On Srila Prabhupada

The Brahma-vaivarta Purana describes a conversation between Sri Krishna and Ganga Devi. On behalf of the sacred rivers (Yamuna, Kaveri, Godavari, Sindhu, Sarasvati and Narmada), Ganga Devi says, "Lord Krishna, we see that Your pastimes are ending and that people are becoming more materiaUstic. After You leave, all the sinful people of Kah-yuga will take bath in our waters, and we will become overwhelmed with sinful reactions."Lord Krishna smiled and replied, "Be patient. After 5,000 years My mantra upasaka (worshiper of the holy name) will appear and spread the chanting of the holy name everywhere. Not only in India but all over the world people will chant 'Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.' By this chanting the whole world will become eka vama (one class or designation), namely, hari-bhaktas, devotees of the Supreme Lord Krishna. Because the devotees of Hari are pure, anyone who contacts them will become purified of sinful reactions. These pure devotees will visit India and purify you of your sinful reactions by bathing in your sacred waters. This period of worldwide chanting of Hare Krishna will continue for 10,0(K) years."After that the devotees will see Kali's full force overtake the world. At that time, you sacred rivers should hide under the earth, as Sarasvati has already done, and wait for the next Satya-yuga."The Caitanya-mangala says that Lord Caitanya also foretold the appearance of an empowered devotee to spread chanting worldwide: "I want to flood the whole world with the chanting of the holy names. I will personally preach and flood India with harinama-sankirtana. My senapati bhakta (commander in chief) will come, preach in distant countries and flood the world with the chanting of Hare Krishna."Narada Muni also foretold extraordinary worldwide preaching. In the Padma Purana, Bhagavata Mahatmyam (2.5-7), he says: "O Bhakti Devi, there is no age like Kali because you will be established inevery house and in every heart. Hear my vow. If I do not preach your message, subdue all other religions and make devotional festivals predominant, then I shall not be considered the servant of Lord Hari. In Kali-yuga those people who follow you, even if they are sinful, will attain Lord Krishna's abode without fear."On two occasions Srila Prabhupada said that Narada Muni was attending his programs. In London, at Bury Place, Prabhupadd told devotees to put a small asana on the altar for Narada Muni because he was attending the kirtanas. In America Prabhupada held a sparsely attended program but said that sage Narada was present.Unlike anyone else Srila Prabhupada fulfilled Lord Caitanya's prediction—prthivite ache yata nagaradi grama, sarvatra pracara haibe more nama: in every town and village of the world. My name will be heard. {Caitanya-bhagavata, Antya 4.126)In the 180Os, Srila Bhaktivinoda

Thakura wrote in his magazine Sajjana-tosani, "Soon there will be a time when the chanting of Krishna's name will be heard in England, France, Russia, Germany, and America."From the above passages we see how Srila Prabhupada's glories and activities were foretold. Naturally, therefore, his appearance and disappearance were also glorious.Srila Prabhupada appeared on Nandotsava, a day that millions of pious Indians happily celebrate every year. Nandotsava means Nanda Maharaja's huge festival celebrating Krishna's birth. Nanda Maharaja dressed in luxurious garments and distributed profuse charity to everyone in his kingdom. He gave away opulent cloth and ornaments and two miUion richly decorated cows to the brahmanas. He fulfilled everyone's desires.Vraja was alive with vibrations of Vedic hymns, and lavish decorations created a feeling of happiness. Bursting with bliss, the Vrajavasis expressed their joy by throwing butter, yogurt, and ghee all around. One hundred years ago, on the anniversary of that most auspicious spiritual occasion, Srila Prabhupada appeared to fulfill the mission of Lord Krishna. Srila Prabhupada grew up a pure devotee of the Lord and distributed Krishna consiousness worldwide. After fuUfilling all the above-mentioned divine predictions, Prabhupada went to Vrindavan to leave his body. That took place during Kartika, the most auspicious month of Srimati Radharani, on November 14,1977, at 7:20 p.m. At that time the constellations were uniting to form the amrta-yoga, which is the most auspicious time to embark on a jouney. It also indicates the successful completion of any endeavor. Surrounded by loving disciples singing their hearts out in kirtana, Srila Prabhupada chanted Hare Krishna and entered the eternal pastimes of Sri Sri Radha-Govinda.Srila Prabhupada made a perfect appearance, led a perfect life, and had a perfect departure. Srila Prabhupada lives forever in his books and worships Lord Caitanya by teaching everyone to always chant "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare."
