Fifteenth Sarga

navadvipa-vihara-shri-puruottama-darshanam

Pleasure Pastimes in Navadvipa and Darshana of Jagannatha Svami

 tatash ca kna-chaitanya-nityanandau jagad-guru

 shriladvaitacarya-geha / jagmatuh prema-vihvalau 1

   tatah - then; ca - and; kna-chaitanya-nityanandau - Gaura and Nitai; jagat-guru - the gurus of all sentient beingy; shrila-advaita-acaryam - the incarnation of a devotee; geham - to the house; jagmatuh - they went; prema - love; vihvalau - overwhelmed.

  Then Krishna Chaitanya and Nityananda, the two gurus of all sentient beings, went to the house of Shrila Advaitacarya while immersed in prema.

   

 tau dtva sahasotthayadvaitacaryo maheshvarah

 sa-ganah prema-vivasho / dhtva tac-caranambujam 2

   tau - Them; dtva - having seen; sahasa - suddenly; utthaya - rising; advaita-acaryah - the avatara of a devotee; maha-ishvarah - great controller; sa-ganah - with his men; prema-vivashah - overcome with love; dhtva - held; tat-carana-ambujam - Their lotus feet.

  When Advaita _carya, who is the plenary portion of Lord Shiva, saw Gaura-Nitai coming, he and his men immediately rose and fell clasping Their lotus feet, overcome with love of God.

 prakalya vidhivad dharat / pitva shirasi dharayan

 nanartta vaso dhunvano / matta-keshari-vikramah 3

   prakalya - bathing; vidhi-vat - by vaishnava principle; harat - out of joy; pitva - drinking; shirasi - on His head; dharayan - holding; nanarta - danced; vasah - garment; dhunvanah - waving; matta-keshari - maddened lion; vikramah - prowess.

   After Shri Advaita bathed Their feet, in accord with the vaishnava precept, He ecstatically drank that footwash and clasped Their feet upon His head. Then with the vigor of a intoxicated lion, He danced and waved His upper cloth in the air.

 tam alingya praharena / pranamya ca punah punah

 tena sampujitau pritau / shaly-anna-bhojanadina 4

   tam - Him; alingya - embracing; praharena - with great gladness; pranamya - bowing down; ca - and; punah punah - again and again; tena - by Him; sampujitau - worshipped; pritau - pleased; shali-anna-bhojana-adina - foods beginning with rice.

  In great jubilation, He embraced Them and prostrated Himself repeatedly on the ground before Them. Then, to Their loving delight, He offered Them elaborate worship as well as many fine foods beginning with rice.

 sankirttana-sukhe magnau / tena sarddha jagad-guru

 ntyantau bhakta-vargaish ca / vetitau parameshvarau 5

   sankirtana - the congregational chanting of Krishna's names; sukhe - in the happiness; magnau - immersed; tena sardham - with Him; jagat-guru -two gurus of the cosmos; ntyantau - dancing; bhakta-vargaih - by the assembly of bhaktas; ca - and; vetitau - surrounded; parama-ishvarau - two supreme controllers.

  Thereafter those two Supreme Personalties, who had appeared as the gurus of all living entities, became immersed in the joy of sankirtana in company with Advaita _carya and danced, surrounded by the assembled bhaktas.

 tata acaryah sahasa / bahyam asadya sa-tvaram

 anayya shri-navadvipat / sa-bhakta shri-shaci tu tam 6

   tatah - then; acaryah - Shri Advaita; sahasa - suddenly; bahyam - outside; asadya - went; sa-tvaram - quickly; anayya - brought; shri-navadvipat - from Navadvipa; sa-bhaktam - with the devotees; shri-shacim - Mother Shaci; tu - indeed; tam - her.

  Then the _carya suddenly went outside and swiftly brought Shri Shaci Devi from Navadvipa along with the devotees from that area.

 bubhuje sa taya capi / tatha vainava-patnibhih

 saha pacitam anna ca / payasadi-catur-vvidham 7

   bubhuje - He ate; sah - He; taya - by her; ca - and; api tatha - as well; vainava-patnibhih - with the wives; saha - in company; pacitam - cooked; annam - food; ca - and; payasa-adi - sweet rice and so on; catu-vidham - four kinds.

