Lord Krishna lived in Gokula for three years and four months. Because there were so many attempts on Krishna's lives from various demons, Nanda Maharaja decided to move to another location. On the way to Vrindavana they came to this place and stayed for some time.How to Get Here: This is the area where the turn off to Vrindavana is located on the Delhi-Agra Road. If you turn right after leaving the ISKCON temple and follow the road until it reaches the road to Delhi, this place is Chatikara.
Garuda Govinda Temple
The Deity in this temple is Krishna in His Vishnu form, with 12 arms, being carried by Garuda. This Deity is said to have been installed by Vajranabha. Once Krishna climbed on the back of Sridama, who had taken the form of Garuda. This is a well-known temple in the Vrindavana area.A special festival day in this temple is Akshaya Tritiya. This festival takes place in the month of Vaisakha (April-May).On this day the 12-handed Deity of Govinda is seen mounted on His bird carrier, Garuda."Garuda appears to belong to the Kinnara Planet. The inhabitants of the Kinnara planet have the same features as Garuda. Their bodily features are like those of a human being, but they have wings. These inhabitants of Kinnaraloka are very expert in singing the glories of the Lord. As they fly, their wings vibrate the hymns of the Vedas." (Srimad Bhagavatam 4.30.6 purport)
How to Get Here: This temple is a little outside of Vrindavana To get here you take the road from the ISKCON temple towards the Delhi-Agra road for 5 km. When youreach the Delhi-Agra road, you turn right going towards Delhi. You then turn right at the road after the petrol (gas) station, after about half a km. This temple is then about half a km down the road, all by itself. It is convenient to visit this temple on the way to Radha-Kunda or Varsana.
