Mugdha Mukunda

(Love-bewildered Mukunda)

(1)

tamatha manmatha khinnam rati rasa

bhinnam visada sampannam

anucintita haricaritam kalahantaritamuvaca rahah sakhi

After Krsna leaves, Radha becomes Kalahantarita*. De¬prived from Krsna's rati pleasure, She is unable to gorget about His activities, as Cupid tortures Her. Thus Her sakhi offers the following advice:

(2)

harirabhisarati vahati mrdu pavane

kimaparamadhikasukham sakhi bhavane

madhave rta kuru manini managaye sakhi

O Radhe! As the cooling, spring breeze blows, Krsna has come to see You. Could You get more pleasure at home? (Chorus: Hey manini** Radhe! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava)

(3)

tala phaladapi gurumatisarasam

kimu viphalikuruse kuca kalasam

madave na kuru manini manamaye sakhi

Sakhl Rai! Your pitcher-like breasts are more weighty, round and delectable than ripe palm fruits...will You just let them go to waste? (Hey manini Radhe! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava.)

(4)

kati na kathitamidamanupadam dram

ma parihara hurimatisaya ruciram

madhave an kuru manini manamaye sakhl

I have told You time, and time again: don't give up Krsna-sundara. (Hey manini Radhe ! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava.)

(5)

kimimati visidasi rodisi vikala

vihasati yuvatisabha tava sakala

madhave na kuru manini manamaye sakhl

Why are You sadly grieving.. ..or crying? Look, seeing Your plight Your rivals are snickering. (Hey manini Radhe! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava.)

(6)

sajala nalini dala silita sayane

harimavalokaya saphalaya nayanr

madhave na kuru manini manamaye sakhl

O Sakhl! Why not have a look at Krsna paying on the bed of cooling lotus petals; just let Your eyes fulfill their purpose. (Hey manini Radhe! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava.)

(7)

janayasi manasi kimimati guru khedam

smu mama vacanamanihita bhedam

madhave na kuru manini manamaye sakhl

Sakhl, why suffer any longer? Take my advice; then Your unwanted distress will depart. (Hey manini Radhe! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava.)

(8)

harirupayatu vadatu bahu madhuram

kimimati karosi hrdayamaati vidhuram

madhave na kuru manini manamaye sakhl

Just let Krsna come.. .and let Him speak His sweet entreat¬ies. Why are You simply torturing Your mind? (Hey manini Radhe! Please discard Your mana towards Madhava.)

(9)

srijayadeva bhanitamati lalitam

sukhayatu rasikajanam hari caritam

Let Sri Jayadeva's madura descriptions of Krsna's activi¬ties bring pleasure to rasika bhaktas.

(10)

snigdhe yatpurusasi yat pranamati stabdhasi yadragini

dvesasthasi yadunmudhe vimukhatam yatasi tasmin priye

tadyuktam viparitakarini tava srikhandacarcca visam

sitam sustapano himam hutavahah kridamudo yatanah

Hey Manini! (Love jealous one) You were cruel to Your affectionate Beloved who fell at Your feet—showed disinterest to dispel His great interest—and covered Your face to prevent His seeing it. This reverse behavior of Yours will only make the cooling candana seem poisonous, the soothing moonrays seem fiery, and the pleasure of lovemaking seem painful.

(11)

sandrananda purandaradi divisadvrnadair mandadarat

anamrair mukutendra nilamanibhih sandarstendi indaram

svacchandam makaranda sundara galanmandakini maduram

srigovinda padaravindamsubhaskandaya vandanahe

When Govinda killed Bali, the devatas became over¬whelmed in ecstasy! As they feelingly bowed to Him the blue sapphires adorning their crowns looked like a swam of bees. Then the mandakini Ganga, filled with madara and flower pollen, began worshipping His lotus feet. Let us respectfully bow unto Govinda's lotus feet which remove all inauspicious-ness.

Thus ends Gita Govinda's Ninth Chapter entitled Mugdha Mukunda.
