"Talab" means "pond." Usha Talab is the place where Usha bathed.Usha was the daughter of Banasura, the thousand-armed devotee of Lord Shiva. Banasura arrested Lord Krishna's grandson Aniruddha, when he discovered Aniruddha living with his daughter, as described in Srila Prabhupada's Krsna book. Usha married Aniruddha after a fierce battle between Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva. Shiva commanded Banasura's army in the fight, and Banasura's city fell under the attack. The pond is beautifully situated near the Brahmaputra River, next to what is left of her father's palace, which is said to have been built by Vishvakarma. The archeological remains of that building are so extensive that modem engineers say the structure could not be reproduced today.
Usha Talab is full of lotuses. It lies hidden in a forest that would have afforded a woman the privacy to bathe.
