Verse 82: Even if you meditate on the Holy Names and Form of Lord Krishna...

bhraatah kirtaya naama gokula-pater uddaama-naamaavalim

yad vaa bhaavaya tasya divya-madhuram rupam jagan-mangalam

hanta prema-mahaa-rasojjvala-pade naashaapi te sambhavet

shri-chaitanya-mahaaprabhor yadi kripaa-drishtih paten na tvayi (82)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 82: "Oh my dear brother, even if you chant and sing the most potent, powerful and wonderful Holy Names of Lord Krishna and even if you meditate deeply on the transcendental, nectarean and brilliant form of Lord Krishna which creates auspiciousness for the entire world, please understand that you still cannot hope to attain the supreme and effulgent platform of the most confidential nectarean mellows of pure love of Shri Shri Radha-Krishna if the causelessly merciful glance of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name does not fall upon you."

Verse 83: Please do not act in this reckless manner...

aye na kuru saahasam tava hasanti sarvodyamam

janaah parita unmadaa hari-rasaamritaasvaadinah

idam tu nibhritam shrinu pranaya-vastu prastuyate

yad eva nigameshu tat patir ayam hi gaurah param (83)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 83: "O my dear brother, I beg you please, do not act in this reckless and impetuous way. Because you are remaining aloof from the shelter of Lord Gauranga Lotus Feet and Holy Name, the pure devotees who have become intoxicated and maddened by drinking the nectar of the mellows of pure devotional service to Lord Gauranga, are everywhere laughing at all your endeavors. O brothers and sisters, please listen attentively! I will confidentially reveal to you this supreme secret: Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the Master of all living entities in creation and He and His Holy Name are the supremely loving objects of all worship as per the verdict of all the revealed Vedic scriptures."

Verse 84: Has the Name of Gauranga not entered your ears?

jnaanaadi-vartma-viruchim vraja-naatha-bhakti-

ritim na vedmi na cha sad-guravo milanti

haa hanta hanta mama kah sharanam vimudha-

gauro haris tava na karna-patham gato’sti (84)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 84: "O bewildered fool, why do you say that you have no power and capacity to understand the path of pure devotional service to Lord Vrajanatha Krishna, which makes one totally averse to the paths of impersonal speculation and non-devotional yoga? O unfortunate one why do you say that you have no contact and association with saintly and bonafide spiritual masters? And why do you repeatedly wail that you do not have anyone to take shelter of in this world? Has the supremely merciful Holy Name and Pastimes of Lord Gauranga never ever entered your ears? This supreme Name and Pastimes of Lord Gauranga are the ultimate goals and resting places for all your endeavors and thus you should immediately take full shelter of chanting and meditating on these undiscriminatingly charitable glories of the Holy Name and Pastimes of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu."

Verse 85: Never try to become God...

vrithaavesham karmasv apanayata vaartaam api manaak

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 85: "Please throw far away all useless material duties and activities and never ever indulge your mind in the dull gossip of this world. I beg you to kindly never allow even a single word of the monistic, impersonalistic and Advaitic theories of becoming one with God to ever enter your ears. Kindly reject all the illusions about your material body, family and about all the temporary paraphernalia in relation to them. Please take exclusive shelter of the causeless mercy emanating and flowing from Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name and thus attain pure love for the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna, which is the supreme crest-jewel of all human endeavors."

Verse 86: Please spit on the bliss of the heavenly planets...

alam shaastraabhyaasair alam ahaha tirthaatanikayaa

trinam-manyaa dhanyaah shrayata kila sannyaasi-kapatam

natantam gauraangam nija-rasa-madaad ambudhi-tate (86)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 86: "What is the use of scrutinizingly studying many scriptures? What is the use of painstakingly roaming on pilgrimage to millions of holy places? Please constantly fear the ferocious tigress of sense gratification. Please distastefully spit on the opulences of the heavenly planets. Please always understand that material acquisitions are as worthless as a handful of straw and abandon the attempt to vainly chase after them. Please become supremely fortunate by taking whole-hearted shelter of the chanting of the glories of the Holy Names and Pastimes of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. Lord Gauranga is dressed in the spotless garments of a sannyasi and He dances ecstatically in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam by the sea shore, intoxicated by tasting the nectar of His own Holy Names."

Verse 87: Give up the dreary yogic paths...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 87: "What benefit will you achieve from practicing the arduous and dreary yogic paths? Give them up because they are all useless! Instead I beg you to please try to plunder the treasure-house of pure devotional service constantly emanating from the Lotus Feet and Holy Names of Lord Gauranga-Krishna. This is the culmination of all achievements in life. If you really aspire to attain the supremely wonderful festival of this pure love for Lord Krishna, which even Shiva, Brahma and all the demigods cannot attain, then please become lovingly and fanatically devoted to the most fathomless and magnanimous Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name."

Verse 88: The secret how to achieve Radha's feet...

tathaa tathotsarpati hridy akasmaat

raadhaa-padaambhoja-sudhaamshu-raashih (88)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 88: "As much as an elevated person with an accumulation of unlimited pious deeds attains an intimate devotional relationship to the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, only to that extent and proportion the supreme ocean of the nectar of the Lotus Feet of Shrimati Radharani spontaneously and effortlessly floods his or her heart."

Verse 89: The duty of the advanced devotees...

Therefore the elevated and progressive devotees should constantly meditate, take exclusive shelter, become intensely attached, and become constantly overwhelmed and intoxicated with pure love for Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu by loudly singing His spotless Holy Name and Glories."

Verse 90: How to preach Lord Gauranga's Holy Name...

dante nidhaaya trinakam padayor nipatya

kritvaa cha kaaku-shatam etad aham bravimi

he saadhavah sakalam eva vihaaya duraad

gauraanga-chandra-charane kurutaanuraagam (90)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 90: "I humbly take a piece of straw between my teeth and praise you while falling down and beseechingly clasping your feet. Oh Sir, you are such a great and brilliant man, there is no one greater than you, you are so intelligent, rich and beautiful. I earnestly adore and applaud your good qualities hundreds of times. You may ask me, 'Why are you so humble? Why are you flattering me? What is your intention, tell me?' I reply: 'My dear Sir, you are a great sadhu and gentleman. You have learned and been educated in so many nice things, I know, but reject them please, whatever unwanted and hogwash things are there in your brain, please kick them out, throw them far away and direct all your love and affection to the the most merciful Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name and in this way become an ardent devotee of His lotus feet. This will the supreme perfection of your life."

