Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura
thakura vaishnava-pada, avanira su-sampada, shuna bhai, haiya eka mana
ashraya laiya bhaje, tare krishna nahi tyaje, ara saba mare akarana (1)
The lotus feet of the saintly Vaishnavas are the greatest wealth in this world. O my dear
brothers, please listen attentively. Krishna never forsakes one who takes shelter of the
Vaishnavas and who worships Him. Others die without reason.
vaishnava-carana-jala, prema-bhakti dite bala, ara keha nahe balavanta
vaishnava-carana-renu, mastake bhushana vinu, ara nahi bhushanera anta (2)
The water that has washed the feet of a Vaishnava gives divine strength to attain premabhakti. Nothing is more powerful than this. The dust of the feet of the
Vaishnavas upon my head is the only decoration needed at the time of death.
tirtha-jala pavitra gune, likhiyache purane, se-saba bhaktira pravancana
vaishnavera padodaka, sama nahe ei saba, jate haya vanchita-purana (3)
The purifying qualities of the water of the holy places are mentioned in the Puranas
and in every discourse on bhakti. However, the water from the feet of a Vaishnava
cannot be compared with water from all those holy places. One’s desires are fulfilled
by taking this water.
vaishnava-sangete mana, anandita anukshana, sada haya krishna-parasanga
dina narottama kande, hiya dhairya nahi bandhe, more dasha kena haila bhanga (4)
By associating with the Vaishnavas, one feels ever increasingly blissful while discussing
the topics of Shri Krishna. The lowly Narottama dasa cries out, "Oh, my heart is
breaking - I have lost the association of Krishna’s intimate bhaktas."