  Gaura ate the foodstuffs of four kinds, beginning with the sweet rice that was cooked by her and the wives of the vaishnavas.

 puri-shri-madhavah kna-premananda-sukharnavah

 tasyapy aradhana-tithau / caitrasya shukla-pakake 8

 dvadashya bhojayam asa / dvau prabhu sagraha muda

 tatha bhakta-ganan sarvvan / acaryo 'dvaita ishvarah 9

   puri-shri-madhavah - Madhavendra Puri; kna-prema - of love of Krishna; ananda-sukha-arnavah - blissful ocean of happiness; tasya - his; api - indeed; aradhana-tithau - on the date of worship; caitrasya - of the month Caitra; shukla-pakake - on the bright fortnight; dvadashyam - on the twelfth day; bhojayam asa - He fed; dvau prabhu - the two Prabhus; sa-agraham - with enthusiasm; muda - gladly; tatha - also; bhakta-ganan - the group of devotees; sarvan - all; acaryah - the teacher of bhakti; advaita-ishvarah - the Supreme Lord, Advaita.

    Shri Madhava Puri is a blissful ocean of Krishna-premananda. On His appearance day, the dvadashi of the bright fortnight in the month of Caitra, the Supreme Lord Advaitacarya eagerly fed the two Prabhus as well as the entire assembly of devotees.

 tasya tena sama kna-chaitanya-vallabhena ca

 svaya maha-prasada hi / bhuktvanandam avapnuyat 10

   tasyam - on that date; tena - with Him; samam - in the company; kna-chaitanya-vallabhena - with the beloved of Krishna Chaitanya; ca - and; svayam - spontaneously; maha-prasadam - great mercy of the Lord; hi - certainly; bhuktva - having eaten; anandam - joy; avapnuyat - got.

  At that holy festival, Advaitacarya felt heartfelt ananda while eating maha-prasada in the company of Shri Krishna Chaitanya and His beloved Nitai.

 shri-madhava-puri-prema-rasau shri-shaci-nandanau

 hari-sankirttananandau / bhaktaih saha nanarttatuh 11

   shri-madhava-puri-prema-rasau - tasting the mellows of Shri Madhava Puri's love; shri-shaci-nandanau - the sons of Shaci; hari-sankirtana-anandau - feeling the bliss of Hari sankirtana; bhaktaih - with the devotees; saha - together; nanartatuh - danced.

  The two sons of Shaci tasted the rasa of Shri Madhava Puri's love, felt the bliss of Hari-nama-sankirtana, and danced along with all the devotees.

 eva ktva dina tatra / sthitva mat-vashanugau

 ta prasadya madhuraya / gira sashata-vigrahau 12

   evam - thus; ktva - done; dinam - day; tatra - there; sthitva - passed; mat-vashanugau - submissive followers of Their mother; tam - her; prasadya - having pleased; madhuraya - with sweet; gira - words; sashata-vigrahau - two handsome forms.

  The two handsome Lords passed the day there as submissive followers of Their mother and pleased her very much by Their sweet words.

 acaryadin bhakta-ganan / tatha shrivasaka prabhum

 sasantvayya sukhenapi / gamanaya ktodyamau 13

   acarya-adin - Shri Advaita, etc.; bhakta-ganan - the assembly of devotees; tatha - also; shrivasakam - the pure devotee; prabhum - the master; sasantvaya - pacifying; sukhena - congenially; api - and; gamanaya - for departure; kta-udyamau - made attempt.

  After charmingly pacifying the hearts of the _carya and the other bhaktas, especially Shrivasa Prabhu, They attempted to depart.

 tea vikridita ke' pi / varnayanti mahatmanam

 yatha kne madhu-puri-gate shri-vraja-vasinah 14

   team - Their; vikriditam - playful talk; ke api - who indeed?; varnayanti - can describe; maha-atmanam - of those great souls; yatha - as; kne - when Lord Krishna; madhu-puri-gate - went to Madhu-puri; shri-vraja-vasinah - the residents of Vraja.

  Who indeed can describe the play of all those great souls? They seemed like the Vraja-vasis as Krishna departed for Madhupuri.

 tithanti tan-mayah sarvve / tathaite vainavottamah

 cintayantash ca tal-lila / babhuvus tan-mayah kila 15

   tithanti - they stood; tat-mayah - absorbed in Them; sarve - all; tatha - also; ete - they; vainava-uttamah - topmost vaishnavas; cintayantah - meditating on; ca - and; tat-lilam - Their pastimes; babhuvuh - were; tat-mayah - having an identical mood as Them; kila - truly.

  All those topmost vaishnavas remained standing there with their minds absorbed in Gaura and Nitai, and contemplated Their divine pastimes until they verily became of one nature with Them.

 kna-ramau ca tav etau / tatra te ca mahattamah

 upameya-gatir jneyah / kna-prana babhuh sada 16

   kna-ramau - the two divine brothers; ca - and; tau - Those; etau - These; tatra - there; te - they; ca - and; mahattamah - greatest of the great souls; upameya-gatih - the process of comparison; jneyah - the things to be known; kna-pranah - the life-breaths of Krishna; ubhau - both; sada - always.