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 91: "Aho, liberation from the cycle of birth and death is not so difficult to attain, and pure devotional service to Lord Krishna which is very rare can also be achieved somehow, but the rarest and the most confidential summit and goal of all achievement is the causeless mercy of the Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name, since it is rarely attained even in the most elevated Vaikuntha planets in the spiritual world."

Verse 92: How to develop forgiveness and mercy?

bhajantu chaitanya-padaaravindam

Verse 92: "Please dedicatedly worship the most auspicious Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and become instantly and fully imbued with nectarean mellows of pure devotional service to Him. In this way, you will delight and astonish the three worlds with your extraordinary and charming sweetness, good fortune, compassion, tolerance and other virtues. All the highest transcendental qualities will effortlessly manifest in your body simply by taking shelter of the topmost process of worshiping the supremely compassionate Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu through the chanting of His glorious Holy Names and Pastimes."

Verse 93: If you desire these three topmost things...

samsaara-sindhu-tarane hridayam yadi syaat

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 93: "If your heart is firmly fixed on swimming across and crossing over the miserable and impassable ocean of repeated birth and death, if your mind and senses want to constantly rejoice and delight in the nectarean mellows of sankirtana (loud chanting and singing of the Lord's holy names) and if your heart and soul yearns and aches to constantly swim and sport in the ocean of pure love for the Lord, then you should unhesitatingly, immediately and exclusively take full shelter of Lord worshiping Gaurangachandra's His Lotus Feet and Holy Name."

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 94: "One may try very hard and wander throughout the whole universe to seek out and achieve real knowledge, renunciation, devotion and other exalted virtues, but one will never be able to achieve these virtues to that fullest extent like those which are present in the lives of the most exalted devotees who have accepted the two Lotus Feet and Holy Name of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu as their exclusive property and possession in life."

 Verse 95: Bereft of consciousness...

achaitanyam idam vishvam yadi chaitanyam ishvaram

bhajet sarvato mrityur upaasyam amarottamaih (95)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 95: "Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name are devotedly worshiped by even the immortal residents of Vaikuntha and also by the temporarily immortal demigods. Thus if this dull and lifeless world does not worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu by the chanting of His divinely conscious Holy Name and Pastimes, then it will eternally remain devoid of all consciousness and will find death, rebirth and destruction staring at it at every turn."

Verse 96: King Indra becomes like a servant...

aashaa yasya pada-dvandve chaitanyasya mahaaprabhoh

tasyendro daasavad bhaati kaa kathaa nripa-kitake (96)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 96: "The supremely opulent and powerful King Indra of the heavenly planets becomes humbled as a menial servant of that most fortunate person who simply aspires to attain a drop of the infinite nectar and shelter of the two Lotus Feet of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name. How then can we commit the foolhardy attempt of comparing the tiny and insignificant insect-like kings or rich men of this world to this most exalted devotee of Lord Gauranga who is constantly relishing the nectar of Lord Gauranga's Holy Name and Pastimes?"

Verse 97: Why should one beg for a silver piece?

yasyaashaa krishna-chaitanye nripa-dvaari kim arthinah

chintaamanim-chayam praapya ko mudho rajatam vrajet (97)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 97: "Why should even a beginner devotee who aspires to attain service of the exalted and most opulent Lord Gauranga (Lord Shri Krishna Chaitanya) and His Holy Names go to beg for wealth at the door of a king or a rich man in this world? If he or she would do so then it would be as foolish and senseless as a person in possession of priceless wish-fulfiling chintamani jewels (i.e. the Holy Names of Lord Gauranga) trying to travel a great distance with much trouble just to procure an insignificant silver trinket (i.e. perishable and temporary material wealth)."

Verse 98: Let the yogis remain in their solitary caves...

dhyaayanto giri-kandareshu bahavo brahmaanubhuyaasate

yogaabhyaasa-paraash cha santi bahavah siddhaa mahi-mandale

vidyaa-shaurya-dhanaadibhish cha bahavo jalpanti mithyoddhataah

ko vaa gaura-kripaam vinaadya jagati premonmado nrityatu (98)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 98: "Many gyanis may remain in the solitary caves of the mountains absorbed in deep meditation on the impersonal brahman, many great yogis may diligently follow the regimen of yoga and attain many astonishing mystic powers to display in this world, and many others, deceitfully and egotistically intoxicated by high learning, heroic strength, wealth, and other false opulences of this world, may speak much nonsense, but no one in this world will be able to attain the ecstasy of pure love of God and dance in bliss, unless they receive the causeless mercy of the most munificent Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name."

Verse 99: Become secure about the safety of family members...

kaashi-vaasaan api na ganaye kim gayaam maargayaamo

muktih shuktibhavati yadi me kah paraartha-prasangah

traasaabhaasah sphurati na mahaa-raurave’pi kva bhitih

stri-putraadau yadi kripayate deva-devah sa gaurah (99)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 99: "If the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name are causelessly merciful unto me then why should I consider the impersonalists of Varanasi to be very important and why should I go on a pilgrimage to Gaya to offer oblations to my ancestors? If Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are merciful to me then my personal liberation does not hold as much weight as even a fraction of an ounce to me what to speak of the petty worldly achievements of religiosity, economic development and sense gratification, the three other secondary goals of life. If Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are merciful upon me, I will not feel a glimpse of distress even if I have to go to the most horrible Maharaurava hell. If Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are merciful unto me then I will have absolutely no fear and anxiety about the well-being of my wife, children, friends and relatives."

Chapter Nine: The Most Exalted Position of Lord Gauranga

Verse 100: The maddened young Lion...

matta-keshari-kishora-vikramah

ko’pi divya-nava-hema-kandali-

komalo jayati gaura-chandramaah (100)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 100: "All Glories to the supremely delicate, handsome and moonlike Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu! He is as powerful, gallant, valiant and heroic as a maddened young lion and as divine and splendrous as a young golden plaintain tree. Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name have flooded and drowned the entire universe in the gigantic ocean of pure love for Themselves."

 Verse 101: Seven ever-fresh features...

saundarye kaama-kotih sakala-jana-samaahlaadane chandra-kotir

vaatsalye maatri-kotis tridasha-vitapinaam kotir audaarya sare

gaambhirye’mbhodhi-kotir madhuramani sudhaa-kshira-maadhvika-kotir

gauro devah sa jiyaat pranaya-rasa-pade darshitaashcharya-kotih (101)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 101: "All Glories to the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His divine Holy Name, Who are:

(1) more handsome and beautiful than millions of Cupids;

(When Cupid arises in the heart, the heart is pierced by the sharp painful arrows of lust, anger and greed but when the beauty of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name arises in our heart the heart is forever freed from the most painful miseries of material existence for this shower of nectar.)

