Eight Meditations on the Feet of the Spiritual Master

Text 1

 

priatah shri-tulasi-natih sva-karatas tat-pindikalepanam

     tat-sammukhyam atha sthitih smritir atha sva-svaminoh padayoh

tat-sevartha-bahu-prasuna-cayanam nityam svayam yasya tam

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     priatah - early in the morning; shri-tulasi-natih - bowing down before Tulasi-devi; sva-karatah - with his won hand;  tat-pinnikalepanam - anointing her base; tat-sammukhyam - facing her; atha - indeed; sthitih - situation; smritih - remenrance; atha - then;  sva-svaminoh - of His two masters; padayoh - of the feet;  tat-sevartha - to serve Them; bahu-prasuna - many flowers; cayanam - gathering; nityam - regularly; svayam - personally; yasya - of whom; tam - him; shri-radharamanam - Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami; muda - happily; guru-varam - spiritual master; vande - I offer my respectful obeisances; nipatya - falling; avanau - to the ground.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who every morning bows down before Tulasi-devi, with his own hands anoints her base, sitting before her meditates on the feet of his two masters, and then gathers flowers to serve His masters.

 

 

Text 2

 

madhyahne tu nijesha-pada-kamala-dhyanarcanannarpana-

     pradakshinya-nati-stuti-pranayita nrityam satam sangatih

shrimad-bhagavatartha-sidhu-madhurasvadah sada yasya tam

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     madhyahne - at midday; tu - indeed; nija - own; isha - masters' pada - feet; kamala - lotus; dhyana - meditation; arcana - worship; anna - food; arpana - offering;  pradakshinya - circumambulation; nati - obeisances; stuti - prayers; pranayita - with love; nrityam - dancing; satam - of the sainlty devotees; sangatih - association; shrimad-bhagavata - of Shrimad-Bhagavatam; artha - meaning; sidhu - nectar;  madhura - sweetness; asvadah - rleishing; sada - always.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who at midday meditates on the lotus feet of his two masters, worships them, offers food to Them, circumambulates Them, offers prayers to Them, loves Them, and dances before Them. He associates with the devotees, and in their company regularly tastes the nectar of Shrimad-Bhagavatam.

 

 

Text 3

 

prakshalyanghri-yugam nati-stuti-jayam kartum mano 'ty-utsukam

     sayam goshtham upagatam vana-bhuvo drashtum nija-svaminam

premananda-bharena netra-putayor dhara cirad yasya tam

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     prakshalya - washing; anghri-yugam - the feet; nati-stuti-jayam - bowing dopwn and offering prayers; kartum - to do; manah - heart; aty-utsukam - very eager; sayam - at sunset; goshtham - to Vraja; upagatam - gone;  vana-bhuvah - of the forest; drashtum - to see; nija-svaminam - his master; premananda-bharena - with great bliss; netra-putayoh - in the eyes; dhara - a flood;  cirat - for a long time.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who as the evening approaches washes his master's feet, bows down before Him, and offers prayers. From the forest he goes to Vraja to see his master. Gazing at his master, for a long time his eyes are flooded with tears of bliss.

 

 

Text 4

 

ratrau shri-jayadeva-padya-pathanam tad-gita-ganam rasa-

     svado bhakta-janaih kadacid abhitah sankirtane nartanam

radha-krishna-vilasa-kely-anubhavad unnidrata yasya tam

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     ratrau - at night; shri-jayadeva-padya-pathanam - reading the verses of Shri Jayadeva Gosvami; tad-gita-ganam - his songs; rasa - nectar; asvadah - tasting; bhakta-janaih - with the devotees; kadacit - sometimes; abhitah - everywhere; sankirtane - in sankirtana; nartanam - dancing; radha-krishna - of Shri Shri Radha-Krishna; vilasa-kely - pastimes; anubhavat - from directly seeing; unnidrata - awake.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who, surrounded by the devotees, in the evening sometimes relishes the nectar of Shri Jayadeva's songs and sometimes dances in sankirtana. Sometimes, directly seeing Shri Shri Radha-Krishna's pastimes, he does not sleep at night.

 

 

Text 5

 

nindety-aksharayor dvayam paricayam praptam na yat-karnayoh

     sadhunam stutim eva yah sva-rasanad asvadayaty anv-aham

vishvasyam jagad eva yasya na punah kutrapi dona-grahah

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     ninda - blasphemy; ity - thus; aksharayoh - of the syllables; dvayam - the pair; paricayam - awareness;  praptam - attained; na - not; yat-karnayoh - in his ears; sadhunam - of the devotees; stutim - praise; eva - indeed; yah - who; sva-rasanat - from his tongue;  asvadayaty - relishes; anv-aham - day after day; vishvasyam - faith; jagat - world; eva - indeed; yasya - who; na - not; punah - again; kutrapi - anywhere; dosha-grahah - accepting faults.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who never allows the two syllables  ninda" (I criticize him) enter his ears, who day after day tastes with his tongue the nectar of praising other devotees, and who believes in others' goodness and never believes others have done wrong.

