   Nineteenth Sarga

shrimad-advaita-prabhu-kta shri-gauranga-kirttanam

  Shrimad Advaita Prabhu Performs Gauranga Kirtana

 tato bhakta-ganaih sarddha / nityananda-dhtah prabhuh

 kashinatha-gha shighram / agato jagad-ishvarah 1

   tatah - then; bhakta-ganaih - with the devotees; sardham - with; nityananda-dhtah - held by Nityananda; prabhuh - the Master; kashinatha-gham - to the house of Kashinatha; shighram - swiftly; agato - went; jagat-ishvarah - the Lord of all sentient beings.

  Thereafter supported by Nityananda, the Lord of the cosmic manifestation swiftly went to the home of Kashinatha Mishra in the company of His bhaktas.

 jagannatha-prasadanna / nityananda-samanvitah

 shrila-advaitadibhih sarddha / svarupadyair niveditam 2

   jagannatha-prasada-annam - the food tasted and given as mercy by Lord Jagannatha; nityananda; samanvitah - associating with; shrila-advaita-adibhih - with Shrila Advaita and others; sardham - with; svarupa-adyaih - headed by Svarupa Damodara; niveditam - offered.

   Gaura Hari along with Nityananda, Shrila Advaita, and other bhaktas, were offered the prasada food-remnants of Lord Jagannatha by the group of devotees headed by Svarupa.

 bhuktva catur-vvidha dravya / bhakta-sankalpa-palakah

 bhojayam asa svan bhaktan / putra-prayena lalayan 3

   bhuktva - having eaten; catu-vidham - four kinds; dravyam - ingredients; bhakta-sankalpa-palakah - fulfiller of the devotee's desires; bhojayam asa - fed; svan - own; bhaktan - His beloved; putra-prayena - just like sons; lalayan - cherishing.

  After He had eaten the four kinds of foodstuffs, Gaura fed His devotees, indulging them as a father would His sons by satisfying their every wish.

 sva bhunkva bhunkva bhunkveti vatsalya-rasa-murttiman

 jagad-ananda-svarupadyair / dvarair eva daya-nidhih 4

   svam - own; bhunkva, bhunkva, bhunkva - eat! eat! eat!; iti - thus; vatsalya-rasa-murtiman - the personification of paternal affection; jagadananda-svarupa-adyaih - headed by Jagadananda and Svarupa; dvaraih - by means of; eva - indeed; daya-nidhih - ocean of compassion.

  The ocean of compassion who appeared like paternal affection personified was assisted by Jagadananda, Svarupa, and others as He encouraged His devotees, "Eat! Eat! You must eat!"

 eva kramena pratyaka / sambodhya kaushalanvitah

 sambhojya bhuri-dravyena / catur-vvidhyena vainavan 5

   evam - thus; kramena - one by one; pratyakam - directly; sambodhya - having instructed; kaushala-anvitah - with expertise; sambhojya - to be eaten; bhuri-dravyena - with many ingredients; catu-vidhyena - with four kinds; vainavan - vaishnavas.

   Thus the Lord exhibited great expertise as He personally encouraged the vaishnavas one by one to eat the food of four varieties, which was prepared with many fine ingredients.

 gandushadi-kriyah sarvva / samapya jagad-ishvarah

 candana-pupa-malabhya / bhuayitva yatha-kramam 6

   gandusha - a handful of water; adi - headed by; kriyah - activities; sarvam - all; samapya - having performed; jagat-ishvarah - Lord of the cosmos; candana-pupa-malabhyam - with sandalwood pulp and flower garlands; bhuayitva - adorning; yatha-kramam - in order.

