Q. What is the use of chanting?

Materialists sometimes say – “ What is use in this chanting Nityananda, Nityananda, Nityananda.” Better to do something solid, to earn money, to make some social progress. Such money-oriented persons think that we are wasting precious time on chanting and that this process is not productive.

 

But such ignorant persons do not know real nature of this world. Asatyere satya kori mani. In their agony of illusion they accepted asatyere – something that is not real, for satya kori mani, to be real. Like thirsty man in desert who desperately searching for water and may see palm trees and oasis in distance. “Oh, here is water, now I will satisfy my thirst” – he may think, but reality is that all around him is only sand, not even drop of water. This material world is just like that dry realm, and in Bhagavad-Gita Lord Shri Krishna describes it to be temporary place..

 

Materialists want to find eternal solutions for problems of this world and they are investing so much time and energy to subdue material nature and accommodate material environment to their needs. But such endeavors can not be successfully finished. Evan if some person finds some way to build great home, earn large amount of money, he can not avoid pain, disease and finally death. That is inevitable.

 

Still majority of persons in modern world do not inquire about such problems. Why I must die? What is happening after death? Is there real happiness? Who Im I and where I am going? Live today and take what you can – that is parole in modern world. Take, cheat, steal and enjoy. Whole civilization is suffering from that false concept. Recently scientists hold urgent seminar about shocking consequences of modern industrial progress – ozone holes, pollution, global warming and so many problems are reactions for such wrong actions. Such vast endeavors are results of forgetting our real position ahankare mata hoiya nitai pada pasariya. This civilization is in ignorance because they forgot lotus feet of Lord Nityananda.

 

You are chanting Nityananda, Nityananda, Nityananda. What are you gaining with that? – they are asking. Better to chant money, money money… They think that we are simply wasting our time, we know that they are wasting their time. Karmany akarmayah pasyed akarmani ca karma yah, Lord described in Bhagavad Gita. A devotee sees inactivity in their activities. This civilization is so proud on their supreme scientific achievements, but all such activities are temporary and only partional solutions. Death will come and all our material achievements can not be of any use in that moment. But persons do not want to hear such unpleasant truths. They are surprised - What are you talking about? Think positively! Enjoy in sense objects and don’t think! Such persons can not understand what is eternal happiness and joy because they forgot their real position and connection with Lord Nityananda, who is origin of eternal happiness and bliss.

 

Fortunate person who understand simple fact that we are part and parcel of Supreme Lord and that our real welfare is to be in His company and service automatically becomes happy and jubilant. If person understands that Lord Nityananda is eternal he or she automatically surpasses this entire temporary material struggle and enters into realm of devotion, realm of eternity. Then all knowledge and wisdom will be revealed and we will feel pure love in every moment. That is our real and eternal position that is easily attainable by practicing this simple process of chanting Nityananda, Gauranga and Hare Krishna.
