Kabe Ha’be Hena Dasha Mora

Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura

kabe ha’be hena dasha mora

tyaji’ jada asha, vividha bandhana, chadiba samsara ghora (1)

When, oh when will such a condition be mine? Renouncing all my mundane desires,

which are producing various types of bondage, I will give up this dark, ghastly material

existence.

vrindavanabhede, navadvipa-dhame, badhiba kutirakhani

shacira nandana-carana-ashraya, kariba sambandha mani’ (2)

I will build my small hut at Navadvipa-dhama, which is non-different from Shri

Vrindavana. There I will establish my relationship with Shri Shaci-nandana, taking shelter

of His lotus feet.

jahnavi-puline, chinmaya-kanane, basiya vijana-sthale

krishna-namamrita, nirantara piba, dakiba ‘gauranga’ ba’le (3)

Living in a lonely place in a sacred forest on the bank of the Ganga, I will incessantly

drink the nectar of Shri Krishna’s name, and will loudly shout the name of Gauranga thus:

ha gaura-nitai, tora du’ti bhai, patita-janera bandhu

adhama patita, ami he durjana, hao more kripa sindhu (4)

“O Gaura-Nitai! You two brothers are the only true friends of all the fallen souls! I am

the lowest of the low, most fallen and wicked-minded, so kindly bestow Your ocean of

mercy upon me!”

kadite kadite, shola-krosha-dhama, jahnavi ubhaya kule

bhramite bhramite, kabhu bhagya-phale, dekhi kichu taru-mule (5)

Thus repeatedly sobbing and calling out, I will roam all over the abode of 32 square

miles, sometimes on one bank of the Ganga and sometimes on the other. And possibly,

while wandering about, if I ever receive a drop of good fortune, I may suddenly glance

over at the base of a tree (and behold some vision there.)

ha ha manohara, ki dekhinu ami, baliya murchita ha’ba

samvit paiya, kadiba gopane, smari’ du’hu kripa-lava (6)

I will exclaim: “Ha ha! How wonderful! What an amazing thing I have seen now!”

And I will faint on the spot. Regaining consciousness later, I will hide and weep

secretly, remembering that all this ecstasy is due to receiving just a tiny speck of Shri

Shri Gaura-Nitai’s mercy.