  Then after making everyone refresh their mouths by sipping handfuls of water mixed with cloves and nutmeg, the Jagadishvara adorned them in the order of their seniority with pulp of sandal and flower garlands.

 nityanandadvaita-mukhyan / bhaktan gauda-nivasinah

 utkala-sthan api shveta-dvipa-sthan vainavan prabhuh 7

 lalayam asa karuno / vatsalyad bhakta-vatsalah

 taih sama sukham asinah / sankirttana-kutuhali 8

   nityananda - the original form of a devotee; advaita - the incarnation of a devotee; mukhyan - headed by; bhaktan - devotees; gauda-nivasinah - residents of Bengal; utkala-sthan - residents of Orissa; api - also; shveta-dvipa-sthan - residents of Shveta-dvipa, Vrindavana; vainavan - the devotees; prabhuh - the Master; lalayam asa - He cherished; karunah - kind; vatsalyat - out of affection; bhakta-vatsalah - affectionate to His devotees; taih samam - with them; sukham - comfortably; asinah - seated; sankirtana - congregational chanting; kutuhali - enthused by.

   First Prabhu honored and cherished the vaishnavas residing in Gaua, headed by Nityananda and Advaita, and then those of Utkala and Shvetadvipa. The kind-hearted Lord, out of affection for His devotees, then sat at ease in their company, eager to perform sankirtana.

 rajajnaya maha-patrash / candaneshvara-sanjnakah

 bhaktan nivasayam asa / gehe gehe yatha-sukham 9

   raja-ajnaya - by order of the king; maha-patrah - the prime minister; candaneshvara; sanjnakah - known as; bhaktan - the devotees; nivasayam asa - gave accomodation; gehe gehe - in various houses; yatha-sukham - according to their pleasure.

  Next, by the order of the king, the prime minister named Candaneshvara provided residence for the bhaktas in various houses, according to their preference.

 eva bhakta-ganah sarvve / sankirtana-parayanah

 tithanti prabhuna sarddha / sankirtana-vinodina 10

   eva - thus; bhakta-ganah - devotees; sarve - all; sankirtana - congregational chanting; parayanah - absorbed; tithanti - stay; prabhuna sardham - with Prabhu; sankirtana - congregational chanting; vinodina - who took pleasure.

  However, all the bhaktas were eager for sankirtana and thus elected to stay with Mahaprabhu, who also delighted in sankirtana.

 prabhu-pritaye yad-dravya / tair anita prayatnatah

 tena vainava-patnibhih / pacita paramadarat 11

   prabhu-pritaye - for the pleasure of Prabhu; yat - which; dravyam - ingredients; taih - by them; anitam - brought; prayatnatah - with much care; tena - on His account; vainava-patnibhih - by the wives of the vaishnavas; pacitam - cooked; parama-adarat - with great reverence.

  For the pleasure of Mahaprabhu, the wives of the vaishnavas cooked with great reverence the foodstuffs they had carefully brought for Him from Bengal.

 anna catur-vvidhenapi / rasena sahita prabhuh

 bubhuje ca ghtaih sikta / sa-bhaktah sagrajah sukhi 12

   annam - food; catu-vidhena - of four kinds; api - also; rasena - flavorful; sahitam - with; prabhuh - the Master; bubhuje - ate; ca - and; ghtaih - with ghee; siktam - sprinkled; sa-bhaktah - with His bhaktas; sa-agrajah - with His elder brother; sukhi - happy.

  Together with His elder brother and His bhaktas, Prabhu happily ate the four varieties of flavorful foodstuffs, which were sprinkled with ghee.

 advaito bhagavan sakat / svayam odanam uttamam

 paktva su-madhura capi / nitva ta bharyaya saha 13

   advaitah - non-different (from Nityananda); bhagavan - the all-opulent Lord; sakat - directly; svayam - personally; odanam - rice; uttamam - excellent; paktva - having cooked; su-madhuram - very sweet; ca - and; api - also; nitva - brought; tam - that; bharyaya saha - by His wife.