(2) more pleasing, soothing and mollifying to all living entities than millions of Moons;

(Moonlight is available only in the night and the full moon is only available twice a month. Also the moon has some black spots. But the moonlight emanating from the transcendental Divine Form and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga is more brilliant and soothing than the moonlight of millions of full moons combined together. This moonlight has no black spots and is also constantly shining on all the living entities during the day and night.)

(3) supremely more affectionate than millions of Mothers;

(A mother is specially affectionate to only her child but Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are supremely and equally affectionate to all living entities in this universe without any discrimination as all souls are the Lord's own part and parcels.)

(4) supremely more magnanimous than millions and millions of celestial Desire-trees;

(A desire-tree is only merciful when some qualified person approaches it but Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are causelessly and supremely merciful to every soul irrespective of whether one approaches Them or not or whether one is qualified or unqualified. A desire-tree can only fulfill one's explicit desires but Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name not only fulfill all all our desires in the past, present and future but also give Themselves completely to those who approach Them.)

(5) supremely more profound than millions of Oceans.

(An ocean is very deep but it is inanimate and it's depth is measurable. Whereas Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name are so unlimitedly profound being so full of infinite spiritual emotions that no one can ever fathom or reach the end of Their glories.)

(6) millions of times more sweeter than sudhaa, kshira and maadhvika celestial Nectars (which are the essence of all nectars) combined together;

(By drinking the celestial nectars, the demigods becomes  intoxicated and attached to the bodily platform of life and become puffed-up thinking themselves as enjoyers. But drinking the sweetest nectar of the beauty of Lord Gauranga's Form and Holy Name, the devotees spontaneously develop all the great virtues like humility, purity, detachment etc. without any separate effort.),

(7) filled every moment with millions upon millions of newer and newer greatly astonishing, superexcellent and wonderful sentiments of pure and splendid nectar of Lord Gauranga's own pure ecstatic love."

Verse 102: Even Shiva and Brahma are astounded...

sva-paadaambhojaika-pranaya-lahari-saadhana-bhritaam

shiva-brahmaadinaam api cha sumahaa-vismaya-bhritaam

mahaa-premaaveshaat kim api natataam unmada iva

prabhur gauro jiyaat prakata-paramaashcharya-mahimaa (102)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 102: "All glories to the supremely astonishing and wonderful glories manifested by Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name. The nectarean waves of spontaneous loving mellows emanating from the Lotus Feet and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga supremely astounds, enchants and overwhelms the most exalted personalities like Brahma, Shiva etc. then what to speak of the great benefit They award to the conditioned souls engaged in the practices of devotional service. Thus even the most fallen living entities will instantly become intoxicated and maddened with the most exalted love for the Lord while dancing and singing the Lord Gauranga's Holy Names and Pastimes."

Verse 103: Crest-jewel of millions of monists...

maadyat-koti-mrigendra-hunkriti-ravas tigmaamshu-koti-cchavih

kotindudbhata-shitalo gati-jita-pronmatta-koti-dvipah

naamnaa durgata-koti-nishkriti-karo brahmaadi-kotishvarah

koty-advaita-shiromanir vijayate shri-shri-shachi-nandanah (103)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 103: "All glories and victory to the Supreme Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name, Who is also known as Shri Shri Shachinandana, the transcendental son of Shrimati Shachidevi, mother of the creation. His profound voice is more deep and esoteric than the roaring of millions of powerful lions combined together. His golden bodily luster is more radiant than that of millions of suns. Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name is more cooling and soothing than millions of moons and the chanting or hearing of His Holy Name and Pastimes instantly rescues and delivers million and millions of unfortunate, fateless, misguided and sinful living entities. Lord Gauranga's brilliant bodily movements conquer the gracefulness of millions of maddened elephants. Lord Gauranga and His Holy Names are the ultimate Supreme Masters of millions of demigods beginning with Lord Brahma and the magnificent crest-jewels and goals of millions upon millions of monists and impersonalists."

Verse 104: Illuminating the treacherous path...

ko’py antardhvaanta-hantaa sa jayati navadvipa-dipyat-pradipah (104)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 104: "All glories to the brilliantly luminous lamp of Navadvipa, Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name, Who are shining, illuminating and manifesting the glories of the most elevated transcendental love and affection for Shri Shri Radha-Krishna and thus most expertly, instantly and permanently eradicating the dense darkness and ignorance in the innermost core of everyone's hearts. This divine lamp Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name brightly illumines the barren, goaless, thorn-filled, impassable and treacherously winding path of deceptive speculative knowledge and reveals the true path that leads to the swiftly flowing nectar stream of the supreme bliss of pure love for the Lord."

Verse 105: Combusting the moths of false logic...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 105: "Burning and fully combusting the big moths of false logic, arguments and speculation; calming and assuaging us more than millions of moons; abundantly radiant with the effulgent abode of eternal nectarean sweetness; totally nullifying the dense darkness and ignorance within and without our hearts; and its wick expertly splendid and brilliant with the ghee of divine love; the luminously golden and astonishingly wonderful lamp of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name mercifully shines in this world at every moment, heralding supreme auspiciousness for one and all."

Verse 106: Suffusing all the ten directions...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 106: "Suffusing and permeating all the ten directions with the profound sound of His loud calls, imbuing the surrounding sky with a host of splendidly white kunda and kairava flowers by the enchanting waves of His uproarious laughter, all His transcendental limbs trembling with love just like a banyan tree moving and shaking in the wind, and maddened with the intoxicating mellows of His all-inundating love, Lord Gauranga-Hari and His most purifying Holy Name most gracefully decorate this creation by Their most auspicious presence."

Verse 107: Washing away all crookedness...

bhaktaanaam hric-chakora-svadita-pada-ruchir bhaati gauraanga-chandrah (107)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 107: "Completely faultless and spotless; gracefully dancing; washing away all the contamination, impurity, deceit and crookedness; showering the nectarean mellows of the most exalted love of God which extinguishes the threefold miseries and suffering of each and every living entity; its brilliant effulgence constantly relished by the anxious chakora birds of the devotees' hearts; and now arisen from the enchanting and vast milk ocean of the womb of His mother Shrimati Shachidevi by the stroke of the greatest good fortune, the divine moon of Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name lustrously shine in the world."

