6. SANTANU-KUNDA (Satoha-Grama)
This is the place where King Santanu performed austerities to get Bhismadeva as his son. He received the benedictions that he would get a son who would be famous throughout the world and who would be able to choose the time of his death. Maharaja Santanu begot Bhismadeva from the womb of his wife, Ganga-devi. It is said that Krishna would come to this kunda and play with the cowherd boys on its bank. The village that Santanu-Kunda is located in is called Satona-grama.There is a temple here situated on a hill, in the center of Santanu-Kunda. There is a black Deity of Krishna in this temple called Santanu-Bihari Krishna, standing alone with His flute. At His feet is a collection of Shalagram Shilas. Many childless couples come to worship this Deity and pray for children.