  Bhagavan Shri Advaita personally prepared very relishable sweet rice from some fine grains His wife had brought.

 nibhta bhojayam asa / kia ghta-samanvitam

 sva-prana-vallabha kna-chaitanya bhakta-vatsalam 14

   nibhtam - in solitude; bhojayam asa - gave to eat; kiam - cooked-down milk and rice; ghta-samanvitam - with ghee; sva-prana-vallabham - the love of His very life; kna-chaitanyam - Radha-Krishna in one person; bhakta-vatsalam - lover of His bhaktas.

  Then in a solitary place He offered that sweetened rice mixed with milk and ghee to the beloved breath of His life, Shri Krishna Chaitanya, and the Lord reciprocated affectionately with His devotee.

 eva kramena shrivasa-panditadyah sa-patnikah

 seva cakrur bhagavato / gaurangasya yatha-sukham 15

   evam - similarly; kramena - in sequence; shrivasa-pandita-adyah - headed by Shrivasa Panita; sa-patnikah - with their wives; sevam cakruh - rendered service; bhagavatah - of the Lord; gaurangasya - of Gauranga; yatha-sukham - to their pleasure.

  Similarly, in the order of seniority beginning with Shrivasa Panita, the other bhaktas together with their wives offered service to Gauranga to their heart's content.

 tatash ca prema-gosvami / sammantrya sva-janaih saha

 navina gaura-candrasya / nama-sankirttana shubham 16

 karoti mandali-ktya / harena vainavaih saha

 ntyati paramoddanda / garjjati dhavati kvacit 17

   tatah - then; ca - and; prema-gosvami - Advaita _carya; sammantrya - inviting; sva-janaih saha - with His own men; navinam - novel; gaura-candrasya - of Gaura Candra; nama-sankirtanam; shubham - auspicious; karoti - He made; mandali-ktya - forming a circle; harena - with jubilation; vainavaih saha - together with the vaishnavas; ntyati - He dances; parama-uddandam - very intense; garjjati - He roars; dhavati - He runs; kvacit - sometimes.

  Then Shri Advaita _carya, the gosvami of prema assembled His own men and created a new form of sankirtana from the names of Gaura Candra. He jubilantly formed a circle of all the vaishnavas, and within it He danced very high, sometimes roaring and sometimes running.

 nityanando 'pi bhagavan / gauranga-bhava-bhavitah

 yasya ntya-padaghataih / kampate bhuvana-trayam 18

   nityanandah - eternally blissful Lord; api - although; bhagavan - the all-opulent Lord; gauranga-bhava-bhavitah - felt according to the mood of Gauranga; yasya - whose; ntya - dancing; pada-aghataih - by the striking of His feet; kampate - trembled; bhuvana-trayam - the three worlds.

  On that occasion, Shri Nityananda made the three worlds quake by the striking of His dancing feet. Although He is Himself the Supreme Lord, still every emotion that He feels is in harmony with Gauranga's desire.

 mat-prana-sarvvasva gaura-candra mam uddhara prabho

 nityananda-priya gaura / gadadhara-rasa-prada 19

   mat-prana-sarvasva - O all-in-all of my life-force; gaura-candra - O Gaura Candra; mam - me; uddhara - deliver; prabho - O Prabhu; nityananda-priya - O dear one of Nityananda; gaura - O golden Lord; gadadhara-rasa-prada - O bestower of rasa to Gadadhara.

  The devotees chanted, "O Gaura Candra! O all-in-all of My life force! Kindly deliver me, Prabhu. O beloved of Nityananda! O Golden Lord! O bestower of rasa on Gadadhara!

 shrivasadi-priya-prana / prema-da karunarnava

 eva sankirttana so 'pi / gaurangah kirtana-priyah 20

 kna-sankirttana matva / jagau prema-vashah svayam

 sa eva kirttananando / brahmanda purayan babhau 21

   shrivasa - of Shrivasa; adi - and the other devotees; priya-prana - O life and soul; prema-da - bestower of love for Krishna; karuna-arnava - O ocean of mercy; evam - thus; sankirtanam - congregational chanting; sah - He; api - also; gaurangah - the golden Lord; kirtana-priyah - who loves kirtana; kna-sankirtanam - congregational chanting of Krishna's names; matva - thinking; jagau - He sang; prema-vashah - controlled by love; svayam - Himself; sah - He; eva - indeed; kirtana-anandah - the happiness of kirtana; brahmandam - the universe; purayan - filling; babhau - He shone.