Verse 108: Long sighs of separation...

sinchan sinchan nayana-payasaa paandu-ganda-sthalaantam

ucchaih krandan karuna-karunodgirna-haa-heti-raavo

gaurah ko’pi vraja-virahini-bhaava-magnash chakaasti (108)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 108: "Repeatedly sprinkling and shedding pearl-like tears which beautifully glide down the corners of His pale cheeks, repeatedly emitting long sighs at every second, and loudly and plaintively exclaiming patheticly divine cries, the golden Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, while chanting His own Holy Names, becomes fully absorbed and engrossed in the mood and mellows of the loving separation felt by Shrimati Radha and the Gopies for His own form of Lord Krishna in Vrindavana."

Verse 109: All forms of God are present in Gauranga...

bibhrad-varnam kim api dahanottirna-sauvarna-saaram

aavishkurvan kvachid avasare tat-tad-aashcharya-lilaam

saakshaad raadhaa-madhuripu-vapur bhaati gauraanga-chandrah (109)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 109: "Sometimes Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu manifests His golden Form which is the essence of supremely refined molten gold. Sometimes He exhibitingly displays His transcendental and divine Form of a cowherd boy known as Lord Baal Gopala. Sometimes He reveals and demonstrates His supremely and astonishingly marvelous pastimes of chanting His own Holy Names. And sometimes Lord Gaurangachandra brilliantly and splendidly manifests His direct and combined form of Shri Shri Radha Madhuripu (Krishna). Thus, all these topmost forms of Godhead are fully present and manifested in the transcendental Holy Form and Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu."

Chapter Ten: Glorification of Lord Gauranga's Incarnation

Verse 110: Thunderbolt-like hearts are becoming  like soft butter...

akasmaad evaavirbhavati bhagavan-naama-lahari

paritaanaam paapair api purubhir eshaam tanu-bhritaam

aho vajra-praayam hrid api navanitaayitam abhun

nriinaam loke yasminn ’vatarati sa gauro mama gatih  (110)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 110: "Now that the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name have descended to this mortal world of birth and death, suddenly and astonishingly the gigantic waves of sankirtana (congregational chanting) have manifested in this world. The chanting of the glories of Lord Gauranga's Holy Name and Pastimes is instantly converting the thunderbolt-like hearts of the greatly overwhelmed sinful souls bound in the bodily concept of life into hearts which are soft like fresh butter. Thus Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name and Pastimes eternally remain the one and only destination of my life."

Verse 111: Suddenly everyone has become qualified...

na yogo na dhyaanam na cha japa-tapas-tyaaga-niyamaa

na vedaa naachaarah kva nu bata nishiddhaady-uparatih

akasmaac chaitanye’vatarati dayaa-saara-hridaye

pumarthaanaam maulim param iha mudaa lunthati janah  (111)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 111: "Now that the essence of all mercy and the supremely munificent and magnanimous Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name have suddenly descended to this world, even those unfortunate and degraded living entities who had formerly never performed and practiced yoga, meditation, chanting of mantras, austerities, renunciation, the rules and regulations of the Vedic orders of life, the study of the Vedas, proper conduct, spiritual activities or the avoidance of sinful activities, have become capable of most effortlessly and blissfully plundering the treasure-house of the supreme crest-jewel of all goals of life which is pure love for the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna."

Verse 112: Hard-core materialists are delivered...

mahaakarma-shroto-nipatitam api sthairyam ayate

mahaa-paashaanebhyo’py atikathinam eti drava-dashaam

nataty urdhvam nihsaadhanam api mahaa-yogi-manasaam

bhuvi shri-chaitanye’vatarati manash chitra-vibhave (112)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 112: "Now that the astonishingly opulent and touchingly beautiful Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name have descended to this world,  the hardcore materialists, who had fallen and sunk in the massive raging river of entangling fruitive deeds, have been rescued and situated on firm and stable ground, even the great mountainous, rocky and hard boulders have melted and liquefied in pure love, and even those whose hearts were absorbed and fixed in the elevated stages of non-devotional yoga and devoid of any practices of devotion are now ecstatically dancing with raised hands in the bliss of pure love for Lord Gauranga-Krishna."

Verse 113: All useless activities have ended...

stri-putraadi-kathaam jahur vishayinah shaastra-pravaadam budhaa

yogindraa vijahur marun-niyama-ja-klesham tapas taapasaah

jnaanaabhyaasa-vidhim jahush cha yatayash chaitanya-chandre paraa

maavishkurvati bhakti-yoga-padavim naivaanya aasid rasah (113)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 113: "Now that the divine moon of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name have splendidly manifested the supreme platform of pure devotional service, the gross materialistic sense-gratifiers have abandoned the discussion about their wives, children and material affairs, the scholars have given up debating the scriptures, the most advanced yogis have given up their efforts to control their breath and follow the yamas and niyamas, the greatest of renunciants have given up the misery of performing severe austerities, and the impersonalitic gyanis have given up their pursuits for speculative knowledge. Thus now there is nothing more sweet then the ambrosial nectar emanating from Lord Gauranga's Lotus Feet and His Holy Name."

Verse 114: In each and every home...

abhud gehe gehe tumula-hari-sankirtana-ravo

babhau dehe dehe vipula-pulakaashru-vyatikarah

api snehe snehe parama-madhurotkarsha-padavi

daviyasy aamnaayaad api jagati gaure’vatarati (114)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 114: "In each and every home there is tumultous singing and congregational chanting of Lord Gaurahari's Holy Names and on each and every body there are profuse and exalted ecstatic symptoms of pure love like hairs standing erect, tears of joy etc. In each and every heart there is supreme love and affection for the Lord which grants the supremely attractive platform of sweet nectaren mellows of love of God and which is inaccessible and far away even from the path of the four Vedas (shruti and smriti). All these extraordinary and rare events are now manifesting in this world simply due to the transcendental appearance of Lord Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Names, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes."

Verse 115: Never ever seen symptoms have appeared in this world...

akasmaad evaitad bhuvanam abhitah plaavitam abhun

akasmaac chaadrishtaa-shruta-chara-vikaarair alam abhuc

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 115: "Due to the supremely astonishing descent of the Supreme Lord Krishna in the form of the most enchanting golden-limbed Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name, the entire universe has become effortlessly, unexpectedly and suddenly flooded and drowned in the wave-like nectarean mellows of the all-pervading and gigantic ocean of pure love of God. Due to this supremely auspicious advent of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name in Kali Yuga, the most rare, exalted, beautiful and intricate ecstatic symptoms of pure love, which are hardly seen or even heard of in this material creation or even in Vaikuntha, have now appeared in this world."

