50. MAAN SOROVARA
Maan means "anger." This place is called Maan Sarovara because Srimati Radharani came here in the mood of maan. Maan is when Radharani acts angry and feels hurt because of Krishna's neglect. There is a temple on the bank of this lake dedicated to Srimati Radharani. It is said that Lord Siva baihed in this lake to obtain the form of a gopi (see Gopisvara Tertple for story).Maan Sarovara is located in a peaceful place, totally surrounded by woods. Not many people visit this place and until you get fairly close to this place most people will not know where it is located.
How to Get Here: This place is across the Yamuna river from the town of Vrindavana. To get here you first go to Mathura and cross the bridge there. After crossing the bridge you continue straight on that road (Hathras Road) for about 20 minutes until you reach the town of Raya. You then make a left over the railway tracks onto the road to Mat. You drive about 7 km, and then you make a left turn down a dirt road. Maan Sarovara is a good sized kunda about two km down this dirt road, where the road ends. To find the di'l road where you turn at, you will have to ask some local people. It is located in a peaceful location and is definitely not crowded with people.