  Those same two Persons, who had appeared formerly as Krishna and Rama, had come again as Gaura and Nitai. The supremely great devotees who held Krishna dearer than their life-breath could understand these things by means of comparison.

 tatah svaya shri-jagad-ishvarav ubhau / shrimaj-jagannatha-didkayanvitau

 prajagmatuh shri-puruottama prabhu / sva-bhakta-vndaih parisevitau dhruvam 17

   tatah - then; svayam - Themselves; shri-jagat-ishvarau - the two controllers of the universe; ubhau - both; shrimat-jagat-natha-didkaya - with the desire to see Lord Jagannatha; anvitau - both filled with; prajagmatuh - went; shri-puruottamam - Jagannatha Puri; prabhu - the two Lords; sva-bhakta-vndaih - by Their own devotees; parisevitau - both nicely served; dhruvam - truly.

  Then those two Lords of the universe, desiring the vision of Jagannatha, travelled on to the Lord's eternal abode of Shri Purushottama. As They travelled, the group of devotees in Their company rendered the two Prabhus all service.

 

 agatya ketra bhuvanaika-bandhu / dtva jagannatha-mukharavindam

 premashru-purnau kala-dhauta-vigrahau / babhuvatur gadgada-ruddha-kanthakau 18

   agatya - arriving; ketram - Puri; bhuvana-eka-bandhu - the two sole friends of the worlds; dtva - having seen; jagat-natha - the Lord of the universe; mukha-aravindam - lotus face; prema-ashru - tears of love; purnau - both filled; kala-dhauta-vigrahau - two golden forms; babhuvatuh - They were; gadgada - faltering; ruddha-kanthakau - both throats choked.

  Upon Their arrival at Kshetra, those two Persons, who are the sole source of friendship for the peoples of the worlds, saw the lotus face of Jagannatha Svami. Then Their golden bodies became bathed by tears of prema, Their throats choked-up and Their words came falteringly.

 shri-kashi-mishrasya ghe gatau punah / shri-rama-knau kila bhakta-vetitau

 shri-sarvvabhaumadaya eva sarvve / tatragatah ketra-nivasino 'pare 19

   shri-kashi-mishrasya - of Shri Kashi Mishra; ghe - in the house; gatau - went; punah - again; shri-rama-knau - Krishna Chaitanya and Nityananda Rama; kila - indeed; bhakta-vetitau - surrounded by bhaktas; shri-sarvabhauma-adayah - headed by Sarvabhauma; eva - indeed; sarve - all; tatra - there; agatah - came; ketra-nivasinah - residents of Kshetra; apare - other.

  Surrounded by devotees, Shri Rama and Krishna again entered the house of Kashi Mishra. Then all of Their intimate associates headed by Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya as well as all other residents of Kshetra assembled there.

 pashyanti tat-pada-saroja-vaibhava / pranamya bhumau pranipatya te muda

 baddhanjali sashru-vilola-locanah / sa-gadgada kna-rasabdhi-magnah 20

   pashyanti - they see; tat-pada-saroja - Their lotus feet; vaibhavam - glory; pranamya - bowing down; bhumau - on the earth; pranipatya - falling down; te - they; muda - gladly; baddha-anjalim - folded hands; sa-ashru - with tears; vilola-locanah - rolling eyes; sa-gadgadam - with stammering; kna-rasa-abdhi - ocean of Krishna rasa; magnah - merged.

  On seeing the glory of Their Lordships' lotus feet, they fell to the ground and blissfully offered obeisances. Then, with hands folded in supplication, reeling eyes filled with tears, and choked voices they became drowned in the ocean of the mellows of Krishna.

 utthaya tau sa-tvaram eva tan api / alingya premna hi mudanvitau prabhu

 vndavanasya madhura kathamta / shushravayam asatur eva mana-dau 21

   utthaya - rising; tau - They two; sa-tvaram - swiftly; eva - indeed; tan - they; api - even; alingya - embracing; premna - with love; hi - certainly; muda-anvitau - filled with gladness; prabhu - the Prabhus; vndavanasya - of Vrindavana; madhuram - sweet; katha-amtam - nectar of the topics; shushravayam asatu - they narrated; eva - indeed; mana-dau - giving respect.

  The two Prabhus quickly rose and lovingly, happily and respectfully embraced them all. Then They narrated the Vrindavana-kathamtam, sweet nectar tales of Vrindavana.

   Thus ends the Fifteenth Sarga entitled "Pleasure-Pastimes in Navadvipa and Darshana of Jagannatha Svami," in the Fourth Prakrama of the great poem Shri Chaitanya Carita.