Verse 116: False Pride has gone...

udgrihnanti samasta-shaastram abhito durvaara-garvaayitaa

dhanyam-manya-dhiyash cha karma-tapasaady-ucchaavacheshu sthitaah

dvitraany eva japanti kechana harer naamaani vaamaashayaah

purvam samprati gaurachandra udite premaapi saadhaaranah (116)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 116: "Previously, the most erudite scholars had become unshakeably puffed-up by thinking themselves the omniscient masters of all the Vedic scriptures, and many others claimed themselves as glorious, successful and perfect by performing some austerities or fruitive work or by chanting some imaginary mantras. Also some others with a crooked and deceitful mentality thought themselves as great simply by mechanically uttering the Holy Names of Lord Hari twice or thrice. That was the past. But now that the golden moon of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name has risen, even the most common people have become genuinely and effortlessly elevated to the topmost platform of pure love of God."

Verse 117: Even a child or old man has attained love...

deve chaitanya-naamany avatarati sura-praarthya-paadaabja-seve

vishvadrichih pravistaarayati sumadhura-prema-piyusha-vichih

ko baalah kash cha vriddhah ka iha jada-matih kaa budhah ko varaakah

sarveshaam aikarasyam kim api hari-pade bhakti-bhaajaam (117)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 117: "Now that the Supreme Personality of Godhead bearing the Name of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has descended to this universe along with His Holy Name, even the most common people have attained the direct and most confidential service of His two lotus feet which is aspired and prayed for by even the most exalted demigods. The gigantic waves of the nectarean and supremely sweet mellows of pure love are inundating and extending in all the directions of the universe due to the loud chanting of Lord Gauranga's Name and Pastimes. Who is a child now? Who is an old man? Who is fool and dumb? Who is man? Who is woman? Who is fallen, abominable and unfortunate? Everyone has now become free from the external material designations and all have equally attained the supreme platform of tasting the sweet mellows of pure devotional service for the lotus feet of Lord Gaurahari through the chanting of His divine Holy Names and Pastimes."

Verse 118: All Associates have come in Kali Yuga...

sarve shankara-naaradaadaya ihaayaataah svayam shrir api

praaptaa deva-halaayudho’pi milito jaataash cha te vrishnayah

bhuyah kim vraja-vaasino’pi prakataa gopaala-gopyaadayah

purna-prema-raseshvare’vatarati shri-gaurachandre bhuvi (118)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 118: "Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name are the supreme Masters of all mellows of complete and pure spiritual love. Now that They have incarnated in this world, all the Lord's great associates like Shiva, Narada, Brahma, all the demigods and the goddess of fortune Shri Lakshmidevi etc. have advented to accompany Him in His transcendental pastimes. Even all His most confidential associates from Goloka Vrindavana headed by His supreme pleasure potency Shrimati Radharani, who is the source of all the goddesses of fortune, His elder brother who always carries His golden plough: the Supreme Personality of Servitor Godhead Lord Nityananda Balarama, and all the cowherd men and women of Vraja, have personally appeared to relish Lord Gauranga's Pastimes and Holy Names in the direct company of the Lord by assisting Him in His pastimes for 24 years in Shri Navadvipa Dhaam and for 24 years in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam."

Verse 119: Even higher treasure of love than Lord Krishna's pastimes...

bhrityaah snigdhaa atha sumadhura-projjvalodaara-bhaajas

tat-paadaabja-dvitaya-savidhe sarva evaavatirnaah

praapuh purvaadhikatara-mahaaprema-piyusha-lakshmim

sva-premaanam vitarati jagaty adbhutam hema-gaure (119)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 119: "The supremely golden Lord Hema Gauranga is personally distributing the strikingly astonishing and exquisitely wonderful treasure of His own pure love through the chanting of His own Holy Names and Pastimes. Thus all His most affectionate and intimate servitors possessing the supremely sweet and greatly splendid love for Him appeared again in Kali Yuga with the desire to always reside near His two charming lotus feet. And surprisingly all of them attained an even higher treasure of Mahaprema i.e. pure nectarean mellows of love for the Lord by chanting Lord Gauranga's glorious Name and Pastimes in Lord Gauranga's pastimes, then even what they had attained while participating in Lord Krishna's pastimes or in the pastimes of the other incarnations of Lord Gauranga-Krishna."

Verse 120: Illiterate are eclipsing the scholars...

hasanty ucchair ucchair ahaha kula-vadhvo’pi parito

tiraskurvanty ajnaa api sakala-shaastrajna-samitim

kshitau shri-chaitanye’dbhuta-mahima-saare’vatarati (120)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 120: "Since the supremely brilliant and glorious essence of all incarnations Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name have advented in this world, everywhere the saintly men and women are blissfully, repeatedly, and loudly laughing due to being intoxicated by pure love; the rock-like hearts of the materiastic people which were hardened by the wretched desires for the sense-pleasures of this world are melting by the touch of Lord Gauranga's Glories and Name; and even the illiterate and unlettered devotees are eclipsing and rejecting the community of a host of 'learned' atheistic scholars."

Verse 121: Mind was blunted before Lord Gauranga's Advent....

praayash chaitanyam aasid api sakala-vidaam neha purvam yad eshaam

khaarvaa sarvaartha-saare’py akrita nahi padam kunthitaa buddhi-vrittih

gambhirodaara-bhaavojjvala-rasa-madhura-prema-bhakti-praveshah

keshaam naasid idaanim jagati karunayaa gaura-chandre’vatirne (121)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 121: "Before the advent of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name in this universe, even those who knew all the branches of knowledge were totally crippled in the understanding of the actual essence and goal of all their endeavors in life, nor was anyone in this world able to properly use their constricted and blunted mind and intelligence for their own spiritual benefit. But now that Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name have most magnanimously descended to this world from the topmost eternal realm of Goloka and Navadvipa, who has not attained and entered into the deepest, most confidential, splendid and nectarean devotional mellows of Prema Bhakti i.e. pure unalloyed love for the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna?"

