avadhi prema-danam karoti
papi tapi surapi nikhila-jana
sarvan dharman svakiyan visham
iva vishayam samparityajya krishnam
gayanty-uccaih pramattas tad avadhi
vikalah prema-sindhau vimagnah
gaurangah-Lord Gauranga; prema-murtih-form of love; jagati-in the universe; yat-avadhi-since; prema-danam-gift of love; karoti-makes; papi-sinner; tapi-sufferer of disease; surapi-drunkard; nikhila-jana-all the people; dhanasya-of the wealth; apahari-thief; kritaghnah-grateful; sarvan-all; dharman-duties; svakiyan-wives; visham-poison; iva-like; vishayam-sense objects; samparityajya-completely abandoning; krishnam-the name Krishna; gayanti-singing; uccaih-loudly; pramattah-very intoxicated; tat-avadhi-then; vikalah-exhausted; prema-sindhau-into the ocean of love; vimagnah-they sank.
Ever since Shri Gauranga, the personification of love, began distributing krishna-prema, all the ungratful, the drunkards, the sinful, and the suffering, they all gave up their desire for sense gratification and sinful activities as poison and drown themselves in the ocean of happiness of the loud congregational chanting of the holy names.