 

 

Text 6

 

yah ko 'py astu padabjayor nipatito yah svi-karoty eva tam

     shighram sviya-kripa-balena kurute bhaktau tu matvaspadam

nityam bhakti-rahasya-shikshana-vidhir yasya sva-bhrityeshu tam

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     yah - who; ko 'py - someone; astu - may be; padabjayoh - at the lotus feet; nipatitah - fallen; yah - who; svi-karoty - accepts; eva - indeed; tam - him; shighram - at once; sviya-kripa-balena - by the power of his mercy; kurute - does; bhaktau - in devotional service; tu - indeed; matva - considering;  aspadam - abode; nityam - eternal; bhakti - of devotional service; rahasya - the confidential truths; shikshana-vidhih - teaching; yasya - of whom; sva-bhrityeshu - to his own servants.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who accepts every sincere soul that who falls down to offer obeisances at his feet. He mercifully engages them all in devotional service. To his disciples he regularly teaches the confidential truths of devotional service.

 

 

Text 7

 

sarvangair nata-bhritya-murdhni kripaya yasya sva-padarpanam

     smitva caru-kripavaloka-sudhaya tan-manasodasanam

tat-premodaya-hetave sva-padayoh sevopadeshah svayam

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     sarvangaih - with every limb; nata - bowed down; bhritya - servants; murdhni - on the head; kripaya - mercifully; yasya - of whom; sva-padarpanam - offering his own feet; smitva - smiling; caru - beautiful; kripa - merciful; avaloka - glance; sudhaya - with the nectar; tan-manasa - of his heart; udasanam - renunciation; tat-prema - spiritual love; udaya - rising; hetave - for the purpose; sva-padayoh - of his feet; seva - service; upadeshah - teaching; svayam - personally.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who mercifully places his feet on the heads of his disciples as they offer dandavat obeisances. With his graceful smiling glance of mercy he creates in his disciples hearts renunciation of material desires. By his instructions and by service to his feet he makes pure love for Lord Krishna rise within his disciples.

 

 

Text 8

 

radhe krishna iti pluta-svara-yutam namamritam nathayor

     jihvagre natayan nirantaram aho no vetti vastu kvacit

yat kincid vyavahara-sadhakam api premnaiva magno 'sti yah

     shri-radharamanam– muda guru-varam– vande nipatyavanau

 

     radhe - O Radha; krishna - O Krishna; iti - thusthus;  pluta-svara-yutam - with long syllables; namamritam - the nectar of the holy names; nathayoh - of the two masters;  jihvagre - on thr tip of the tongue; natayan - causing to dance; nirantaram - always; ahah - aga; nah - not; vetti - knows; vastu - thing; kvacit - something; yat - what; kincit - something;vyavahara - action; sadhakam - engaged; api - also; premna - with love; eva - indeed; magnah - plunged; asti - is; yah - who.

 

 

     Falling to the ground, I offer my respectful obeisances to my spiritual master, Shri Radha-ramana Gosvami, who, drawing out the words,  Radha! Krishna!", made the nectar names of his two masters dance on his tongue. He did not know anything of material activities, for he was always plunged in the nectar of spiritual love.

 

 

Text 9

 

tvat-padambuja-sidhu-sucakataya padyashtakam sarvatha

     yatam yat-paramanutam prabhu-vara prodyat-kripa-varidhe

mac-ceto-bhramaro 'valambya tad idam prapyavilambam bhavat-

     sangam manju-nikunja-dhamni yushatam tat-svaminoh saurabham

 

     tvat - of you; padambuja - of the lotus feet; sidhu - the nectar; sucakatayaby indicating; padyashtakam - eight verses; sarvatha - inall respects; yatam - attained; yat-paramanutam - an atomic particle; prabhu-vara - O best of masters; prodyat - rising; kripa - mercy; varidhe - O ocean; mat - of me; cetah - of the heart; bhramarah - the bumblebee; avalambya - resting; tad idam - that; prapya - attaining; avilambam - without delay; bhavat - of you; sangam - the association; manju - beautiful;nikunja - forest grove; dhamni - in the abode; yushatam - mayserve; tat-svaminoh - of his two masters; saurabham - the fragrance.

 

 

     O my master, O rising ocean of mercy, these eight verses show a tiny atomic particle of the nectar of your feet. O master, I pray that the bumblebee of my heart, staying always in your company, will become attracted by the fragrance of your two masters in the beautiful forest groves of Vraja.