Verse 122: Lord Krishna had to personally incarnate again...

shrimad-bhaagavatasya yatra paramam taatparyam uttankitam

shri-vaiyaasakinaa duranvayatayaa raasa-prasange’pi yat

yad raadhaa-rati-keli-naagara-rasaasvaadaika-sad-bhaajanam

tad-vastu-prathanaaya gaura-vapushaa loke’vatirno harih (122)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 122: "Because of the extremely confidential and exalted nature of devotional service to the sweet, nectarian and amorous pastimes of the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha Krishna in Vrindavana, Shrila Shukadeva Goswami has only briefly hinted at it during his description of the raasa dance in the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagavatam despite the fact that it is the essence of all the 18,000 verses of Bhagavatam. Thus, to expand our understanding about these supreme pastimes of the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna and impart us the most rare and factual qualification to enter into them, the Supreme Lord Krishna Himself has fully and personally incarnated as Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu along with His Holy Name, Form, Qualities, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes in Kali Yuga. Lord Vrajendranandana Krishna had to personally and fully advent again in Kali Yuga as Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu because no one except Himself can award this supreme love of Navadvipa-Vrindavana to all the living entities, not even His other great incarnations like Lord Vasudeva Krishna, Lord Rama, Lord Nrisingha, Lord Narayana, Lord Vishnu, etc."

Verse 123: Even Vraja's Associates got promoted...

kechid daasyam avaapur uddhava-mukhaah shlaaghyam pare lebhire

shri-daamaadi-padam vrajaambuja-drishaam bhaavaan cha bhejuh pare

anye dhanyatamaa dhayanti sudhiyo raadhaa-padaambhoruham

shri-chaitanya-mahaaprabhoh karunayaa lokasya kaah sampadah (123)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 123: "By the supremely and causelessly merciful sidelong glance of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name, some exalted servitors of the Lord in Dvaraka and Vaikuntha headed by Uddhava have attained His intimate and confidential service in Vrindavana in dasya rasa (mellow of servitorship) like Chitraka, Patraka etc.; others have attained an even glorious position in Vrindavana as the Lord Krishna's friends like Shridama and others; others have become the supremely beautiful lotus-eyed gopis in Vraja; and the most fortunate, expert and intelligent souls have attained the supreme shelter of direct service to the lotus feet of Shrimati Radharani. Thus, there is no treasure in this world not attainable by causeless and supreme mercy of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name."

Verse 124: All confusions are gone...

sarvajnair muni-pungavaih pravitate tat-tan-mate yuktibhih

purvam naikataratra ko’pi sudridham vishvasta aasij janah

sampraty apratima-prabhaava udite gauraanga-chandre punah

shruty-artho hari-bhaktir eva paramah kair vaa na nirdhaaryate (124)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 124: "In the past, even though the all-knowledgable and great sages expounded many philosophies based on their sharp arguments, the common people could not accept any single conclusion with conviction, determination and confidence. But now that the unparalleledly powerful moon of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name has arisen in this world, who has not come to the ultimate conclusion that the essence of all the Vedic scriptures is to render pure unalloyed devotional service to Lord Gauranga-Hari and to incessantly chant His Holy Names."

Verse 125: Radiance of Lord Gauranga's toenails...

vishvam mahaa-pranaya-saadhu-sudhaa-rasaika-

paathonidhau sakalam eva nimajjayantam

gauraanga-chandra-nakha-chandra-mani-cchataayaah

kanchid vichitram anubhaavam aham smaraami (125)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 125: "Let us remember and deeply meditate on the splendid effulgence emanating from the jewel-like (chandramani) toenails of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name which impregnates our hearts with strikingly wonderful realizations at every moment. This divine radiance of Lord Gauranga two Lotus Feet and Holy Name is overwhelming and drowning every living entity in this creation into the boundless ocean of the excellent and nectarean mellows of Mahapranaya i.e. extreme love and attachment for the Lord."

Verse 126: Highest charitable act for creation...

ati-punyair ati-sukritaih kritaarthikritah ko’pi purvaih

evam kair api na kritam yat premaabdhau nimajjitam vishvam (126)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 126: "Although in the past many exalted personalities have performed charitable acts of extreme material and spiritual piety, auspiciousness and good fortune for this world, no one ever can or has or will be able to perform this greatest of all beneficiary acts for this universe of inundating and drowning it in the ocean of pure eternal love and happiness which has been accomplished directly by the maganimous Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name."

Verse 127: Even an ex cow-killer can flood the world...

dharme nishthaam dadhad anupamaam vishnu-bhaktim garishthaam

sambibhraano dadhad ahaha iha hi hrit-tishthativaashma-saaram

nicho goghraad api jagad aho plaavayaty ashru-puraih

ko vaa jaanaaty ahaha gahanam hema-gauraanga-rangam (127)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 127: "Even though a person may very faithfully discharge the principles of religion and he or she may engage in totally dedicated, unmatched, unique and advanced devotional service to Lord Vishnu, his or her heart may still remain as hard as iron. On the other hand, even a person who was previously very abominable and even a cow-killer can astonishingly inundate the whole world with a flood of tears of pure love of God, if he or she can simply understand and relish even just a tiny drop of the deep and confidential nectar present in the golden Form and Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu."

Verse 128: Unique gestures of love...

kvachit krishnaaveshaan natati bahubhangim abhinayan

kvachid raadhaavishto hari hari harity aarti-ruditah

kvachid ringan baalah kvachid api cha gopaala-charito

jagad gauro vismaapayati bahu-gambhira-mahimaa (128)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 128: "Sometimes Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu assumes the ecstatic mood of Lord Krishna and dances jubilantly with many graceful, exquisite and dramatic bodily postures and motions. Sometimes He becomes overwhelmed by the mood of Shrimati Radharani and cries out: ‘Hari! Hari! Hari!' Sometimes He becomes a crawling infant and sometimes He exhibits His characteristics of His previous incarnation Lord Gopala-Krishna. Thus, in unlimited ways, Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name astonish and stun the whole world by the boundlessly deep glories of Their own pure love."

Verse 129: On the shore of the salt-water ocean...

velaayaam lavanaambudher madhurima-praag-bhaava-saara-sphural-

lilaayaam nava-ballavi-rasa-nidher aaveshayanti jagat

khelaayaam api shaishave nija-ruchaa vishvaika-sammohini

murtih kaachana kaanchana-drava-mayi chittaaya me rochate (129)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 129: "My heart is extremely enchanted, delighted and attached to the molten golden form of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and the constant chanting of His Holy Name, Who are the personifications of all love. On the shore of the salt-water ocean (Bay of Bengal) in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam, this golden Form and Name of Lord Gauranga infuses and overwhelms the whole world with the essence of all the nectarean sweetness and amplifies the ecstatic spiritual emotions of the transcendental pastimes of Lord Krishna, Who is the ever-expanding ocean of the sublime mellows of pure love for the Gopies in Shri Vrindavana Dhaam. Even in His childhood, Lord Gauranga's playful pastimes in Shri Navadvipa Dhama were the exact and marvellous replica of Lord Krishna's pastimes in Shri Gokula-Vrindavana Dhama. In this way Lord Gauranga is constantly attracting and alluring the whole universe by His sweet transendental Name, Form, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes."