  "O life and soul of all the devotees headed by Shrivasa! O bestower of love for Krishna! O ocean of compassion!" Then Shri Gauranga, who dearly loved kirtana, decided to personally perform Krishna-sankirtana. He sang from the depths of His heart, moved by His great love for Krishna. His form shone radiantly with the joy of kirtana, and He filled the entire universe with that joy.

 sarvve pashyanti ntyanta / gaura-candra sva-sammukham

 yatha madhya-gata kna / balaka vana-bhojinah 22

   sarve - all; pashyanti - they see; ntyantam - dancing; gaura-candram - the Golden Moon; sva-sammukham - face to face with Him; yatha - as; madhya-gatam - sitting in the center; knam - the all-attractive; balakah - boys; vana-bhojinah - eaters of the forest picnic.

  Each of the devotees beheld Gaura Candra dancing face to face with himself, just as each of the cowherd boys of Vraja saw Shri Krishna seated in the center of the circle during their forest picnic.

 ishvaro 'pi bhagavatadvaitacaryyena sayutah

 nityanando maha-tejah / premonmadena ntyati 23

   ishvarah - the Supreme Lord; api - although; bhagavata - by the Lord; advaita-acaryena - by Advaita _carya; sayutah - together with; nitya-anandah - the original form of a devotee; maha-tejah - very powerful; prema-unmadena - by the madness of love; ntyati - He dances.

  Although Nityananda is the Supreme Lord and is inconceivably powerful, still in the company of Advaitacarya, who is also the Lord, He became maddened by love for Krishna and danced.

 matta-parindra-vikrantah / karayann avani-talam

 gauranga-prema-data yas / tasya ki citram eva tat 24

   matta-parindra - intoxicated lion; vikrantah - strong; karayan - causing to do; avani-talam - the earth planet; gauranga-prema - love for Gauranga; data - donor; yah - who; tasya - His; kim - what? citram - astonishing; eva - indeed; tat - that.

  Shri Advaita appeared very powerful just like an intoxicated lion, and He inundated the earth with chanting and dancing. He is the magnanimous bestower of Gauranga-prema. What wonderful deed is impossible for Him to perform?

 gadadharo 'pi gauranga-priti-do ntyati sukham

 shrivasadyah sukha sarvve / ntyanti gaura-cetasah 25

   gadadharah - the energy of a devotee; api - also; gauranga - the Golden Lord; priti-dah - giver of pleasure; ntyati - he dances; sukham - happily; shrivasa; adyah - headed by; sukham - happily; sarve - all; ntyanti - they dance; gaura-cetasah - their minds fixed on Gaura.

  Gadadhara also danced to his heart's content, bringing delight to Gauranga, and all the bhaktas headed by Shrivasa danced jubilantly with their minds fixed on the form of Gaura.

 etad antar-gata yasya / gauranga-guna-kirttanam

 sa eva saki nanye ca / kotisho jnana-paragah 26

   etat - this; anta-gatam - enter within; yasya - who can; gauranga-guna-kirtanam - the chanting of the qualities of Gauranga; sah - he; eva - indeed; saki - directly understand; na - not; anye - others; ca - and; kotishah - millions; jnana-paragah - fully conversant in transcendental knowledge.

  Only one who can enter into the chanting of Gauranga's qualities can actually comprehend them, and not millions of others who may be fully conversant with transcendental knowledge.

   Thus ends the Nineteenth Sarga entitled "Shrimad Advaita Prabhu Performs Gauranga Kirtana," in the Fourth Prakrama of the great poem Shri Chaitanya Carita.
