One of the major centers from which this new spiritual awareness is predicted to arise and spread throughout the world is the city of Mayapur, India, located north of Calcutta. This is the birthplace of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and is considered a holy dham, or place where the spiritual energy manifests in this niaterial world. One prediction about the importance and future significance of Mayapur appeared 500 years ago in Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura's book, Navadvipa shataka. He wrote that Lord Caitanya's city is where the living beings eternally shine in their blissful forms, which cannot be understood by those who are blinded y maya, illusion. The eternal, blissful, spiritual nature is manifest in Lord Caitanya's :ity, so everyone should take shelter there. You should reside there if you are set on crossing the ocean of repeated birth and death, or if you relish the sweet nectar of Krishna sankirtana and love of the Supreme. Simply abandon all misconcepions and take shelter in Lord Gauranga's [Caitanya's] city. It was in the nineteenth century when Bhaktivinode Thakura (1838-1914), a great spiriual master in the disciplic line of the Brahma-Madhava-Gaudiya sampradaya, had a vision of a wonderful golden city while he was sitting in his house in Godrumdvipa, across the Jalangi River from Sri Mayapur. He saw a brilliant effulgence in Sri Mayapur that spread out in all directions. He knew that this was tie spiritual city, centered around the birth site of Sri Caitanya, that would oneday be where the knowledge of Krishna-prema, love of God. and the teachings cf devotional service, bhakti-yoga, would spread throughout the world. In his Caitanya Sikshamrita, Bhaktivinode Thakura also predicted that the day would :ome when foreigners would come to Sri Mayapur and dance in ecstasy with their Indian brothers in this holy land They would chant," Jaya Sacinandana! Jaya Sacirandana," which means victory and glories to Sacinandana, who is Sri Caitanya JS the son of Mother Saci.

In anctherbook, Nabadwipa-Dhama Mahatmya, Chapter Five, Bhaktivinode also expliins how Nityananda Prabhu, who was Sri Caitanya's brother and spiritual confidante, revealed the holy place of Navadwip to Jiva Gosvami nearly 500 years ago. When they were visiting the area of Antardwipa, Nityananda Prabhu relrted that the Ganges River would flood the holy place of Mayapur and inundate he town after the Lord (Sri Caitanya) leaves this earthly plane. After remainingunderwater for over 100 years, the Ganges would recede and gradually people ajain would live in Mayapur and build temples, out of which, "One exceedingly wonderful temple will appear from which eternal service to Sri Caitanya .vill be preached everywhere."

Other" spiritual authorities also have described the future significance of Mayapur Vrindavan das Thakur, in the Pramana Khanda of the Navadvipa Mahatmyi, described a wondrous and beautiful temple that would be in Mayapur. NarahariChakravarti also described the great and beautiful temple of Mayapur and the spiritual nature of this sacred place as seen by Srinivasa Acharya in the Bhakti-ranakara. This, therefore, reveals the importance that the city of Mayapur will have But which temple would this be? Who would develop it?