Verse 130: No one knew the summit of love before Lord Gauranga's advent...

premaa naamaadbhutaarthah shravana-patha-gatah kasya naamnaam mahimnah

ko vettaa kasya vrindaavana-vipina-mahaa-maadhurishu praveshah

ko vaa jaanaati raadhaam parama-rasa-chamatkaara-maadhurya-simaam

ekash chaitanya-chandrah parama-karunayaa sarvam aavishchakaara (130)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 130: "Before the advent of magnanimous Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name, the astonishingly wonderful meanings of the words 'pure love' had never ever entered into the pathways of anyone's ears! Who had even known the full unlimited glories of chanting of the Holy Names of God? Who had ever understood and entered into the supreme ambrosial sweetness of the exquisite forests of Vrindavana? What to speak of anyone even trying to comprehend the limit of the supremely sweet, astonishing and nectarean mellows of the conjugal love for the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna! All these subjects were uncomprehensible and inaccessible to anyone before the advent of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name. It is only due to the descent of the supremely magnanimous and munificent mercy of Lord Gauranga and His Holy Name that these most confidential truths are now accessible and revealed to one and all without any discrimination or consideration of eligibility."

Chapter Eleven: Lord Gauranga's Transcendental Charateristics

Verse 131: Inviting all souls by personally dancing in Puri Dhama...

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 131: "Constantly and fervently glorified by Shiva, Brahma, Vyasa and all the other demigods and sages, inundating and covering the entire universe millions of times by the tossing and rising waves of the ever-expanding ocean of perfect and pure love, displaying a most enchanting form which astounds the whole world and which is inaccessible to millions of Vedic scriptures, the most wonderful Parama Brahma Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name personally dance and invite all the conditioned souls on the shore of the salt-water ocean at Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam."

Verse 132: Who is this playful King of all dancers?

pidah kridati gaura-naagara-varo nrityan nijair naamabhih (132)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 132: "Who is this radiant golden-complexioned person wearing a splendid loin cloth around His beautiful hips, exquisite bracelets on His wrists, effulgent necklaces around His neck and chest, earings on His lotus bud-like ears, anklebells on His lotus feet, and a fragrant garland of blossoming jasmine flowers in His beautiful hair bound upwards as a topknot. Please hear attentively. He is none other than the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, the supremely playful King of all dancers and enjoyers in this world and He constantly remains absorbed in the chanting and relishing of His own Holy Names which are non-different from Himself."

Verse 133: Shower of flowers by the demigods...

devaa dundubhi-vaadanam vidadhire gandharva-mukhyaa jaguh

siddhaah santata-pushpa-vrishtibhir imaam prithvim samaacchaadayan

divya-stotra-paraa maharshi-nivahaah prityopatasthur nija-

premonmaadini taandavam rachayati shri-gaurachandre bhuvi (133)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 133: "The demigods played and sounded the dundubhi drums, the chiefs of all the Gandharvas jubilantly sang and danced, the Siddhas profusely covered the earth with a continual shower of flowers from the sky, and the multitude of great sages affectionately and devotedly recited divinely exalted prayers and verses with great attachment---as the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu exhuberantly danced in this world maddened and intoxicated by the supreme love and the distribution of the His one love and Holy Names."

Verse 134: New mood at every moment...

kshanam hasati roditi kshanam atha kshanam murcchati

kshanam luthati dhaavati kshanam atha kshanam nrityati

kshanam shvasiti munchati kshanam udaara-haahaa-rutim

mahaa-pranaya-sidhunaa viharatiha gauro harih (134)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 134: "One moment Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu laughs or smiles. The next moment He cries. And the next moment He faints. One moment He rolls on the ground and the next moment He runs. Another moment He dances. The next moment He sighs. The next moment He loudly roars, 'Alas! Alas!' In this way plunged in the most profound nectar ocean of His own Holy Names and Pastimes, the golden-complexioned Lord Gauranga-Hari revels and rejoices in His transcendental pastimes. May that Lord Gauranga and His Divine Holy Name reward me with Their personal audience!"

Verse 135: Shower of tears in Puri Dhaam...

ashrunaam kim api pravaaha-nivahaih kshaunim purah pankilaam-

kurvan paani-tale nidhaaya vadaraa-paandum kapola-sthalim

aashcharyam lavanoda-rodhasi vasan shonam dadhaano’mshukam

gauribhuya harih svayam vitanute raadhaa-padaabje ratim (135)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 135: "Residing in His Holy Abode of Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam by the shore of the salt-water ocean, the astonishing Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu muddies the ground in front of Him by the infinite streams of His pearl-like tears and places His soft cheeks which are as fair as vadaraa berries in His lotus bud-like hands. In this manner, Lord Hari Himself dresses in the divinely saffron garments of a golden sannyasi, accepts the Name of Lord Gauranga and manifests and distributes His own pure love and attachment to Shri Radha's lotus feet specifically through the chanting of the glories of His own Holy Names and Pastimes."

Verse 136: Whitening the sky with His smile...

paadaaghaata-ravair disho mukharayan netraambhasaam bindubhih

kshaunim pankilayann aho vishadayann attaattahaasair nabhah

chandra-jyotir udaara-sundara-kati-vyaalola-shonaambarah

ko devo lavanoda-kula-kusumodyaane mudaa nrityati (136)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 136: "Who is this divine personality who is purifying all the directions by imbuing them with the sound of His lotus feet as He places Them on the ground, muddying the ground with the pearl-like tears from His lotus eyes, whitening and brightening the sky with His loud roaring laughter, His divine form as splendid as the moon, and His handsome broad hips covered with an astounding saffron garment, and jubilantly dancing in a beautiful flower garden by the shore of the salt-water ocean in Puri Dhaam? He is none other than Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu who has Himself predicted that His Holy Names will spread and be glorified and chanted all over the universe during the next 10,000 years. (1486 - 11486 AD)"

Chapter Twelve: Final Prayers to Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu

Verse 137: Inaccessible even for the Vedas...

sarvair aamnaaya-chudaamanibhir api na samlakshyate yat svarupam

shrisha-brahmaady-agamyaa sumadhura-padavi kaapi yasyaasti ramyaa

yenaakasmaaj jagat-shri-hari-rasa-madiraa-mattam etad vyadhaayi

shrimac-chaitanya-chandrah sa kim u mama giraam gocharash chetaso vaa (137)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 137: "When will Lord Shrimad Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name, whose transcendental sac-cid-ananda (eternal, all-knowledgable and blissful) form is inaccessible and unfathomable even to the Upanishads etc. which are the crest-jewel of all the Vedas, Whose charming, enchanting and supremely sweet vibration cannot be even approached by Lakshmi, Shiva, Brahma or the other demigods, and Who has suddenly and effortlessly caused the whole world to become maddened and intoxicated by the nectarean beverage of pure love for the Lord, come within the range of my tongue, words, thoughts and heart and thus grant me the qualification to behold Him face to face while chanting His Holy Names?

