Vishnu Sukta

visnor nukam viryani pravocam yah parthivani vimame rajamsi  yo askabhayaduttaram sadhastham vicakramanas tredhorugayo |

visnor aratamasi visnor prsthamasi visnoh snyaptre stho | visnoh syurasi visnor dhruvamasi vaishnavam asi visnave tva || 1 ||

 

"I enthusiastically glorify the pastimes of Lord Vishnu, who created the three worlds; who sustained the lofty aggregate site (of the spheres); who thrice traversed the universe, who is praised by the exalted."

 

"You are the front of Vishnu's brow, You are the back of Vishnu, You are the corners of Vishnu's mouth ???

 

 

tadasya priyamabhi patho asyam | naro yatra deva yavo madanti | urukramasya sahi bandhur ittha | visno pade parame madhva utsah || 2 ||

 

"May I attain His path, in which transcendentalists delight; (the path) of the wide-stepping Vishnu, in whose exalted association there is eternal happiness; for to such a degree is He a friend (of the pious)."

 

pra tad visnuh stavate viryaya | mrgo na bhimah kucaro giristhah | yasyo rusu trisu vikramanesu | adhiksiyanti bhuvanani visva || 3 ||

 

"Vishnu is therefore glorified, that by His prowess He is like a fearful, ravenous, and mountain- haunting wild beast, and because that in His three paces all the worlds abide"

 

paro matraya tanuva vrdhana| na te mahittva manvasnuvanti | ubhe te vidma rajasi prthivya visno deva tvam | paramasya vitse || 4 ||

 

"Expanding with a body beyond all measure, Your devotees cannot comprehend your magnitude. We know of the earth and the heavenly planets, but You O transcendental Vishnu, are of the highest abode."

 

vicakrame prthivim esa etam | ksetraya visnor manuse dasasyan(e) |

dhruvaso asya kirayo janasah | uruksitim sujanima cakara ||5 ||

 

"Vishnu traversed the earth for a dwelling which He was desirous of giving to His devotees (the demigods); Firm are those who are His devotees; He, who is the origin of good deeds, has made a spacious dwelling for His devotees."

 

 

trir devah prthivim esa etam | vicakrame satarcasam mahitva |

pra visnur astu tavasas taviyan (e) | tvesam-hyasyasthavirasya nama || 6 ||

ato deva avantu no yato visnur vicakrame | prthivyah sapta dhamabhih || 7 ||

 

"May the demigods preserve us (from that portion) of the earth whence Vishnu (aided) by the seven metres, stepped."

 

idam visnur vicakrame tredha nidadhe padam | samudham asya pagm sure || 8 ||

 

"Vishnu traversed this world; three times He planted His foot, and the whole world was collected in the dust of His footstep."

 

 

trini pada vicakrame visnur gopa adabhyah | ato dharmani dharayan (e) || 9 ||

 

"Vishnu, the preserver, the invincible, stepped three steps, thereby upholding righteous acts."

 

 

visnoh karmani pasyata yato vratani paspase | indrasya yujyah sakha || 10 ||

 

"Behold the pastimes of Lord Vishnu, through which (the devotee) accomplishes pious activities. He is the worthy friend of Indra."

 

tad visnoh paramam padam sada pasyanti surayah | diviva caksur atatam || 11 ||

 

"Just as the suns rays in the sky are extended to the mundane vision, so in the same way the wise and learned devotees always see the abode of Lord Vishnu."

 

tad vipraso vipanyavo jagrvam sah samindhate | visnor yat paramam padam || 12||

 

"Because those highly praiseworthy and spiritually awake devotees are able to see the spiritual world, they are also able to reveal that supreme abode of Lord Vishnu."
