Radhika-Carana-Padma

Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura

radhika-carana-padma, sakala shreyera sadma,

yatane je nahi aradhila

radha-padankita-dhama, vrindavana ja’ra nama,

taha je na ashraya karila (1)

radhika-bhava-gambhira-citta jeva mahadhira,

gana-sanga na kaila jivane

kemane se shyamananda-rasa-sindhu-snanananda,

labhibe bujhaha eka-mane (2)

One who has failed to worship with great care Shrimati Radhika’s lotus feet, which are

the abode of all auspiciousness; who has not taken shelter of Vrindavana dhama, which

is decorated with Her beautiful lotus footprints; who in this life has not associated with

Shrimati Radhika’s devotees whose moods, like Shrimati Radhika’s, are very deep and

grave, and whose hearts and intelligence are fixed in Her worship - how will such a

person ever experience the bliss of bathing in the ocean of shyama-rasa? Please understand

this most attentively!

radhika ujjvala-rasera acarya

radha-madhava-shuddha-prema vicarya (3)

Shrimati Radhika is the acarya of the mellows of amorous love (ujjvala-rasa). The

pure love between Radha and Madhava is meant to be discussed and contemplated.

je dhorila radha-pada parama yatane

se paila krishna-pada amulya-ratane (4)

Those who place Shrimati Radhika’s lotus feet in their hearts and worship them with

great care obtain the priceless jewel of Krishna’s lotus feet.

radha-pada vina kabhu krishna nahi mile

radhara dasira krishna sarva-vede bale (5)

Without taking shelter of the lotus feet of Radha, one can never meet Krishna. The Vedic

scriptures declare that Krishna is the property of the maidservants of Shri Radha.

chodata dhana-jana, kalatra-suta-mita,

chodata karama geyana

radha-pada-pankaja-madhurata sevana,

bhakativinoda paramana (6)

Abandoning wealth, followers, wife, sons and friends, and giving up materialistic

activities and speculative knowledge, one should become absorbed in the sweetness

of service to Shrimati Radharani’s lotus feet. This is Bhaktivinoda’s solemn declaration.