Verse 138: Where have You gone?

jaadyam karmasu kutrachij japa-tapo-yogaadikam kutrachid-

govindaarchana-vikriyah kvachid api jnaanaabhimaanah kvachit

shri-bhaktih kvachid ujjvalaapi cha harer vaan-maatra eva sthitaa

haa chaitanya kuto gato’si padavi kutraapi te nekshyate (138)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 138: "Somewhere people are absorbed in deadly materialistic activities, somewhere people chant concocted mantras and practice dry austerities and yoga, somewhere people have become egotistic and puffed-up by the dint of their speculative knowledge, somewhere people are worshiping the Deity of Lord Govinda-Krishna or performing devotional service for material profit, and somewhere the splendid path of pure devotion to the Lord is present in name only. O Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu where have You gone? I do not see anywhere the path of Your pure devotional service attained exclusively by the chanting of Your most merciful Names and Pastimes. Alas, what a great calamity has befallen this world? No one even remembers Your  Name what to speak of worshiping You with devotion!"

Verse 139: Once in 8.64 billion years...

abhivyakto yatra druta-kanaka-gauro harir abhun

mahimnaa tasyaiva pranaya-rasa-magnam jagad abhut

abhud ucchair ucchais tumula-hari-sankirtana-vidhih

sa kaalah kim bhuyo’py ahaha parivarteta madhurah (139)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 139: "When the molten golden-complexioned Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga-Hari was present and manifest in this world, the whole universe was filled and plunged in the exalted glories of the mellows of pure love for the chanting of His Holy Names and Pastimes. Everywhere there was tumultous and loud congregational chanting and singing of His Holy Names and Glorious Pastimes. Alas! Oh! Will that supremely sweet time ever come again in this world? Yes it will, but only after 8,640,000,000 years since Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu personally descends in this universe only once in one full day (24 hours, one kalpa) of Lord Brahma."

Verse 140: Where is that exuberant festival gone?

saiveyam bhuvi dhanya-gauda-nagari velaapi saivaambudheh

so’yam shri-purushottamo madhupates taany eva naamaani cha

no kutraapi nirikshyate hari hari  premotsavas taadrisho

haa chaitanya kripaa-nidhaana tava kim vikshe punar vaibhavam (140)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 140: "The most glorious abode of Shri Navadvipa Dhaam certainly remains on this earth. The divine seashore at Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam also remains. The glorious abode of Lord Madhupati Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam also remains on this planet. The Holy Names of the Lord are also still there. But alas! alas! alas! I do not find or behold anywhere the same kind of exhuberant festival of pure love of God as exhibited by Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu during His manifest pastimes. O Lord Gauranga, O ocean of compassion and mercy, when will I become fortunate to again directly behold Your transcendental glories? I can attain this supreme good fortune of seeing You again only by taking constant shelter of chanting the Holy Names, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes."

Verse 141: If one states that Lord Gauranga is a partial incarnation...

yadi nigadita-minaady-amshavad gaurachandro

na tad api sa hi kashchicchakti-lilaa-vikaashah

atula-sakala-shaktyaashcharya-lilaa-prakaashair

anadhigata-mahattvah purna evaavatirnah (141)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 141: "If someone says that Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gaurangachandra is simply a partial incarnation of God like Matsya, Kurma, Varaha etc. or if not that, then He is simply a pastime or an empowered incarnation of Godhead, then such a supremely unfortunate person does not understand the actual glory and original position of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu as the absolutely powerful source and origin of all the material and spiritual creation and of all the unlimited incarnations of Godhead. Thus such a person cannot comprehend that Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu is the perfect, complete and original Lord Krishna Himself and full of incomparable potencies and in possession of all the wonderfully astonishing pastimes of all the incarnations that expand from Him. Thus anyone who chants the glories of Lord Gauranga's Name and Pastimes gets the limitless spiritual fruit of chanting all the Names of all the unlimited incarnations of Godhead."

Verse 142: Fruit of reading Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita

brahmeshaadi-mahaashcharya-mahimaapi mahaaprabhuh

mugdha-baaloditam shrutvaa snigdho’vashyam bhavishyati (142)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 142: "The transcendental opulences and glories of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name supremely astonish Brahma, Shiva and all the demigods. On even partially hearing or reading this sweet offering of the nectarean verses of Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita from this enchanted child (the author) even once, Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His Holy Name will certainly become affectionate and causelessly merciful to that person and award him or her with the supremely blissful pure love for Himself."

Verse 143: Lord Gauranga's direct satisfaction...

drishtam na shaastram guravo na prishtaa

vivechitam naapi budhaih sva-buddhyaa

yathaa tathaa jalpatu baala-bhaavaat

tathaapi me gauraharih prasidatu (143)

Explanatory Translation by BRS Swami Gaurangapada:

Verse 143: "Whatever Lord Gauranga inspires me, I speak like an innocent enthralled child. Thus I am certainly sure that the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga-Hari and His Holy Name will be pleased upon me for this endeavor and that They will be magnanimously compassionate on anyone who reads, hears or studies even one of the 143 nectarean verses of Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita."

Thus ends the English translation of the Divine Holy Book Shri Chaitanya Chandramrita by His Divine Grace Paramhansa Thakura Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Prabhupada by His Holiness Tridandi Bhikshu Bhaktiratna Sadhu Swami Gaurangapada. This translation from Sanskrit has been completed on the most Holy Purnima (full moon) Day of Shri Krishna Pushya Abhisheka on the 7th of January 2004 in the most auspicious Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhaam and offered to the lotus feet of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu at Gambhira, His eternal place of residence and pastimes.
